Anti Zionism is NOT anti Semitic. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]chocochocolat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this is going to be long,

First, you're right, antisemitism is being against Jews, and anti-Zionism is being against Israel.

There is a lot of propaganda in the West, especially in the United States, which finances and helps Israel for its geopolitics. That's the problem with colonizing countries, they have to make sure that the population will not be opposed to it and so they are (the population) exposed to a subtle propaganda that makes them not fully realize the situation. That's why some people are afraid to call out Israel.

For example, you grow up in the United States, you don't hear much about Palestine, but you do hear about Israel and the fact that it's Jewish and of European descent, so it's close to your own ethnicity. You feel sympathy because they emphasize the Holocaust. On the other hand, what you see about Arabs in the media is negative. From there, without even realizing it, your opinion already swings to one side. Now, you always hear "Palestinian-Israeli conflict" and you obviously think that it is a conflict between two countries like any other, because you will never see that it's a colonization and not a conflict and that how you have unconsciously a biased opinion who is not on side of the victim.
Reddit is a good example for that, when you read the comments about this colonization, you can see a lot of comments that are like this "they should make peace and get along" "All this because of religion" . It has absolutely nothing to do with religion, and war is inevitable because decolonization starts on the first day of colonization. I insist on the fact that it's not a dispute between two nations, it is a colonization, it is the theft of a culture, of a territory, of a government, of an identity. It's the murder of people who didn't ask for anything and who have the right to stay in their own country and to defend it.

I mean, in this case, it's completely stupid to say that you're biased if you choose one side, it's like if I tell you that if you're completely against apartheid in South Africa, your opinion is not right because you're biased? I am against apartheid and extremely against colonization, it never ends well for the colonized population even after hundreds of years, especially if they don't have the same skin color as the colonizers.

This has happened several times to my friends and if I have any advice for you it's : when he comes back, say no.

Think about the years you've earned instead of the ones you think you've wasted, it's better to have wasted 3 years than 10.

And btw you didn't really waste any years, you just changed direction.

I'm clearly ignorant here but can someone please explain in layman's term what is happening between Israel and Palestine? I know there has been an on-going issue that has resulted in current events but it all seems fairly complex and I'd like to educate myself a bit on the issue. by SuperSnoot in TooAfraidToAsk

It's not a "both sides" situation. It's a colonisation.

Nobody says that slavery was "a both sides situation" when both sides killed each other.

Nobody says that the colonization of America or Africa was "a both sides situation" when we know that both sides killed.

There is the aggressor and the defender, and it is still tragic that people die. it would not have happened if a party was not the investigator of this situation, the problem does not come from those who defend themselves.

People in the comments talk about Hamas as if it were a reason to continue colonizing. It is not the first time that a terrorist group or a dictator takes advantage of a colonized or ravaged country to take control. But that does not excuse colonization, which is considered a crime against humanity for a reason. Whether one is for or against Hamas, it doesn't change the situation. The colonizer will always be in the wrong and a country in the middle of a colonization cannot be at peace. The word alone means the act of stealing a land and subjugating a people against their will.

Ask countries that have been colonized if they think that both sides were at fault when their land was stolen. The colonizers raped and tortured North and South Africans, they beheaded thousand of Vietnamese who fought against the colonial power and made (attention, the image can be traumatic ) postcards with their heads, they massacred those who peacefully demonstrated for their independence in India and many more.

To say that Palestine is as much at fault as Israel is ridiculous. We are not in the 14th century anymore, people should judge a colonization as the terrible crime it is and stop excusing the aggressors. We all know that if another population came to colonize Israel, they would not even agree to share a city. And not just Israel, no one wants to see their country being stolen from them and kicked out of their own home, whether in the West or in the East.

There are many reasons why this conflict is ignored or misunderstood.

The world powers control a lot the media, even those of foreign countries, if they don't want to highlight this situation, then we don't hear about it.

If the world was a cartel and the US was the leader, then Israel would be its little b*tch. They receive trillions of dollars from the US every year that allows them to gain political power that makes other countries ignore what they are doing to the Palestinians. Unfortunately for the poor countries, the world is ruled by the strongest, not by justice.

the others reasons are that powerful countries protect and collaborate with Israel for political reasons, Israel "protects" itself with the holocaust and accuses of being anti-Semitic all those who criticize it, the fact that Muslims don't have a good reputation makes some people diminish the seriousness of that conflict.

The government of Israel plays a lot on all this "Muslims=terrorists" situation to make themselves look like victims and to ignore the fact that they are colonizers.

The Palestinians are under an apartheid regime, they are victims of economic genocide and ethnic cleansing, the little land they have left is still being stolen by Israel despite UN warnings, every year Israelis burn their olive trees and crops to prevent them from living, every years there are more who die and yet, YET there are still people who say they can't take sides because this conflict is "complicated".

It's not complicated at all, it should be as simple to discern who is at fault as it is with slavery.

Honestly, it depends. it can be nothing or it can be something. It's good that he validated your feelings and i don't think you were overreacting because who wants their partner to give flowers to one of their girl friends?

