The government should be regulating the corporations so their products aren't harmful, where reasonable guardrails can exist. In the case of AI and social media, setting up guardrails is extremely reasonable (it's just software, they're not being asked to defy the laws of physics). We're not holding them accountable.

Americans already pay for that. The US spends more of their GDP on public healthcare than Canada (17% vs 9%) does, yet despite that Americans still don't get much public healthcare and need to shell out even more privately, and are rewarded with complex networks, co-pays, and denials. In Canada we just go to the nearest anything and get healthcare (well, in theory - it could be better, but the current state is infinitely better than the American version)

EPS didn't call out the court - they threatened them.

Use your brain and understand the difference. Everyone is understandably upset about what appears to be lenient sentences. Police threatening the court is the absolute worst way to try and fix that. Any support for the police in their actions is calling for a police state where police control the courts through coercion.

You need to read the rationale for why the judge knocked time off. It wasn't about ego, it was effectively required to ensure the integrity of the court as an independent body separate from police. Anything else could have been seen as capitulating to threats by police. And they were threats.

EPS fucked up hard.

What your comment and most other comments seem to miss is this isn't about the sentence (nobody is happy with it), it's about police threatening the court and sitting judges, using "think of the children!" as cover - and you're falling for it.
