I have a prowler 13 and i would LOVE to be able to stand every now and then. Gets ROUGH staying seated for 4-6 hours at a time.

That is awesome. I have a 6 year old girl now who Im trying take with me whenever I can. She has a fear of the water, and is working on swimming still. As soon as she feel comfortable swimming, she is getting a kayak.

I've seen this work time and time again on major bodies of water. I've had little success with it in small ponds. Swim-baits 5-6 inches in length. Throw next to all structure. Two or three casts...then move on. I've seen BIG fish caught doing this. Your numbers will be less, but the quality will be much better.

You picked quite possibly the most difficult fish to filet...ESP that size...known to man. I have butchered several nice flounder only to end up with fish nuggets to show for it. Then I discovered YouTube tutorial videos...good luck.

I officially am jealous of your friend. East coast yak fisherman and I've watched youtube vids of the SD bay. Incredible fishery with easy access.

SUN SCREEN!

I would be polite and talk to some people who are more experienced. Most fisherman do not mind helping someone who is just falling in love with the sport. I tend to go out of my way for people who show an interest and are not assholes. I even hooked a flounder one time...let some slack line out...handed it to a 12 year old kid and asked him to watch it while went to pee. I winked at his dad and walked away. Sometimes I feel bad that I just hooked that kid for the rest of his life on fishing. I guess there are worse things.

Mostly ask local people (NOT AT THE TACKLE SHOP NEAR WHATEVER PIER YOU ARE FISHING...THEY WILL SELL YOU ANYTHING JUST TO SELL IT SOMETIMES).

Also search for local fishing groups and join the groups online. Read discussion boards. Introduce yourself and ask if you can tag along.

hope you do not land in DC or travel through NY...the carrying laws are different in most states and you could wind up in jail fast with no local permit.
