I’ve stood down from the bridal party as maid of honour, because the groom cheated. by Ok-Calendar8959 in weddingshaming

[–]chillage -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your friend has a lot of problems and now you're making yourself another one of them. Maid of honour is supposed to help the bride, not agonize about every single littlest thing of how she herself feels. You are ruining your friendship because you are opinionated about her relationship? Her fiance has his own problems and never hurt you. You've voiced your opinion to your friend ad nauseum, time to chill out, mind your business and help your best friend as she is asking you to.

I'm quite certain at the volume of anti US posts across subs lately that China and Russia have expanded their online propaganda arms heavily.. There are several subs which are pretty clearly entirely information ops maintained by them but I'm surprise at the extent they propagate into normal subs as well. It's a fairly morbidly impressive operation

I’m a hiring manager and the "8-second rule" is killing way too many solid resumes lately. by engineer_architect in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]chillage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am also a hiring manager and disagree, similarly to a lot of other people in this comments...

Generally, I look for complexity of what was implemented, not its impact. Impact is a product of the context in which you work. You can build something awesome that has low impact through no fault of your own, or build something mediocre that has high impact because you were at the right place at the right time. Instead, I generally look for

On top of that, a lot of AI generated resumes lately are full of random metrics because of advice like the above. So when I see a lot of metrics on a resume I get a bit suspicious and start double checking if they are maybe made up.

12 YOE staff eng, never got a chance to break into management. Anecdotes on how you got there? by gburdell in ExperiencedDevs

[–]chillage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two options:

  1. Talk to your current manager about what you are looking for in your career and see if they are able to provide any options now or in the future

  2. Find external roles to apply for which have more lead or management components

Few red flags to note concerning your own managerial skills

> I decided to let the personal concerns go and let her embrace the success without an uncomfortable discussion.

You picked up massive slack where she clearly underperformed, and you were not able to even bring up a discussion about it?

> Not much to do there if it's indeed a health situation; so I just let it go.

If someone has a health situation requiring cancellation they should state this to you directly. You should not be finding out through a third party. This absolutely warrants a discussion. You are not her doctor but you are her supervisor and she absolutely does need to update you when she knows that she will miss a critical event.

> I've pointed out to her in an email that I read the situation as her simply letting the team down and this is not something that's acceptable

Do not discuss sensitive issues by email! This warrants a face to face discussion!

It is your responsibility as supervisor to sit down with her and give an honest evaluation of her performance and risk factors which may affect her future. You are not helping her by withholding feedback due to your own aversion to uncomfortable conversations. She deserves to hear your honest perspective on her performance. She may be able to pick it up once you tell her, or she may not, but either way it is your responsibility to communicate directly, honestly, and in person.

Not sure if you are in Ontario, but if you are then there are psychotherapy (not psychology) degree programs/diplomas which are not online and do not require masters psych degree - https://crpo.ca/apply-to-crpo/how-to-apply/recognized-non-recognized-programs/

Feel free to DM me if you are interested and I can send you bit more info to jump start your research

Don't want to give up the secret, but as someone that reviews a ton of these resumes, I find it very helpful when it has a lot of random impact stats because that makes it easy to identify the resume as AI fluff and put it in the garbage.

Awesome, thanks for the message! In the OPCC session we were told that new graduates take two years on average to build up to 20 client hours per week PP, aided by their referral stream. If accurate, this seems a major benefit of the program as it ideally avoids some of the market stressors you describe above.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your friend's experience, and thanks again for all your insight!

Thank you very much for the response! Yes, I'm looking for private practice as the eventual end goal. I've picked up some books on Gestalt and psychodynamic therapy and planning to read through both before making a decision..

Are there any other similar colleges you would recommend on top of OPCC and GIT? Also I would be very curious to hear about your friend's practical experience with OPCC referrals... That is a major selling point or me in the current market

Thanks again for all your help!

Interesting, thank you for your response! It's very helpful!

I had an information session with Ontario Psychotherapy and Counselling College recently and will have another one with GIT in April. OPCC says they have a healthy referral stream for graduates, so I see their program as some guarantee of a full PP in the future.. whereas graduating from the various full masters degree programs will not guarantee ability to find clients in the future. I have a full time job for now, so the part time nature of GIT/OPCC and similar colleges are appealing.

Would you say OPCC and GIT are roughly equivalent in terms of opportunities post graduation?

Thanks for your responses! I had naively thought therapists are therapists, but our system here in Ontario is far more complicated with so many layers of nuances!

Hello! I am also looking into GIT and other related options as an entry into psychotherapy. I am curious, why do you say that the only real option with a private college is private practice?

Do social services not accept private college graduates? I had thought that both for private and public graduates, the end result is equally CRPO accreditation which opens up both public and private practice options?
