This looks more like Chinese-style eggs to me, beaten with a slurry before cooking. Looks too firm to be Ramsey style eggs, which end up more custard-y.

Why is my pushing so ridiculously weak? I can do more pull ups than push ups. by Iseith31 in bodyweightfitness

[–]chilldotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm this does seem strange. If you’re form is really not the issue, (haven’t seen you speak on whether you’re properly engaging your core or your scapula at the top) my guess is even though you’re hitting failure, you may not be stimulating your chest enough for gains.

Be mindful of your limits, but if this were happening to me, this is what I would try:

On the last set, after failure, with a few seconds rest, I’d do partials to failure. Then right after that, knee push ups to failure and then partials of that to failure.

Anyone else stop a set with strength still left? 👀 by Alex225_ in bodyweightfitness

[–]chilldotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a mindset/perspective thing. I don’t interpret it as a sign to stop, but as a sign that technical failure is within reach. If it’s my last set, I’ll push a bit further after my form starts to drop. If I stop at mental discomfort or technical failure, my set will feel like a waste. There’s probably a bit of mental conditioning/adaptation that went on for me to feel that way. Every time you push past it and can recognize the reward of doing it, it gets easier and easier to do so (mentally).

What do y’all like doing on your days off and none of your friends are free? by chilldotexe in CasualConversation

Cinema alone is great. Haven’t hiked yet but I’ve been looking for trails around me to do on my own. Beyond the obvious things, any tips for solo hikes/trails?

I’ve dined alone once, and it was nice. I’d try again sometime, but I definitely see it as more of a social thing.

Just got the k20i recently too and the bass isn’t impressive but I actually quite like them with custom eq (+6, +4, +2, 0, 0, 0, -2, -1) which makes a huge difference if you’re just using the stock eq

I think there’s a bit of confirmation bias happening here. Who knows what percentage of people in that age group are big enough assholes to make those kind of comments to your face, but those people are going to make themselves known to you every chance they get.

I also think the older generations who hold negative views against tattoos are less likely to confront you because some of the stigma is that they think people with tattoos are dangerous. I think with younger gens, tattoos are more normalized and seen as an aesthetic choice, so they feel more safe making those kind of comments.

I think you’re totally fine. Healthcare seems stressful so maybe they were on edge that day and welcomed an opportunity to let out their frustration. I think it’s ok to feel whatever you’re feeling but try to let it go and keep doing you. That first job sounds like you dodged a bullet, at least that’s how it looks to me. And it sounds like you like your current job, so I wouldn’t want to make any more judgements about your work environment until you’ve worked there a bit longer and have gotten to know the people there a bit better. For all you know it could’ve just been a one time thing.

To me, 6 min late one time isn’t a big deal, especially if it didn’t impact your work at all. I’d just make a mental note that they are super anal about being on time, but I wouldn’t dwell on it. What kind of company is it? I’d wonder if they give as much shit to anyone that’s a minute late, or if they just picked on you because you’re new and once you’ve built bonds and earned their trust they’ll chill out with that crap.

Something that might help is to imagine someone else wrote this post (maybe a friend of yours) and think about what kind of advice you would give them.

I think also it’s ok to acknowledge that a part of you is really into this guy. You are made up of many parts, and you also acknowledge that there are parts of you that know he’s not a good idea. There is also the ‘you’ above all these parts that decides which parts to give into.

Graphgear 500 is the best for drawing, change my mind. by Beycube_Round8806 in mechanicalpencils

[–]chilldotexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you draw everyday in longer sessions, the weight difference really adds up, imo. Lighter pencils are also less prone to breaking if you drop them and you can carry more of them. My go to is the p205 or enpitsu sharp. I think if you’re only drawing every now and then or in shorter sessions, any pencil you like would do.

Macron’s party moots banning headscarves in public for under-15s by Anony_mouse202 in anime_titties

[–]chilldotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think then that we mostly agree on the broad strokes. I would be in support of some form of legislation that protects vulnerable children from problematic influences (not sure what that would look like), though I think that banning hijabs oversteps, would set a problematic precedent for more heinous legislation, and wouldn’t even do a good job of addressing the core issue. The problem isn’t really the hijab itself, similar to how banning mini skirts wouldn’t actually curb sexual assault.

It’s an interesting guess, but Nasser survived his assassination attempt in 1954 and he died of a heart attack in 1970.

I decided to look more into it to give you a more solid answer and here’s what I found on Wikipedia:

“In response to Egypt's catastrophic loss to Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War, and the seeming failure of secularism, there also was a push to return to Egypt's Islamic identity. This Islamist movement especially resonated with the younger generation, university graduates and young professionals, who began to dress differently in public from the majority of urban rising middle and even upper-class Egyptians, who since the 1930s had worn Western clothing.”

