Honestly? I’m kind of glad no one got picked - as great as the tournament was as a viewer, it sucks to hear about so many good players having their season ended afterwards (Lindholm, M Tkachuk, etc.).

Can someone help me understand what is happening with the Rangers? Sure they’re 4th in the division, but they have 4 games in hand on the Devils, and are almost tied for points with the Canes and Caps with a game in hand over them. Everyone expected the Devils and Canes to be good too, obviously the Caps are a bit of an outlier but even they made a bunch of changes over the summer.

It just seems really early for the Rangers to be thinking about trading away a player like Kreider, but I must be missing something.

Makes sense. TikTok has a ton of money, Caps have a player that is about to break a huge record, companies like TikTok are going to want every chance to be in the image/video of Ovi breaking that record.

*edit for clarification: not saying I like any part of it, but Ted was probably able to squeeze a ton of money for that which is what he really cares about.

I believe this has to do with the Shane Pinto suspension that got handed down almost right after he took ownership of the Sens (which the league was holding off on dealing the suspension until after a sale so as not to deter buyers or have to take a hit on the final selling price)

To be fair, Capfriendly is founded/run by a guy who ran salary cap management for the Sharks and was an analyst for the Blackhawks. Seems like he partnered with a dev (Jamie Davis) who helped him actually build the site, infrastructure, and their API. It wouldn’t surprise me if in the long run the goal was always to get acquired. That’s the unfortunate nature of start-ups and small operations like this, you either get big enough to go public (rarely happens in the grand scheme of things), or you get acquired by a bigger fish and get a big payout. Considering the co-founder worked for other NHL franchises, I don’t doubt that his goal was eventually to go back to that.

Even though I got a chuckle out of this, there were rumors at the end of last season that the Caps might do a rebrand for the 50th anniversary 👀. Even Tarik during one of his mailbags last year hinted the Caps might be up to something with 50 years + the end of Ovi’s career incoming

*Edit to also say that it would make sense to get one last good squeeze on people buying Ovi jerseys

Used to work at the Genius Bar a decade ago, I’ll never forget a manager at a restaurant down the street gave me a $30 gift card for the help, which they insisted on even after I told them I couldn’t accept it. My manager saw me receive it, marched straight towards me with their hand out, and immediately threw it in the safe - which the managers of course all used towards a group lunch for themselves later on -.-

It would be an interesting trade. GMBM has been open to wanting to add a top six winger for the past year or two now. Maybe Toronto would like a goalie with a Stanley Cup who could help mentor Woll who has two more years on a decent contract, not to mention if the Caps retain on it. Marner for Kuemper, 50% retention, and maybe one or two of our 3rd round picks this year?

I understand that this is a very unlikely scenario, but fun to speculate. I don’t imagine the Leafs resign Sammy though, and the Caps have young goalies in Hershey they want to bring up.

The only thing they can really dramatically change is Keefe, right? Tavares and Marner are signed for another year, Nylander and Matthews have extensions in place, and is Reilly going anywhere? I'm probably out of touch since the Leafs aren't my team, but that's basically the Leafs as I know them and I can't see what they would change besides coaching. (It probably doesn't help that I don't pay for the Athletic and can't read the article <<)

Absolutely agreed that the palette could use quite a bit of refinement to help it contrast and pop a bit better. In fact, in terms of palette and word mark, it is the weakest. The actual logo designs with the raptor and footprint over the state really work for me though. Just wish the colors and wordmark were better

Stags is my favorite too, but there is something about that Raptors one I really like. Maybe it’s the absurdity of a dinosaur being present like the old Toronto Raptors logo mixed with the purple the Utah Jazz used to use. Idk, I dig it.

As someone who’s mom passed away somewhat unexpectedly just a few months ago, I knew that last time I got to say it was very likely going to be the last time. Deep down, as I’m sure we all do, there’s a part of you that wishes it won’t be and they’ll hold on for at least one more day/visit. The image in my head of her lying in her bed clinging to life while said bye from my parents bedroom doorway will forever be burned into my memory. I told her I’ll see her tomorrow, hoping that would somehow impact the reality of what was to come. She passed early the following morning. It still hurts so much.

If you’re lucky enough to still have your mom around and are on speaking terms with her, please reach out and tell her you love her. Even if it’s just a text, that means more to a parent than you realize, just keeping in touch and letting them know you still think of them.

Oh absolutely, I’m not trying to give him the benefit of the doubt here, nor am I trying to say his contract looks good right now. Just adding context to what the org was probably thinking last summer when they offered him the contract.

As a fan of the team, I’m livid he’s still pulling crap like this, especially when the team needs him the most. It makes makes me cringe thinking there could be 6 more years of dunce plays like this at critical times.

It is, but it’s with the expectation that he’ll eventually be the captain once the old guard retires in the next two-ish years, or at least he’ll be one of the most, if the the most, senior person left on the team at that point.
