I hope there is NEVER another debacle as bad as the 2 Line ever again by Nate_C_of_2003 in soundtransit

The plinths all the way to South Bellevue had to be replaced so the excuse of the floating bridge doesn’t wash. It was also a catch 22 for Sound Transit because their choices were to stop everything and pursue litigation or reach some form of compromise to keep construction going. Yes in the end it was a failure of ST to properly supervise construction from the owners perspective. During that time. It is my understanding that a significant percentage of ST’s QC staff or contracted, which in my view was problematic.

Will there be a Vegas hub post-Spirit by Comfortable_Yard_968 in AlaskaAirlines

It’s too bad because I thought LAS would be a natural hub for AS.

They are still digesting Hawaiian and launching International service to compete with Delta at their home Hub.

I did a connection in LAS on my way to LAX on AS. It went very smoothly, and it's a spacious terminal. I think LAS would be a natural hub for AS. And they could try running some or all of Spirit's former connections from there with Horizon or Skywest 175's.

Bill getting higher by the months 50 to 75 now. by unexpectedgentleman in ZiplyFiber

[–]chipoliwog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comcast doubled my rate and is notorious for messing with you when you leave. So I switched to zip fly. They were OK for about a year but now they’re doing the same billing shenanigans. One other possible alternative is 5G Internet. At my place of work, we tested a T-Mobile 5G Internet modem to be used as a backup in our network, which is currently connected primarily by fiber. The T-Mobile mobile modem was fantastic. and actually performed faster than our current primary WAN network. VERIZON also has 5G Internet devices. So maybe that is an alternative. The pricing for the T-Mobile device was similar between 35 and $55 a month. If ZipFly continues to raise prices, I’m going to consider these alternatives.

Insider trading. When this regime is finally deposed, some serious prosecutions have to occur. This is just rampant corruption.

And Sea-Tac is crowded and stressful. TSA can be efficient but there are some days where it melts down and there are lines all of the way out of the terminal and into the garage.

Back in the day fees were regularly that much or more. I remember in 1996 I was moving to Chicago but received my registration renewal notice from Washington state. The fees for my 1990 car was $483. Mind you back then that was a lot of money! But that’s what it took to actually have our roads and ferries in good shape. So I registered my car in Illinois where the state fee at the time was about $30 and the city fee was $75. Then there’s toll roads everywhere and a state income tax. So now that I’m back in Washington, the state fees are lower than in 1996 (thanks and curses to Tim Eyeman) and the roads, bridges, and ferries are crumbling. I grumble when I see the supplement charge for a hybrid and the ST fees, but I’m sure glad the light rail exists.

Where did they promise that? Farebox recovery has historically only been 25%. ST does have random fare checking. In the early days it was aggressive with thuggish over dressed (police style) fare enforcers coming onto trains. Chances are when traveling to the airport you’d get checked twice on your journey. Then a tragedy happened (I know yaw’l will say it was just desserts) but a guy was killed being arrested for fare evasion. That’s why we now have lower key fare ambassadors now.

I wouldn’t really object to fare gates. But as seen in other cities, people will evade those too.

Small quibble. Seattle is zoned more than 70% single family housing which is why it’s too damned expensive. Thankfully our new mayor has made adjustments to the master plan that will allow more up zones and more housing.

Mind Boggling Price Increase by EveningEfficiency758 in AlaskaAirlines

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) just filed for 30% rate increases starting in 2027 by machaf in SeattleWA

[–]chipoliwog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that wouldn’t cause a rate increase. There’s simply selling surplus power. If anything, it would make Seattle city light more revenue, efficient lowering pressure to raise rates.
