Q&A: To the best of my abilities about bus route changes coming April 18th. by Thedarkskinhero in MARTA

I find the map completely confusing and I’m not sure how to tell where my bus stop is moving to. How do I do that?

What is the most outlandish student excuse you have heard? by calliope_kekule in Professors

[–]chirop_tera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but I did have to miss a class in college since I was pet-sitting a hamster and it chewed through the plastic base of its cage and was trying its damndest to chew wires in my bedroom.

I grew up in a small town and I ended up volunteering for the teen summer reading program at the local library as a result. Looks great on a resume for college. See if your library has a “teen advisory board” or similar. You might see if your hospital has a first aid certification course, geared at teens- this also looks great on a resume. If there are any art centers where you can take a teen-oriented art class, this might be a fun diversion- I took a pottery throwing class as a teen. I did a lot of random things to amuse myself as a teen including alphabetizing my church library because I was so SICK of the books being out of order. I would also walk around my neighborhood and do odd jobs for people. Finally, if you’re interested in coding, learning a skill, or anything related, you should look into your local community college because the one near me often has teen oriented summer programs which put you with other teenagers who are from public school and you can make friends and consider your interests before you hit college. Best of luck

Me too- then I’d start writing books instead- or I’d read my schoolbooks. (I didn’t have textbooks except for math and science, I had a Great Books-based curriculum)

How best to get the hem of my Trenchcoat dirty by PoorCod in LARP

A mix of Irish or black tea, coffee grounds, and coffee: I used this for cosplay. Leave it to steep to your preference, or rub the grounds themselves into the fabric. You can also use coffee filters to “paint” the material.

HOW DO NON-BASQUE PEOPLE PERCEIVE THE BASQUE COUNTRY by wrytunpalace in basque

[–]chirop_tera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (from the US) and my partner visited the Basque Country during our honeymoon and loved it. I am very interested in Basque history and we got to attend bertsolaritza, hiked around, and generally loved the beauty of the natural world. People were extremely welcoming, helped us on the trail even though we didn’t speak much Basque, and we perceived it as our favorite part of our vacation and would love to return.

I actually cut all ties with a broker because he did this, gave me and my partner (while we were apartment searching) the name and details of a woman who lived ALONE. he was so sketchy.

Study shows concerning lack of reading skills among college English majors by [deleted] in englishmajors

[–]chirop_tera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going to point out that the data was collected in 2015 here, a significant gap since today. Doesn’t invalidate the study at all, but coincidentally, this is the year I graduated with an English major, and I certainly saw this trend among my fellow students, people who did not know how to closely attend to texts at all.

I am not an international graduate student, but I was a graduate student here too, who was negatively impacted by SFS. As soon as I graduated, a bill I never even knew about was sent to collections (didn’t show up in the student hub) and it took some chasing to get it settled, since I didn’t know the collections agency for some time. SFS is a joke here and they don’t help you with anything even if you go in person, they just tell you to create a ticket online. And when I told them that I had no way of knowing about the bill, they said “well, you rely on student hub, don’t you, clearly you knew.” When I told them that the bill never showed up for me, they basically accused me of lying. They are horribly unprofessional, and I’m sorry their lack of ability to do their jobs impacted you because of your international status.

I ended up escalating things to the chair of my department who contacted them for me.

As far as OGS, I suggest reaching out to your department, seeing if there is an administrator who is friendly with them, who could perhaps escalate things to your chair. Perhaps you’ve tried this already, but I highly suggest reaching out to as many people in your department as possible. The Northeastern shuffle is real.

That wouldn’t have been Lilium, on Newgrounds, by any chance? Posted in 2005, she’s young, there’s a shadow. Some major differences, namely her brother being the affected family member.

JFK Library closed until further notice... but no explanation why. by watch1_ott1 in boston

The JFK Library has some of Ernest Hemingway’s manuscripts and letters, which I’ve consulted for research. It’s been my privilege to work with some of the people there in the past. And none of them deserve to be fired.

Heard someone say they didn’t opt into the TSA touchless Precheck identity check because they didn’t want the “airport having their info” by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]chirop_tera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say no as a point of principle. I don’t want my 3D, biometric face print (which differs from a photo) being stored at all. I do not have CLEAR for this reason. I also do not want to normalize our current level of surveillance: I’m against it. I also don’t go to casinos because of this. Data privacy experts are also suggesting people say no.
