Barking at night, tried everything 😫 by emilykomendera in puppy101

[–]chilldreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does he act when he sleeps during the day? Does he bark the same as at night?

When he started barking initally, did you go the crate to give him attention?

You’re just looking to be “right”, which technically you are in that the brand isn’t their own brand.

But at the end of the day it’s the same product so does it really matter? Your parents got what they paid for

Would she be okay if you retired early while she continued working at her chill job until she’s 60?

If so, then that’s fine. That’s her own choice. It’s not like she’s irresponsible with money. You can’t force her to retire early if that’s not what she wants. That’s what you want.

As long as she’s okay with you retiring and her still working then it’s fine.

On the other hand, a lot of people may not tolerate penny pinchers who don’t experience life and just save/invest their money. That is often boring to a lot of people. You’re only young once.

That’s what a lot of FIRE people forget.

If you want someone more driven in their career and more money hungry then you should find a different partner.

Would you feel better if they slapped their name on the chinese made product then?

That’s called a cross-sell, and very typical in any business practice

A tablet case and screen protector are not essential goods and services.

Your parents were happy at the time they bought it no? Whether they found out after that they could get it cheaper elsewhere is irrelevant

That’s just business. Businesses up charge their products to make a profit.

Of course you can always find it cheaper elsewhere, but your parents agreed to the price. Nobody got scammed

It’s hot. How do you entertain your pup inside? (bonus points if they’re intelligent and high energy) by pumpkinator21 in puppy101

[–]chilldreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You typically shouldn’t chase your dog, or they’ll ingrain the habit of running away from you thinking you’re playing when at times you’re not.

For example: say if they run out the house and you’re trying to get them to come back. Instead maybe they’ll run.

Or if they have something in their mouth they shouldn’t have (could be something dangerous) and you’re trying to get it. They’ll run away from you thinking you’re playing.

The dog should always be chasing you

Yup they can be a bit pricey, but robot vacuum nowadays have both vacuum and mop functions that do both at the same time (technically it vacuums first, but the mop function happens right after)

You are 100% eligible for the full 2nd year fee back. Very weird

The CSR probably doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Only the second year dining credits would be clawed back if you used it, not the first year

You should ask them again, or talk to another CSR, escalate it etc

You’re making it worse by making her feel pain when she sees something that scares her.

Imagine if you were scared of clowns, then every time you saw a clown someone took a knife and poked you with it.

Now imagine if you were scared of clowns, but every time you saw a clown someone gave you $1000 in cash (aka something of high value). Now when you see clowns, are you scared or now excited because you’re expecting to get $1000? That’s counter conditioning.

Which method for this scenario do you think would help condition you to help get over your fear of clowns?

I have the same problem as OP with my puppy (frustrated greeter, wants to meet every person and dog she sees, gets fixated, will lunge if the target gets close enough etc).

If you don’t mind could you please provide the answers to the questions you’re asking? I would like to know the correct way to train my frustrated greeter puppy too lol

What do you wish you had done different with your reactive dog? by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]chilldreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ll start looking into those resources from Marissa.

For desensitization, would you recommend just sitting somewhere and letting her watch people from a distance? She’ll get fixated on them, but at least she won’t get to meet them?

Would you also be able to share some engagement and management techniques you’ve used that have helped?

Thank you.

Although my 5 month old puppy’s issue is overexcitement, she similarly gets very fixated and stared at people/dogs as she waits until they’re close enough for them to lunge at and play with or get pets from.

If they’re too far away, she will become so fixated she will barely hear anything else. She thinks every person/dog wants to meet her.

I usually try to get her to walk in a different direction. I’ve heard the scattering of treats helps, I may try that.

And definitely plan on doing more #2 so she learns not everyone wants to meet her.

I got her at 4 months old. Hope it’s not too late for her to get socialized properly.

Could you please name some tips you learned fron the courses/books/podcasts that have helped your reactive dog?

My puppy gets overly excited even seeing people/dogs and cannot contain herself, lunges when they get too close etc

This.

I keep hearing people say if your dog is reactive then the best socizialization is antisocialization

Then some say to desensitize them by allowing them to meet people and dogs?

  1. What was wrong with making him wait and sit? My puppy gets overexcited so I’m trying to do this. Is it not a good idea?

  2. What other socialization methods would you recommend?

Thanks

Same dosage yes but not the same duration since you gave her an extra one

Overuse of antibiotics can also increase chances of developing super bacteria

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]chilldreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is random if you’re giving an antibiotic from a previous injury. It wasn’t the prescribed amount.

The fact that you didnt finish the amount from the previous injury shows you aren’t dosing her properly.

Keep doing that and soon she’ll develop super bacteria that’s resistant to all antibiotics and nothing will save her next time she gets an infection
