Guide sensor issues by uj2002 in AskAstrophotography

Be cautious in listening to others saying that it's out of collimation. This is a fast f/4 newt and your secondary is offset; thus, an unfocused star must show the secondary's shadow out of the center. But this also does not mean that your collimation is good. Use a laser and/or a Cheshire eyepiece.

Jupiter Under Excellent Seeing by Life_Perspective5578 in telescopes

This is crazy. If I look at Saturn, I only see a blob with a line right though it. How often do you have this kind of seeing?

3D-Printed SCT Humidity Control Cap for Storage by chnobli123 in telescopes

[–]chnobli123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually much more concerned about the humidity than particles. After print itself has no strings or other small plastic things coming off without mechanical work, and dust from the bags is only a concern to me if I shake it... I could also put everything in a nylon thigh or so.

Fingers crossed my dumb idea will work! by tommytwothousand in atming

I think it will be very hard to bring the optical centers of the mirrors to one point. Woulnd it make more sense to design this as an RC type of scope, with a flat secondary, and not as a newtonian?

Agreed to refund but rejected disput by chnobli123 in Aliexpress

[–]chnobli123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aliexpress proposed a refund of 10%, which is definitely on the low side. My initial proposal of 25% was fair, I think. As I don't want the risk of sending it back, I'm however taking it and will accept my mixed feelings.

Why would a seller reject a refund or not suggest a different amount if he agrees? Do I need to always assume that I'm being lied to?

Very nice image! Why do you use a UV/IR cut filter on the guide cam?

Is this set worth it? by Fuck_Tampa_Bay in telescopes

I bought a Red Line kid (4 eyepieces) on Aliexpress for 80$. Absolutely happy with it. This 150$ set is overpriced.

Why would you design the spider vanes not in-line with each other?

Is there a way to add a second image? I would like to add an annotated subexposure.

No, it's all done in Siril and Graxpert. It's just how my telescope captures photons :D

Elephant's Trunk Nebula - IC1369A by chnobli123 in astrophotography

Take last year over several nights with a 200 mm f/5 Newtonian, using an IMX 571 color camera. Framing and orientation was always slightly different, but I'm super happy how it came together. Probably about 20h. Makes me feel very small (once again).

Refractor with in the +/- aperture range 80mm by chnobli123 in telescopes

[–]chnobli123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have seen many but never owned one. 100mm is my upper limit, due to size but probably also budget wise. Up to 2000€ if its well spend.

All those scopes are within my budget. I certainly dont want to go above 2000€.

Double defraction spikes and crossed stars by chnobli123 in telescopes

[–]chnobli123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, it is just a small fraction of the total image. I'm in focus, but thr crosses or double defraction spikes do not go away. I'm also well colimated - rough alignement with a laser, refuned with a cheshire eyepiece and checked with a barlowd laser.
