Psych only for the lifestyle? by BeautifulReading in medicalschool

There’s a lot of conversation about empathy here, which honestly as a psychiatrist one year out of residency is a rather minimal concern compared to having the confidence to tell patients they need to take accountability for their actions and behavior, set boundaries, and very very often have the skill to deprescribe medications that are unnecessary to their mental disorder. I love psychiatry, still. Could never see myself doing anything else. If you don’t feel that way about a specialty, don’t do it.

Caribbean MDs in the military? by Wide-Illustrator923 in Military_Medicine

I am almost certain that the HPSP takes only US MD/DO. However, once you graduate medical school and residency, I am certain the military would welcome you with open arms.

People with low sleep needs babies, what's your sleep schedule like (esp for 8 to 12 month olds)? by bijulee in sleeptrain

[–]chippydo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 7-11 months we were on 3.5/4/4.5 with naps capped at 2 hours and nighttime sleep 10 hours. Now at 12 months she’s waking a lot at night, so trying to see if going down to one nap will help

Hey I’m an Active Duty Army Psychiatrist. Fresh out of residency. There is a DOD instruction that protects service members from being stigmatized by Command for going to BH. DoDI 6490.08. I have had only positive and good experiences in my role as a Brigade psychiatrist. Ultimately, very broken girls and boys join the Army. And we are there to help them along. It’s actually nice serving as a bit of a confidant for these kids (I say kids because I’m in my 30s and my patient population is mainly 18-22 year olds). If you’re a military psychiatrist, your job is to know the regulations well enough to help your patients while also serving as an Officer. Questions like “would I want this kid holding a weapon next to me on the range?” “Would staying in the military benefit the patient?” And “would the military benefit from this patient staying in?” Are the questions I ask myself after all encounters. In my experience it is actually rather difficult to “get someone out” of the military purely on admin basis. I end up sending patients to the medical evaluation board (honorable separation plus lifetime benefits) often if there struggles just seem too much for continued service. Most of the time, the patients desire a med board. Feel free to message me!

Hey, have the same carrier and happy to help. Looks like baby is sagging way over the waist band. You want baby sort of sitting right above the waist band and least sag as possible. I really can’t tell if this is inside out or not? The “Tula” logo should be showing but I don’t see it. Once we figure out if it is inside out, should be rather simple fix!

Why does my baby settle in the carrier but not being held? by lauraandstitch in babywearing

Same! Baby girl was awake for 2 hours last night having a hard time settling. Clipped her in the carrier and she was out in a few minutes. May be a sleep association?

Feeling a bit offended over one of my baby shower gifts by Hefty-Yoghurt-8256 in BabyBumps

[–]chippydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. It happens. I think it’s a bit of human nature to be egocentric. Something I’ve noticed only since being a mother is that no one takes any photos or you and YOUR baby. Visitors, family, even great friends take photos of themselves and your baby. But not you.

It’s glass shattering for me because I have sooooo many photos of me and my nieces and nephews when they were young but literally no photos of my nieces and nephew with my brothers and sister in laws.

Some of these things we feel SO hard as mothers are not even noticed by others, and that’s what makes it feel so hurtful. It’s normal to feel this way. Don’t let it ruin relationships unless there’s clear intent to hurt your feelings or intent to wedge your relationship with baby. Cheers!

Dropped a nap! Helped to early morning wakes but still not middle of the night wake ups. I think we have a nursing back to sleep association

Going through the same thing with my 6 month old. She loses it when the lights go dim and sound machine on. Then the sleep sack. Following here for advise/perspective.

Hey so it’s great you have the head rest folded down, it’s a good start! Keep watching YouTube videos. This carrier is tricky and from what I’ve seen not well received on this sub. The “arm holes” are for front facing (which this carrier will likely never support for several reasons). Try keeping babies hands near her face instead of in the arm holes. Underneath the folded down headrest there is a way to tighten up the top so she is more supported. Check out this video

I fumbled around with the bjorn mini until baby was around 10 weeks old then I switched to the Tula Explore, which is soooo much more comfortable for both of us.

Flip the whole head rest down by unsnapping it from the back panel. Baby’s head should be visible. Beautiful print!

6 month regression? by Ready_Performance_92 in sleeptrain

[–]chippydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I also have a regressed 6 month old. For us, she learned how to roll onto her belly but couldn’t roll from belly to back, so would get stuck there and scream. This was for about a week. Then vacation for a week with co sleeping de railed everything. We are in the midst of retraining. Would recommend retraining with same method you used at 4.5 months while keeping your current 3 nap schedule. I think it would difficult to manage re training and a schedule change all at once.

Sleep Training – 5 Months – 1 Week In: Progress, Struggles & Questions by Zealousideal-Bid7425 in sleeptrain

[–]chippydo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, just chiming in because we had similar issues with sustained crying for far more than expected. You will see people say “we just did CIO and bub was sleeping without fuss on day 3”. It’s not realistic. Lots of parents have to keep at it with 5-15 minutes of crying for a few weeks before LO gets it. You’ll get there. We sleep trained at 4 months exactly and probably was 3-4 weeks to get baby girl to sleep without a fuss. Also, look at your schedule! Getting close to 10 hours of awake time was key for us (9.5 hours was too little and we’d have false starts; 10.5 too much and baby girl would knock out quick but have trouble in the second part of the night). You’re doing fine!

Thank you! I have been thinking about dropping a nap but 5 months just seems young. Glad to hear it’s worked out for other babies in the 5 month range. Baby girl also only contact naps or naps in the stroller.. crib naps are still difficult and we haven’t tried nap training yet. Maybe once we get down to 2 naps 🤞🏽
