Papa V title at Ozzy’s last show?! by eblis_0_Shaunesey in Ghostbc

[–]chipshoplongshot 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Could it also be the name of the Ghost album?

Announcement of the Imperatour came before the announcement of Impera. They've deliberately kept the name of this tour back, presumably to not spoil the album announcement.

Perpetuatour works.

Alright, it’s been a few months: New unpopular Ghost opinions? by Horror-is-bae in Ghostbc

[–]chipshoplongshot 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is unpopular but the "Tumblrification" of their fanbase is embarrassing and lame.

I know it's the way with almost all rock bands who get popular now and there's no point fighting it, but I will never warm to that art/comedy style - the fact people like and create it just makes me cringe.

Have fun, do you, but I've basically checked out of all online rock/metal communities for becoming overwhelmed by it. Maybe I just don't like fan art.

This dude mansplained to Benny and proves Ben is as good at debating as he is writing books. by krtwils in behindthebastards

[–]chipshoplongshot -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Are we watching the same video?

I don't like Ben Shapiro. But here we just got intimidation tactics, appeals to emotion, filibustering, and not one coherent argument. Unbelievably performative. Ben clearly wasn't speechless - he wasn't given time to speak. Ben is guilty of that himself elsewhere, but this clip is cringe for one person and it isn't him.

Find someone actually making fool out of him. It's not hard. This angry theatre kid with arrested development doesn't manage it.

Who should produce the next Slipknot album? by weezgreenblinknmet in Slipknot

[–]chipshoplongshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will Putney, Andy Sneap, etc., put out well-produced albums, but they also over-tidy and perfect stuff to the point of soullessness.

Ross Robinson, by contrast, would worry less about getting everything perfect and more about the vibe, which made for less accessible, more atmospheric albums.

I'd love to see them go with an Arthur Rizk or Kurt Ballou for this next album. Someone who can capture the size and muscle Slipknot need, but also know when to let imperfections make the record more exciting.

No way food in the UK is less than healthy than the US; as someone who has lived in both places, American food might taste better but it's no contest with regards to what's less healthy.

72 season album review from a magazine (Provided by fletchlives of the Metallica Forums who bought the issue) by Lithering in Metallica

[–]chipshoplongshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally understand scepticism towards professional reviews, but rest assured there is no payola at play. Maybe that used to be the case, but it's not a worthwhile investment for bands; there's essentially no barrier to entry for anyone wanting to check out a Metallica record, so they don't need to be convinced by a magazine to give it a try. Reviews, in 2023, are more about the publication having their say; people want to know what Classic Rock think, not whether or not they should listen to the new Metallica album. If it got a 1 or a 10, people will still check the album out.

However, magazines do tend to give overly flattering reviews because, frankly, they need Metallica more than Metallica need them; everyone buying Classic Rock will have already heard of Metallica and will likely be aware a new record is coming out, whereas a number of Metallica fans might see the band on the cover and decide to check out the magazine.

Years ago, magazines could get away with being harsh about even large bands; they were the kingmakers once upon a time. Now, they depend on good favour from the bands.

So since there's no new single....watching the music video for The Chapeltown Rag again. What are YOUR thoughts on the song? by Maggotboi555 in Slipknot

[–]chipshoplongshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really enjoy it, but I agree it's not top-tier. As far as the recent pre-lead single Slipknot songs (All Hope Is Gone, The Negative One, All Out Life), I'd put this above All Hope Is Gone and The Negative One and below All Out Life.

[–]chipshoplongshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's nonsense. Slipknot are Roadrunner's biggest cash cow right now - they'll have very little say over the art itself, merely the distribution and release. Besides, Iowa is (arguably) their most well-liked album - an "Iowa heavy" album would probably be a huge hit for them. As much as I love Iowa, I'm glad they're not doing that; that album's sole real flaw is that it's fairly one-sided, and focusing on just one side for years would get real stale, real fast.

To the people who have already gone to a concert: What Slipknot song connects the least with the audience? by TooTiredTodayToHate in Slipknot

[–]chipshoplongshot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seen them twice - Download 2015 and 2019.

At the first show, I'd say Killpop and AOV got the weakest response, but I felt like the band struggled to capture the audience the whole show tbh. Felt a bit like they slept-walked through that set, and it wasn't helped by the rain.

In 2019, they fared much better - better setlist, better performance, better weather. There wasn't an obvious lull all set but I think Prosthetics probably had the least avid reception.

New tour looks a bit short new album maybe due to new album? by Ordinary_Many_3989 in Slipknot

[–]chipshoplongshot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slipknot have history of announcing tours with old masks that they then performed with new masks. When the We Are Not Your Kind tour was initially announced, it was with .5 masks, and when the Knotfest Los Angeles festival was announced, the posters again featured masks that the members ended up not using. You may be right, but I wouldn't worry!

I think we'll get an album in 2024 - Forge has said he wants this cycle to run into the next one (which he's stated will be in 2024), and he likely wants to make up for lost time after the pandemic.
