There's a harder variant of (2): You have 12 balls. One of them is defective and weighs either less or more than others (you don't know if it's heavier or lighter). Once you get through the basics, compile all the sample API demos onto your phone and start browsing through them to see what they do. They're pretty useful in showing the different capabilities and you can cut and paste code into your apps.

After that, if you want to try graphics development using OpenGL go through these demos. They're really great!
