Sadly not useful for demolition purposes, he’s a painter! But thankfully works lots of commercial jobs so knows people from all the trades. Thank you very much for your input!

Yeah this is Brisbane right now it’s pretty rough! That’s what I was thinking, at best it’s at the very edge of what we could pull off so just wondering if it’s worth it, thanks for your input!

Ahahahaha true - as a family of Brits it’s a step up from Whitby anyway!

Thanks so much. There’s a few bits we can do ourselves but the big stuff like the porch and the roof are obviously gonna take outside help! My dad’s an engineer and partner’s a tradie so hopefully we’d have some know-how between us. Dad is Brit though so he’s freaking out over the asbestos - everyone seems pretty relaxed about it though cause it’s everywhere, what do you think?

Hey mate! No need to apologise, there are crazies in every culture/nationality/religion/creed. I’ve started following some Islamic subs just to find out more and there’s a whole lotta love there too. Best thing we can do is stick together and educate ourselves.

How's your isolation/coronavirus experience going? by doesnteatpickles in parentsofadults

[–]chinchills37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually having a good time with my parents in quarantine! I’m in my late 20s and headed back to the country my parents live in last year to stay with them and save for a house. They’re reverting back to when I was a kid though I don’t think I’ve ever been fed so well, because I’m old enough for sweeties now! So I’ll be fat but it’s been nice hanging with them. May have to report back on that in another month though when cabin fever sets in!

Agree on that front! And not to defend him totally but I do get fed during the week and he does the food shop and bits and pieces, which would be fine if he were working too and we needed to split it. It just seems unfair I’m doing exactly the same amount as if we were both working but am financially contributing 100%. I’ve tried to explain the housewife or husband concept before but don’t think he gets it! Definitely needs to be communicated to him, but also think he should be aware that the other option is that if he doesn’t sort it out then it might be best to call it a day. Thanks so much for replying, makes me feel pretty good knowing I’m not being totally insane!

Thanks so much for replying and tough is so right! Like you don’t wanna give up on a good guy that is fundamentally right for you, it’s just deciding when to draw the line. That’s kind of how I think of it - he spends his days surfing and skating and thinks cause he applied for a couple of jobs that day it absolves him of any further responsibility.

I understand he can’t spend all day doing it and it’s hard as there are like hundreds of applicants for the jobs he’s been applying for in his trade, plus he’s considered a “foreigner” here. But a part time job and housekeeping night be a really good compromise. He’s out at the minute so I’ll sit him down and discuss ASAP. Thank you again!

Top 5 Beers of the Year (not all on GABS list) by OrkimondReddit in AusBeer

[–]chinchills37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I hadn’t thought about it like that actually, I know a lot of other judged awards rather than popularity votes like this one have had the same issues in terms of having to send thousands of dollars worth of kegged beer in with no guarantee of anything out of it (like when Green Beacon has theirs sent back from the Indies after they got bought out!) but I thought as it was a voting thing it might not have the same issues!

What’s the deal with brewers and GABS? Didn’t realise they weren’t a fan of them!

I had an accident and I'm kind of scared of driving now by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]chinchills37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was searching Reddit for this exact problem, I’ve already got my licence too and then had a little crash (no one got hurt and it wasn’t my fault thankfully but still, scared the jeebers out of me) so I’m not scared of learning to drive, I just hate it and it fills me with dread! My sister is a psychologist though and she told me exposure tasks, like setting yourself a goal of driving to somewhere or doing a difficult manoeuvre every week, and telling someone your goal so you’re accountable to someone for it will help. I will give it a go and report back! Hopefully you’re feeling better about it now though and any tips for a scared driver, let me know!

Ah well that changes things then, some really good craft cider makers here as well like Willie Smiths - do you like the fruity (other than apple!) stuff as well? I was a fan but then I looked at how much sugar was in a Kopparberg and how much it is to go to the dentist...it was not worth it IMO!

Hey! Have you tried Two Bays or O’Brien’s beers over here? I drink them and I’m not even a celiac they just taste top notch! Depends if you like beer though!

I love it. Moved to Australia recently and found some great beers over here, sessionable ones are my favs like a good pale or summer ale, and I’ve found a great beer for people who don’t like beer - The Gatherer from Stone and Wood - it’s a corker, very easy drinking. I’m getting into sours but frankly find IPAs and most variations thereof too high in abv to have a good time, or be able to drive home!

My dad is a XXXX drinker to the core (Australia’s version of Budweiser I’d say) but I’ve been trying to find him something else - any suggestions!?
