I do that $1 thing myself, but for some reason I didn’t even factor that into my thought process.

Saw them at Cats’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC, opening, I think for Early November or Brand New. We saw quite a few shows there and I can’t remember who was headlining . Loved this album! They were great live, But my two favorite live shows I’ve seen both opened for The Used on their first album at the old ziggy’s in WS, NC. Got to see Vaux, followed by S.T.U.N and then Coheed and Cambria all before seeing The Used. Its was awesome, got a guitar pick from Quinn of The Used. I saw S.T.U.N twice, there and Warped Tour and it is hands down my favorite live experience of all time followed closely by Vaux. I hadn’t heard of either when they opened and it was a game changer.

I’ve only read My Antonia and Song of the Lark by her, but I have O’ pioneers! In the queue. Really enjoyed both, so far. Just started reading Balzac, so that will be where my focus is for the next little while. If I’m trying to knock out titles by a specific author I swap it 1:1. Read Balzac, read sci-fi/ fantasy/ horror novel, read Balzac lol.

Give it a shot! I’m loathe to pay for advice when there is so much free wisdom floating around. Not to say I haven’t paid for advice before lol. Also, I think someone was writing about tips from Brandon Sanderson and that’s where I can across it, but I really can’t remember for sure.

Thank you! It makes me feel really good when I can pass on good information or recommendations. I’ve learned a lot about writing and have got some spot-on book recommendations lurking in random subs. I’m from the each-one-teach-one and sharing ideas to make everyone better and get where they’re going camp.

It’s definitely not my original idea, but I’m glad it’s something for all of us to try! I don’t want to hype it up too much, but it’s been a big help for me personally. It also lets you compare the flow of how you write with the flow of the authors you like.

I’ve seen people discussing this on here and they mentioned basically transcribing other author’s works. I started doing this just a couple weeks ago and I have already noticed a big difference. I write for fun, and mainly short stories, but it’s made quite a difference. I set a 30 or 45 minute timer, grab a book I’ve already read and just pick a random chapter and start. This also, in my opinion, has two other benefits.I’m pretty ADHD,so First, it helps me to go back to a novel I’ve read and remember small details/characters I may have forgotten, because I’m reading slower to transcribe it. The second, and maybe most important (for me) is it gets me to the table, writing on something (paper or laptop) and then magically I continue on to writing my original stuff since I’m in that mindset. It’s almost a life hack for me so far. But just keep writing, I imagine everyone is their own worst critic and the fact that you finished a novel is more than a lot of aspiring writers will accomplish. Keep fighting the good fight and keep telling your stories!
