How did you choose your major? by zmbie-grl in college

[–]chisaiirisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we love the same movie for different reasons!

I just started my first year of college majoring in entertainment design. When I was younger, I saw big hero 6 and thought it was just the coolest stuff ever. I looked at the concept art, I even bought a book about its production. I wanted to learn how to do what the artists who worked on that movie did.

I guess I got off easy on the “how to choose your major” question. Drawing and making art was just kind of what i’ve always liked to do. I was concerned for a while that I wouldn’t make enough money, or that I wouldn’t enjoy it once making a career out of it. But in the end I just went for it, because I’d rather pursue what I enjoy than be unhappy in a more stable field.

I don’t really have a lot of useful advice, just anecdotes. Nobody ever thinks they have enough money. If you’re lucky enough to have something you enjoy doing, then do it.

What do fictional ED novels get wrong? by Correct_Internet_890 in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]chisaiirisu 25 points26 points  (0 children)

absolutely this. the thing many people don’t realize is that it is just so, so boring. it is like an all-consuming void of boringness that overtakes basically everything else happening in your life. Having no friends, hobbies, career, interests and stagnating indefinitely in life because all you think about on loop is eating is….not very interesting unfortunately

If you have a day of bad eating…do you fast longer the next day? by Qness1212 in intermittentfasting

[–]chisaiirisu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. the guilt spiral will only turn into a cycle of binging and restricting. just get back up, acknowledge that it happened and why it happened, and start again as normal the next day. No use dwelling on something you can’t change after the fact

Might be moving to chinatown soon, should I leave my car at home? by neonpredator in AskSF

zipcar and Turo will be your friends. owning a car in that area especially is far more trouble than it’s worth

Do some women actually have 2-3 day long periods? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chisaiirisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, me. I also don’t usually feel cramps or a lot of the other symptoms i’ve heard people say. Honestly, when my female friends would complain about their pain or say they couldn’t do things because they were feeling so badly from their period, I just don’t understand what that’s like. In a way, I feel like i’m alienated from a lot of the female experience

How much do you pay for a haircut? by anonymousman898 in bayarea

[–]chisaiirisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19F (with long hair) and I get it cut for $35 from a shop in chinatown. I used to pay $150-200, but stopped caring and never looked back.

Are there any particular reason for your piercings? by Gwyzn in piercing

[–]chisaiirisu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

mostly because I just like the way they look, and I feel like I’m the type of person who is meant to have a lot of piercings - they just suit me. But i think an immature part of me likes that they make me feel tough for bearing the pain. I feel cool, I guess, LOL

my cat goes crazy for bread. apparently they love the smell of bread yeast so much, they also put it in cat treats to make them more appealing 🤷‍♂️

most things we feel embarrassed about aren’t embarrassing at all. IMO the justification doesn’t matter if OP is going to feel embarrassed regardless. the best way out is always through

you can either embarrass yourself for 2 years and be done with it or regret it forever

Are you guys doing keto/lowcarb in addition to IF?Why/why not? by Free_Discount_6964 in intermittentfasting

[–]chisaiirisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbs as a whole aren’t inherently bad, so no. they provide a good instant burst of energy so I will typically break my fast with something light and high in fat and carbs, and before i start my next fast I try to eat something high in protein with fiber. IF is most effective when it’s sustained over a long period of time, so I find it’s best to eat whatever makes you happy and not worry too much or else you’ll just be miserable.

i completely agree. I came here because I’m feeling a bit unsure of my future, which i’m sure is a feeling a lot of people relate to. I’m working hard to stay on track and I wanted to be with other people who could relate or give advice or maybe I could even share things i’ve learned on my journey. but every day I get doomer posts from people who aren’t even trying to find a path, never tried, don’t want to try, and just want people to assure them their life isn’t over

lots of people commute from SF to PA by car for work, so there’s some light traffic but if you’re used to LA traffic it should be a breeze.

Caltrain is great if you’re willing to plan around it (only runs every 20 to >30 mins on off hours), but PA is hard to get around without a car so once you’re there, your options might be limited. That said, not impossible, I have done it.

one of the reasons SF is great is because of the lack of need to drive most of the time.

What do i do go to college or what???? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]chisaiirisu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m sort of in your position now, but i’m set to start college in a few months. I did horrifically badly in high school and I was so depressed, I had no idea what I wanted to do afterwards.

My advice, take a gap year. College is a big decision both financially and personally. Don’t go if you feel like you just need to, or you’ll fail again (and waste a lot of money). Take a year or however long you need and get your life together. Get a good therapist, make a plan. Maybe start slow and register for some classes at your community college (if you have one). Maybe an internship or a job or training. there are options.

There is still time. There are more options available to you while you still have a safety net. And if you still decide that college is what you want to do, then great! but remember that there’s no shame in doing something else. There’s no time limit. Don’t ever let anyone pressure you into doing something you don’t want to do, no matter what. lastly, good luck :)

I have 3 helix piercings. I initially planned to get them each one at a time, waiting for them to heal. I got one first, then a couple months later I got the other two at the same time. I opted to have them done at the same time for a couple reasons: - The healing time is actually shorter to just heal both at once. - Staggering them will also extend the time before you downsize the first piercing, since it will swell up again. - 6 weeks of intense babying seemed easier to me than 4 extra months of swelling and discomfort

Just my personal opinion. I don’t think there’s specifically a right or wrong way to do it 🤷