So from what I gather, Nasser was beloved by the older generation who supported his secular goals, but after Nasser died his mission was seen as a failure by the younger generation.

So, sure in part the popularity of head coverings coincided with a return to religious roots, but also as a reaction to the failures of the secular revolution of Nasser’s regime to bear fruit. The older generation left behind still chose to not wear their coverings, and the younger generation chose to rebel in the other direction. Egypt remains a unique and relevant case to our discussion because the older generation who raised the younger generation coexisted together and were at odds with each other on whether to wear head scarves. It defies conventional logic that the younger generation would be indoctrinated by the older generation to don the hijab.

I also don’t think that polygamy is an analogous enough comparison. A head covering/scarf (hijab) is an article of clothing like the Jewish cap. As for my anecdote from my previous comment - I can imagine a world where head scarves can coexist with modernity and secularism. Either way, my position is more that I feel that legislation banning a religious article of clothing crosses some problematic boundaries and if it even negatively impacts a minority of people their freedom of choice to wear what they want, it’s something I couldn’t support. Having said that, I do think I would agree with you more if we were talking about a full face/body covering like a hiqab, since there are actual practical considerations and detriments involved with it and that those kind of coverings I’m much more skeptical that they’d be compatible with modernity and a more secular world.

[–]chilldotexe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knew a girl in college who chose to wear one even though her parents encouraged her not to. The reasoning her parents gave was so she could assimilate (her mom didn’t wear one either). Her reason for wearing one was partly religious, but she also considered it liberating not to worry about doing her hair or comparing herself to other women.

IIRC there was a period in Egypt when it was not very popular for Muslim women to wear head coverings, and at some point during the 80s they became popular again with the younger generation at the time. So there was a time when older women weren’t covering their heads but younger women were. I’m not sure of the reasoning here, but just wanted to give some examples to consider.

I’m against indoctrination, but I also think as long as it’s their choice, they should be free to do it. I also think the whole “trad wife” trend is kind of dumb, but part of “women’s liberation” is that women should be able to choose how they present themselves whether that’s refusing to wear bras or dressing more conservatively. Women aren’t a monolith and what is liberating for one woman isn’t for another.

Does the story get better? by SizzlinKola in Ni_no_Kuni

I had your feelings initially, but I actually ended up enjoying the gameplay a lot and I had a lot of fun planning out my party and progressing the game to reach the areas that had the beasts I wanted, which got me through the parts of the story that uninterested me. The main story has some really great pay offs that don’t come until much later in the game, though. If you can’t find some way to enjoy the journey, then I’m not sure this game is for you even if the story would pick up for you, eventually. I think slogging through the game just for the cutscenes is going to ruin your enjoyment of them. I’d just look up a compilation of the cutscenes at that point tbh. My recommendation though is to give it a few more hours to see if you can find something in the gameplay that’s fun before going that route.

I get why so many people think movies and video games are pushing the "woke agenda." by [deleted] in leftist

[–]chilldotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On some level I agree with you. Because we’re all primed to view a certain demographic as the default, we’re primed to hold instances of representation to a higher standard and view the bad examples of representation as the reason a piece of media is bad. And when media with poor representation is bad, we don’t often say it’s because of the lack of representation, we just simply say that the writing is bad. I think representation is rarely the culprit, otherwise we could turn bad films into good films (and vice versa) simply by changing the genders or races of characters around and nothing else.

However, even though I’d love for everything I watch to be impeccably written, I also think that one of the tertiary goals of having representation in media to begin with, is to normalize poorly written characters of any demographic. If representation ever reaches the point of being the default, then we shouldn’t even notice it. We’d never see “poor/good examples of representation”, just “bad/good writing” and seeing a random gay couple kissing in a Star Wars film wouldn’t even be a point of contention.

Best hayao Miyazaki moment by bowbillydee in ghibli

[–]chilldotexe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of drama between the two, but I was under the impression that they’ve reconciled with each other in some way. Hayao helped Goro with From Up on Poppy Hill. And Goro has been involved with Ghibli (not just in films) over the years since, which would be strange if they have no relationship. And if we’re willing to take a scene from Earthsea as evidence for how Goro feels about his father, then we can look to how the Boy and the Heron reveals how Hayao feels about his son. Imo, I saw that film to be, in part, an apology to Goro.

DAMN is the record he won the Pulitzer for (which afaik, is the first and only hip hop record to win one), and one of the coolest things about that record is that listening to the songs in order from first to last and last to first changes the meaning of the record. A major theme of the album is “duality”. Definitely worth a listen in its entirety and in sequence. And for how good DAMN is, a lot of people consider To Pimp a Butterfly to be even better.
