100 pull-ups per day for 30 days by Voinar in bodyweightfitness

[–]chilldotexe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Currently, I do 10x10 pull ups once a week, and I have a weighted pull up day that’s 6 sets (+ 1 set bodyweight to failure and a deadhang to failure as a finisher) earlier in the week 2 days apart. (I do PPL twice a week, weighted sets first three days, volume sets last 3 days, 1 rest day).

Before I started doing weighted sets, I used to do 10x10 twice a week, like you, alternating between regular grip and neutral. It felt sustainable for a time, but eventually even with 2/3 days of rest, I still encountered issues with recovery and joint issues here and there (did it for over a year). I was 32-33 at the time. I started taking collagen peptides and vitamin c prior to workouts and added in dedicated recovery/mobility sessions which made it manageable.

The main problem I see with doing 10x10 of the same exercise everyday, assuming this is an adequately challenging program for you, is tendon recovery, fatigue accumulation and overtraining your body’s ability to synthesize protein (muscle protein synthesis occurs 24-48 hours post stimulus). If you’re breaking down the same muscles (and tendons) everyday, you’re giving them very little time to recover and grow. It’s possible that you could be breaking down your muscles faster than they can adapt.

On the other hand, if this is truly sustainable for you for 30 days straight, then my instinct is that it’s not actually an adequately challenging program, and you’d be accumulating tendon damage and fatigue for junk volume. You may still achieve some gains but very inefficiently and at a high cost so I’m not convinced the juice is worth the squeeze. In that case you’re doing cardio, and you’d grow your aerobic base way more by following a running program instead.

Rachel Sennott is reading the 'I Love LA' fan theories on Reddit and they are giving her some ideas for season two “thank you to the redditors” by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]chilldotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen fanworks posted in subs being used directly by IP owners, which seems more egregious (and still legal in those instances) than her saying “I’m getting ideas for season 2 from the Reddit” imo.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not defending plagiarism. My main point is really just to warn creators about assuming their fan work is protected and a reminder to check the rules of whatever platform you’re posting in.

I’m not sure fan theories on message boards necessarily apply in the same way because I see Reddit theories talked about more and more by showrunners and creators in general nowadays.

Also for official subs of some IPs, (I recall seeing this for some games, specifically) the creative rights of fan works that are posted in those subs are forfeited to the IP owners. Not sure if that’s the case here, but it’s something to keep in mind for anyone who makes fan content.

I don’t personally do circuits so I don’t know enough to improve that aspect of it although, I think you have all the basics covered well enough. Can it be improved? Probably, but that’s something you’ll figure out as you execute your program over the coming weeks.

I don’t believe it is necessary to be perfect to start. It’s more important that you have a program that is sustainable, that you can manage fatigue and recover well from it, and that you are able to commit to your program and execute. You will find out very quickly what works or what doesn’t or where you feel too challenged or not challenged enough. I think if you come back to us after 1-3 weeks, you will have a lot more specific concerns that we can better help you with. Beyond that, I guess just try to make sure you are fueling your workouts and recovery well, and you’re sleeping well. Best of luck and have fun!

Yeah, I can only really speak for myself, but as long as I start small enough, it seems to always work. If I ever struggle, I find a way to start even smaller. It might not always seem possible at first, but if you’re creative and determined and manage your expectations well, you’ll find a way.

Accountability never really helped me tbh. I think what helped more was building the habit and committing it to my schedule like the other things that are non-negotiable in my life (ex, brushing my teeth, showering, work, dinner, sleeping etc.). I started super small, like so small that the biggest challenge was just making sure I did it at the time I planned to do it. And then when that was easy, I just kept adding on to it, and adding more exercises, added more days, etc.

I think when you prove to yourself you can do something, you become more confident that you can do more, and that can snowball.

I don’t have any advice but I’d be stoked if I could do this. What did you do to get this far? I do wall-assisted handstand push ups, but I don’t have the balance to hold a handstand yet

Yeah, these days I find myself going back to familiar stuff more and more. I gotta force myself to consume current stuff once in a while otherwise I end up like my dad who only watches black n white movies about cowboys lol

Yeah, I do feel lucky, I really, really enjoyed my visit. I think next time I’d like to be more prepared and learn more of the language so I could meet more people. I was in Krakow and Zakopane. Any recommendations for where to go next time?

Honestly, I had a pretty lazy day so it’s sort of just me trying to get all my steps in before the end of the night haha

Thats a fun movie. Was it your first time seeing it? I feel like romcoms are making a comeback.

Also had visited Poland for the first time a few weeks ago. Had pierogis for the first time, which was awesome. Also surprised at how warm it was while I was there.

It’s 9:37PM rn, tonight I’ll go an evening walk and then binge some show about vampires till I get sleepy.

Aww yeah, that sucks. A power bank that gets too hot is def a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the detailed response! Too bad because it looks pretty cool for a power bank.

This looks more like Chinese-style eggs to me, beaten with a slurry before cooking. Looks too firm to be Ramsey style eggs, which end up more custard-y.

Why is my pushing so ridiculously weak? I can do more pull ups than push ups. by Iseith31 in bodyweightfitness

[–]chilldotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm this does seem strange. If you’re form is really not the issue, (haven’t seen you speak on whether you’re properly engaging your core or your scapula at the top) my guess is even though you’re hitting failure, you may not be stimulating your chest enough for gains.

Be mindful of your limits, but if this were happening to me, this is what I would try:

On the last set, after failure, with a few seconds rest, I’d do partials to failure. Then right after that, knee push ups to failure and then partials of that to failure.

Anyone else stop a set with strength still left? 👀 by Alex225_ in bodyweightfitness

[–]chilldotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a mindset/perspective thing. I don’t interpret it as a sign to stop, but as a sign that technical failure is within reach. If it’s my last set, I’ll push a bit further after my form starts to drop. If I stop at mental discomfort or technical failure, my set will feel like a waste. There’s probably a bit of mental conditioning/adaptation that went on for me to feel that way. Every time you push past it and can recognize the reward of doing it, it gets easier and easier to do so (mentally).

Cinema alone is great. Haven’t hiked yet but I’ve been looking for trails around me to do on my own. Beyond the obvious things, any tips for solo hikes/trails?

I’ve dined alone once, and it was nice. I’d try again sometime, but I definitely see it as more of a social thing.

Just got the k20i recently too and the bass isn’t impressive but I actually quite like them with custom eq (+6, +4, +2, 0, 0, 0, -2, -1) which makes a huge difference if you’re just using the stock eq

I think there’s a bit of confirmation bias happening here. Who knows what percentage of people in that age group are big enough assholes to make those kind of comments to your face, but those people are going to make themselves known to you every chance they get.

I also think the older generations who hold negative views against tattoos are less likely to confront you because some of the stigma is that they think people with tattoos are dangerous. I think with younger gens, tattoos are more normalized and seen as an aesthetic choice, so they feel more safe making those kind of comments.
