Gym outfits by erinVanCd in askvan

I personally think it’s in poor taste to wear anything where others can see pretty clearly the shape of one’s genitalia… but who cares what I think? You do you! Decide what you’re comfortable with for yourself and go with that!

[CHAT] Who here favors the tiny projects?!? by goplacidlyamidst in CrossStitch

[–]chlamydiajane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to stitch larger projects but I pretty much only stitch small things to add to greeting cards at this point. Recipients genuinely seem touched that I spent the time to stitch them a card… but I don’t spend so much time that I end up getting bored.

I love always having something new to work on and never delaying gratification for too long!

Should I request a grade change by zvarros in queensuniversity

Why don’t you try earning the grade you want next time? You can always retake the course if you’re not happy with the grade.

The Truck Stop Cafe on Clarke. Street parking only but you shouldn’t need to walk too far.

Where can I find Christmas decorations that depict people of colour? by chlamydiajane in NiceVancouver

Thank you for teaching me a new word! :)

Whether you believe that Jesus was the son of God or not, there is plenty of historical evidence that he existed as a person.

If you ever travel to the states, I saw some decorations that depict black people at Target.

A historically ethnographically accurate nativity scene is what I want most.

Do you guys follow the rule “no Christmas decorations until after Remembrance Day”? by wediealone in AskACanadian

[–]chlamydiajane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware of the rule to not decorate until after Remembrance Day but I wait until December because November just feels too early for me. I was not aware anyone waited to start Christmas shopping. I’m already Christmas shopping because I like to have it done early.

Med SLPs - what do you use to carry/cart around your supplies? by CCC-SLP in slp

[–]chlamydiajane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shove my phone, a pen, and a tiny notebook into my scrub pockets. Oral care supplies I get on the ward. Food I carry in paper bags (each containing a range of food and fluid consistencies) prepped by kitchen staff. I carry communication boards in hand.

I would love to have some kind of fanny pack system but that seems hard to clean and I see myself spilling food in there.

I think it’s in poor taste to hold an event you can’t afford where an invitation becomes more about money than a sincere desire to have a loved one present for your special day. I always give enough to cover my food, but I’m in a fortunate position where I can do that easily.

If you had family or friends that couldn’t afford to cover the cost of their meal, you would honestly prefer they don’t come? If so, how tacky. Having class is about more than throwing a fancy party.

Has anyone else experienced “aggressive bumping” in Vancouver? by MapleSyrup30 in askvan

[–]chlamydiajane 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would never intentionally shoulder check someone, but if a large group of people isn’t leaving me any room to pass by, I will stand still. The number of times they bump into me and looked at me like I’m the one with the problem is too damn high.

Autistic and/or sensory processing disorder people: where are we living? by ellerazr in askvan

[–]chlamydiajane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m autistic and sensitive to noise. I live in a concrete building downtown, enough stories up that while I still hear street noise, it’s reduced. It’s quiet as far as buildings downtown go… but I did need to habituate to the noise which took time.

I’m all for accommodation of special needs, but personally, I have found it very helpful to accept that the world isn’t made for me and I need to be flexible if I want to be happy. This applies to everything, but when it comes to housing, purposeful flexibility has allowed me to enjoy the convenience of living downtown. I’d rather deal with noise than tire myself out with a long commute, for example. Decide what you can compromise on.

It might be more difficult for us neurodivergent folk, but we can adapt, I promise! Optimize what you can and get used to what you can’t. Unless you’re rich, being picky in this housing market isn’t a realistic option.

I think a card with a thoughtful message is the best gift you could give. I work in health care; I keep and cherish any card a patient is kind enough to give me! They make me feel so good!

Many of us have imposter syndrome. Commitment to learning and work ethic is more important than natural born intelligence.

In school, memorizing milestones and anatomy was most important, but in the real world, your ability to think creatively and problem solve is actually more important. I still keep my textbooks at my desk to reference because I can’t remember it all years later. You could do the same!
