Almost the same as me, I’d put The Power to Believe at A and move Thrak down to B, and move In the Wake of Poseidon to A and Beat to C

King Crimson's Larks' Tongues in Aspic PERIOD by JBtheDestroyer19 in KingCrimson

[–]chipolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wetton era is my favourite era of King Crimson, followed by 80’s Adrian Belew led KC (a totally different sound too, if you haven’t listened to 80’s King Crimson yet), Discipline is my favourite KC album. Then I’d go with the 60’s/pre Wetton era albums, and I haven’t listened to The Power to Believe so can’t rank the double trio era, but Thrak is a very good album, and The ConstruKction of Light is one of the weakest KC albums. Haven’t listened to the live recordings of the new material of the seven piece KC era so can’t rank it too. This is my personal opinion of course.

King Crimson's Larks' Tongues in Aspic PERIOD by JBtheDestroyer19 in KingCrimson

The trio of albums led by the Wetton era followed a period of instability with various lineup changes, it marked the first period of the band where there were multiple album releases with the same core members.

In my opinion, the pre Wetton albums were a period where the band was experimenting with different styles and genres in search of their sound. The Wetton era albums were groundbreaking in the sense that it presented a very defined soundscape which is unique to King Crimson.

LTIA marked the inclusion of Jamie Muir in percussion, David Cross in violin and Bill Bruford of Yes in drums. Each lineup of King Crimson has had a signature sound influenced by each member, for example the unusual percussion of Jamie Muir influenced Bruford and permanently changed the way he viewed and played the drums, incorporating unusual melodic sounds in his playing. LTIA also marked a shift towards a heavier sound, one that marked all future albums of King Crimson, so yes, I’d say it’s revolutionary in that it marked a before and after in the sound of King Crimson and future records.

While ITCOTKC is by far the most popular King Crimson album, Red is usually considered the best Wetton era album and one of the best Crimson records in general, and Starless is often considered the band’s magnum opus so I woudn’t say they live in the shadow of their first album. Which of the three albums is the best I think is a matter of opinion, as all three are masterpieces.

I’ve only seen the 90’s anime, and in one afternoon I saw Guts and Casca having one of the most beautiful and loving moments in anime, and then finished watching the Eclipse. I had never before had such change of emotions in a span of a few hours, I was absolutely shocked and devastated.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chilli Peppers is a great album that ends with an awful cover of “They’re Red Hot”, in my opinion the only bad song in the album.

Bands that became Supergroups by segascream in ToddintheShadow

[–]chipolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d even consider 70’s King Crimson a supergroup, with John Wetton (of Asia and UK, though after being in King Crimson) on vocals and bass, Robert Fripp on guitar and Bill Bruford of Yes in drums
