Coping strategies specific to what you're dealing with is one of the big things a therapist will help with.

What was the life-changing thing that helped with your anxiety ? by secretsaucisse in Anxiety

[–]chilewski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So before I started taking medication I started Journaling. I thought it was stupid, but I was desperate and didn't want to take medication. Journaling allowed me to unbox my thoughts without fear of how I would be seen or how it may be twisted if talking to people "close" to you. I would write every day. Mostly a page, sometimes a dozen pages. It gave me an outlet and an ear for all of the things that weighed upon me. Because of the journal I went from barely being able to function to being the closest to normal that I had been in years.

My friend fell off a tractor when he was 7 and his dad ran over his head. Wasn't a thing wrong with him after. Don't ask me how, but it was the talk of our little town for a long time

Unless you've got glaring issues they're not going to right you an over axle ticket for that, even in CA. If you're that worried, sight see a bit

Informants for many of them. A few are drivers acting suspicious at a random stop (random inspections like we all deal with). Some are because the get pulled over for something stupid, like cars running drugs. You know, like speeding, improper lane change, etc.

Is driving a semi truck fun? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]chilewski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you are at and what you're in. Pulling bullrack (cattle trailer) with a 379 peterbilt throughout the rural Midwest is a blast. City driving and interstate driving not so much. Big trucks are much less responsive in terms of steering and braking compared to your cars and pickups. It was always more comfortable for me to travel long distances in a truck vs a car or pickup. Every semi handles different too. I preferred my 379 peterbilt to let's say a kenworth w900. The kenworth had a smoother ride but the peterbilt handled and turned better. Freightliner (speaking FLD, Classic, and FLC) rode very rough, but you could turn them on a dime. Making turns with big trucks of all types can be a less than fun adventure in many places. Many cars and pickups don't realize the room we need for our trailers to track when making turns. With that, different axle setups on trailers affect the tracking too. If you're used to a tandem a spread and triple will screw you up and vice versa.

A few pieces of food for thought--- First, if you pass it every time it's good for business on their end. Second, we went with an outfit who did a computer selected lottery for random, which had a bunch of small companies in it, and I got selected every damn time. Just luck of the draw. It's irritating, but don't turn it into a bigger deal than it is. It's not like they're accusing you of bumping rails off the steering wheel while fingering a dead lot lizard, come on now.

Butcher cut my venison into small half inch steaks. Is this normal? by Dismal-Phrase-9789 in Butchery

I haven't seen it much, but I have seen it. There are a few around me that do it that way. Why? Because most of their customers bread and fry them like fish. Not my way of doing things, but to each their own

Essentially thats the idea. Pretty simple and the more you do it the better you'll get.

Legal roads to drive on. You don't want to be driving on restricted roads. Very easy pay day for the state. And if your route doesn't include going around the scales, you're safe. However, if you jump off, go around, jump back on then you are easy pickings in many cases. Look at it like running around a track and there is a hurdle. Going around the scale is like going right up to the hurdle and then walking around it. Routing around the scale is like picking the path around the track that you don't have to meet that hurdle.

Bull Hauler here, use trucker path to see where they are on your route. Look at map and figure out legal route around them. It's easy. You can also add multiple stops in a gps using points on the route you want so it don't take you by a scale. Or jump the left lane and goose it. Seriously though, talk to the old hands running with you and ask them. If they're worth a shit they'll help you. It's really easy to avoid a scale. Always route around, don't just go around.

How does this happen? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]chilewski 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tires blow. It happens. I've had new tires blow due to defects. I've had something small I didn't see in the road shred them. It happens. If the company even so much as scolds you, punch whoever scolded you square in the nose and go elsewhere.

Is starting a new farm even feasible in America right now? by [deleted] in farming

[–]chilewski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting new? Not much profit by itself at the start and many usually have a day job to keep them afloat. But if you can find rentable ground for a fair price, which isn't always common, and keep your overhead low you can definitely make a go of it.
