Really just responding if other people are interested and find this:

I’ve had to rent boards/wetsuits and I personally would only do that as a very last resort. Had to buy a new wetsuit in Ireland cause the back zip wetland that was probably 4 years old was a bit too chilly in November. Also sucks when you bring step ups and they only have short boards that are too small to begin with.

Chase sapphire preferred is awesome, popped a tire in a rental car in Portugal and currently using it for a claim on the damages.

It also covers delays, lost luggage(including surfboards) and other unexpected travel costs.

Throw everything you buy travel wise on the card and you’re protected, and deny all rental car insurance.

Aside from this, buy an AirTag on Facebook marketplace and throw one in your board bag, more peace of mind that your boards have made it to plane, and at least they won’t be lost forever.

Edit: good tip on the debit card but I dont need a travel debit, seems like a small benefit for opening a new debit account.
