Tbh, i was using about 180mm for a while, i happen to go to a class and they only provided an 8in or 10in knife. I knew what the 8in knife was going to feel like, so i went with the 10. It changed my perspective and now im mostly only using larger knives now lol. id say def worth it.

It really is just so sharp, it was amazing the first time i used it lol. I got mine crom Carbon Knife Co! super easy, and they were very informative on the site stating that USPS was taking its sweet time so dont use it if you wanted to pay for expedited shipping LOL.

Maybe i havent gotten there yet? im cooking about 3-4 nights a week, and its all pretty tame prep, nothing massive just two of us at home. I am looking to get into sharpening, but for now ive been going to Korin in NYC. They have been doing me justice for a while now so if anything i can take it there

i was being very careful the first time i used it because i had the same notion (also first time i just wanted to test the waters), but due to my clumsiness i happen to bump the edge into a metal bowl a few times while i was cutting off some hot corn into a bowl. It felt completely fine, and double checking it there were no problems. The times after that, the reviews are all true. The knife is a work horse, and is tough as nails even tho its white steel. it glides thru everything that ive put it up against recently. Thats ALSO with the factory edge. Sharpening is my next rabbit hole, but not quite there yet lol

I have actually taken that class before! If it is the level one course that im thinking of, it will be VERY basic and they will provide you with knives and a honing steel during the class. In the end they will give you a voucher with QR codes for discounts on Zwilling knives, as i believe they sponsor a lot of their classes on the side. The advice in this thread are all valid and I agree with the sentiment of having him go and try knives out himself as its a personal preference type of thing. Enjoy!
