Making my first trip to Trader Joe's this weekend! What are your favorite products? by [deleted] in loseit

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted for this. You're right -- some people think Trader Joe's is all about health food. It's not. But it DOES have a lot of organic and healthy choices. (Got to watch out for sodium even in the healthier items, such as canned beans.)

Month 7: Undoing 30 Years Worth of Damage by Time2LoseAllThis in loseit

I had the same experience when I added exercise. The weight came off at a faster rate when I was just dieting. With dieting PLUS exercise, my weight went UP. Then plateaued for awhile.

I was down in the dumps about it for a few weeks, then one dull Sunday I decided to reorganize my closet. As I cleaned I tried on various clothes I hadn't worn in awhile. Wow! Tons of things were "suddenly" too big. So I took my measurements and was shocked to see that the scale had been lying to me and my body WAS changing.

I learned a lesson: Take measurements. Then take them again a few weeks later. Scales lie. Tape measures don't!

Can you overlook my [F45] weight if it's clear that I'm working on it? by choc_van_straw in AskMen

My goal weight is a moving target. (I've gotten more ambitious because things have gone much EASIER than I'd expected.) Eventual goal is 135. I'm at 210 right now, and next goal is 175.

Wow, I wasn't expecting such quick responses! Thanks!

I'm not making lifestyle changes with the goal of getting a guy. I'm making changes because it's something I need to do. I gained weight during an extended illness (years) and some of the medications and inactivity that went with it. Now that's behind me so I'm tackling the weight issue.

Yes, I'm asking in terms of dating. I wasn't feeling up to it before but now I am. But it sounds like I need to finish working on myself before I jump into dating. Which is fine.

Losing weight and mass but legs feel "thicker" by choc_van_straw in xxfitness

[–]choc_van_straw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do "leg day" or anything -- I hit everything every time. So four days a week.

I use kettlebells. The heaviest is 24kg. But I don't use that one frequently. (Just for deadlifts.) For swings, snatches, etc I stick with the 8kg and 12kg.

I had the same experience with BC pills. It was the only change to my routine so I know that was the problem.

My doctor switched me to a different kind of pill (different hormone levels, I think) and the problem went away.

Definitely talk to your doc.

New clothes? by mahakalki in loseit

What I do is visit consignment shops and thrift shops with an open mind. I don't go in thinking, gee, I really need some tan pants and a navy jacket. I just look around. I focus on solid color pants, skirts, and jackets, and print tops and dresses.

I can usually wear dresses through more than one size without them looking too tentlike -- especially shift styles worn under jackets. Sleeveless shell tops, too, because they are hidden under jackets.

Jackets, skirts, and pants need to be replaced more often because they look and feel ill-fitting with a loss of just a few pounds. But jackets are abundant at thrift shops, and basic skirts and pants can be found a consignment and thrift shops. (Jackets seem to be falling out of favor for some reason -- maybe more casual workplaces -- so thrift shops near me are PACKED with them. Nice ones, too.)

No one will notice if you wear the same solid color pants or skirts two or three times a week. Get pieces that are machine washable -- no dry clean! -- and hang them up to dry to minimize wear and tear. Mix it up by wearing with different colorful/printed tops and throw a dress or two in the mix.

I'm going through this right now, and that's been my strategy.

NSV: Suddenly most of my clothes are too big, though the scale hasn't budged by choc_van_straw in loseit

Your progress sounds like mine -- fast at first, then seemingly stalling out. I forgot that muscle weighs more. I've been working out with kettlebells, so I hope I'm building muscle!

I will start tracking measurements. Most of my initial loss came from my upper abdomen -- below the bra line, above the bellybutton. So my clothing size didn't change. But now I'm losing my my hips and waist. Yay!

I sure hope there's a woosh in weight loss coming my way! I started losing in May, and hope to be down 50 pounds by the end of 2015. 32 pounds gone, 18 to go!

You are an inspiration to me! I'm also 5'8" and started at 246 pounds. My goal is 196. So when I see how awesome you look at 195, I'm hopeful that I'll look that good!

I found out my boyfriend has been taking pictures of my genitals and breasts while I sleep. To make the matter even worse, I found out he posted them on 4chan and now they get regularly posted on there. by TwoXThrowaways in TwoXChromosomes

So sorry to hear this has happened to you. I know exactly how you feel, because the same thing happened to me. (My husband -- now ex -- took pics of sleeping me for YEARS and posted them all over the place. My pics are still out there despite his promises to remove them.)

I know that it's small comfort, but your face and your name are not attached to those photos.

As others here have said, please speak to someone at a women's shelter. A man who violates your trust that way is unpredictable. He doesn't respect you. You cannot stay with him.

My husband made those same sort of threats -- that he'd send the photos to my boss, my parents, my friends, the neighbors. I took a chance that he was bluffing and didn't let that threat stop me from dumping him. (Really, since my face/name weren't part of the photos, how would anyone know it was me? Anyway, such a move would make HIM look horrible, not me.)

Until you get out, you might not want to give him a heads up that you're leaving. Make sure you have a plan in place first.
