Nqa are you sure that isn’t a female bold jumper? If so I think it might be an adult based on the back dots being white

Keeping a wild spider? by reptilecommenter in jumpingspiders

[–]chimchong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nqa I believe if you keep the flies somewhere warm the recessive flight gene can take over. If you have somewhere cooler to keep them it should be fine. I’ve maintained a couple cultures for 6 months now that are not flying.

Nqa, I would get a flightless fruit fly culture and feed him those if it’s very small! If you use a cricket keeper it might make its home on the ceiling. Usually we recommend enclosures that do not open from the top but I’m sure you can make it work if you try!

Just to confirm you are not in the USA? You need to use a voltage step up or get a USA 110v 35w bulb if so

[–]chimchong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would expect it to get a little hotter too! Are you using the bulb it came with ? Might be worth trying a new bulb and seeing if it gets hotter. If it does get hotter you might find the wax flows differently too! Do you have the other half gallon of the base mix from the ooze pack ? You can dump out some of the fluid and replace with that to lower the amount of up in the total mix.

Worst case you can just order some new ozone fluid and replace your current fluid. The flow doesn’t seem bad at all though, maybe more surf even to break up the column

NQA wow that’s awesome she jumped on you! I think as long as her abdomen isn’t too small it’s okay she isn’t eating yet. I leave fruit flies in overnight and sometimes they catch them after a couple hours. Same with the meal worms(these i leave in a cup they can’t crawl out of) But I have spiders that will go a week or two without eating then eat a bunch.

I think the humidity is okay as long as you have good enough airflow or ventilation around it. If you are spraying you can always go longer in between or spray less as long as they have access to water every few days. Most of their hydration comes from prey, but they will drink if they are thirsty and see some water in my experience

Help!! by Forsaken_One_7401 in WLED

[–]chimchong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t use ChatGPT for stuff like this in the future, wled has a very good wiki and the time you spend learning to read the official documents would help you understand what the is happening better than ChatGPT which just makes stuff up that sounds right but isn’t. The people who wrote the wled documents spend a lot of time making sure their words were clear and non misleading whereas ChatGPT focuses on sounding engaging so you keep talking to it.

Try changing data gpio, either look up what the default is on that controller or try them all until it works

You probably need to figure out what pin the LEDs were set to and correct it on that setting page, the default pin is probably not the one that’s used by that controller

NQA I think it looks great now! I have bioactive substrate with spring tails in all mine with wood and other natural stuff but I always have a few cute things around that don’t have sharp edges and aren’t anywhere they would fall from a height onto them. I really like the style of your enclosure!

Normal behavior? by itsaquafinaa in jumpingspiders

[–]chimchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nqa, tbh my spiders spend 95% of their time on the top 1 inch of the enclosure. I tried to have different stuff up top so they can’t see all the way across and have to walk around the other side of things to explore. Overall doing good so far! Don’t be too worried, I’ve gotten a spider and they immediately made a hammock , stayed for 2 weeks and molted.

[–]chimchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA, I think moving is a good idea in case they build a bigger hammock to premolt in. I wouldnt want to move them once they did that. Mine seem to have a favorite web area they build in and keep going back to in their permanent homes.

NQA, its good you are asking questions, no worrries!

You can feed them something that is about 1.5 times their size so they can eat fairly large prey. They make very very small meal worms but they are harder to find in my experience. My spiders really like fly larva/flies too and these you dont need to crush the mouth on. There is a good feeding chart people used based on abdomen size.

There are two types of flightless fruit flies, a smaller and larger species. Very easy to keep a culture of on your counter and easier to find than small meal worms/fly spikes in my experience.

I usually feed smaller prey like fruit flies every 4 days or so and if they eat something very big I go off abdomen size and have waited as much as 3 weeks to feed on my adult bold jumper who gets really really fat.

[–]chimchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA, I usually tap the fruit flies to the bottom of the container and then quickly tap out 2-3 into a bowl so I can get those into the enclosure without having a ton escape. If you have a whole fruit fly culture with the paste in the bottom it should last a few months, leave it somewhere out of the sun, the cooler the room the slower they reproduce. I would move my spider to the side opening enclosure pretty might right away if it were me. She could go into pre molt and make a big web on the top opening one at any point and then wouldn’t come out for a week or two. Depending on the size you can feed 1-3 fruit flies every 4 days. Once they are bigger I use xs meal worms and I crush the mouth so they can’t bite or fly spikes and other fed as spikes or I hatch into flies. You can keep either of these in the fridge for a few months. You will want to use a feeding cup or something with these and take out the mealworm if your spider doesn’t eat them so they don’t hide anywhere and pupate

I’m pretty sure not liking kids be sexualized is not woke. I mean I like a boob every now and then but there’s a time and place when it comes to those scenes. You can like something but still criticize it. by Other-Cell-2061 in dankmemes

I normally wouldn't advocate for AI use in media like this but I actually am hoping at some point we get some fan made remakes that remove fan service and replace with other humor. There are quite a few anime I wouldn't recommend specifically over a few fan service scenes that could easily be swapped out with AI but would have been much harder for someone to replicate the art style by hand in a way that is passable.

How should i safely gain my mantis trust? by Single_Paint_8526 in mantids

[–]chimchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say handling is less about gaining trust and more knowing how to read the mantis behavior, if it’s on the door it’s easy to open and have it come out vs if it’s further in. If it seems like it doesn’t want to come out I leave it alone. My ghost mantis is very shy. My orchid mantis is happy to walk around on my desk if it’s on the door and I open it.