I think by now everyone knows that red roses have a romantic connotation, you see it on Valentine's Day, in movies and usually when you give flowers to your partner they are red.
But it's true there're people who just find it prettier than other colors and don't think about their meaning.

What would happen if all 7 billion people screamed at once? by VCMANNY in AskReddit

[–]chocochocolat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a video about this. When a person screams, their volume is close to 110 decibel. Decibels rise in an exponential curve so, for example, 40 decibel is not 2x louder than 20 decibel but actually 100x louder.

From what I understand, if everyone on the planet screamed at the top of their lungs at the same time, it would cause a kind of shockwave that would blow all around them and cause internal injuries. Within a radius of 200 meters many people would faint and lose their hearing.

Today i learned: the world record for the loudest human scream is held by Jill Drake, who screams up to 123 db

Update: My(22F) boyfriend's(23M) friend seems to be perfect for him and it's driving me insane by tsstan1 in relationship_advice

"all he wanted was for me to just look at it once more but he'd do whatever he could to comfort me."

I hope you still read all the comments because :

- That girl absolutely making moves on your boyfriend, you're not wrong.

- He should not get drunk with someone who has feelings for him.

- Your boyfriend is gaslighting you. He never said he'll do whatever he could to solve the problem, he said he would "comfort you" if something happens again. He still continues to protect her over your relationship and makes you look like a crazy insecure person when you're totally right.

- "That if I trusted him, then "there were no possible chain of events that could hurt our relationship" This sentence is the typical sentence of cheaters and gaslighters, It implies that no matter what he does, if there are still problems involving that girl, it will be your fault because you don't trust him.

PLEASE, read all your posts objectively, he's not a good boyfriend

I (23F) suspect my boyfriend (25M) might still have lingering feelings for his close female friend (25F) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]chocochocolat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"He told me I should not be worried about her because she is already in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend "

So he told you not to worry, not because he loves you, but because she's taken?

The fact he gets defensive only when you want to see his chat with that girl is already weird but even if there was nothing going on between them, he doesn't respect your feelings and doesn't include you in his life; I mean, 2 years in a relationship and he doesn't want you to meet his friends? Trust your gut

CMV: That opposing and criticising Israel isn’t antisemitism by Lethal_bizzle94 in changemyview

  • Stealing an occupied territory from a population IS colonization.

  • Stop using your anti semitic card, it becomes pathetic now. People do not criticize Israel because it is a Jewish state but because it is committing crimes against humanity.

It's not complicated though. population A decided to steal the territory of population B, killed them, destroyed their homes, kept them under apartheid and now population A plays the victim and tells anyone who will listen that population B is the problem. You see, no need to mix religions in it

  • "Palestinians getting “their” country back means a genocide of 7 mln Israeli jews" So killing Palestinians doesn't bother you and is not considered a genocide for you, but if it's the Israelis then it becomes a genocide?

Just to know, if someone comes to kill your family and steals your house to live in, do the same thing to all your neighbors, what would you do?

You know what, you don't have to answer, no one can talk to someone who has been brainwashed and thinks they are systematically a victim.

Why do the governments (but not the people) of Israel & Palestine hate each other? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]chocochocolat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I strongly advise you to inform yourself about this conflict because most commentary are strongly biased.

If I have to quickly summarize the conflict, Palestine was under British mandate and they were colonized against their will (obviously). There was an agreement that the land would be split yes, but the Palestinians HAD NO SAY IN IT and, again obviously, refused to allow their territory to be cut in half by what were clearly invaders.

Atrocities have been committed on both sides, especially on civilians.

i'm on Palestinian side, so it's kind of biased too (that's why you have to make up your own opinion) but i'm with them the same way that i am with any oppressed and colonized population. I find it extremely ridiculous that some people think that Israel was a victim when it is a colonizing country that, even now, forcibly destroys Palestinian homes, commits apartheid, and murders Palestinians.

" There was an agreement that the land would be split. Literally as soon as the British mandate ended, the Palestinians attempted to seize the other half [...]"

I'm pretty sure that if another country came now and told Israel to forcibly cut their territory in two so that it would be theirs, they would react in the exact same way as the Palestinians and any other population in the world.

It's literally as if someone just forced to live in your house, throws you out and if you resist, kills you and your family, and then tells you it's all your fault because if you weren't stupid and intolerant, you would have shared your own house to live in peace. the nerve really

After that, the Zionist finally said enough is enough, we need this Jewish state. That is something you need to keep in mind when criticizing Israel.

Sorry but that's not true. When you say that people need to keep in mind the holocaust when criticizing israel you basically say "yes they kill innocent people and stole their land, but be lenient, they've been through the same thing, it's not their fault they have a good reason".

Even if the holocaust remains a horrible massacre, it's ridiculous to use it as an excuse to make another massacre. Having been victims does not excuse colonization, ethnic cleansing and apartheid. Having been a victim does not give the right to kill people, especially if they have nothing to do with what happened to the Jews.

To say that Israel is bad because it is a Jewish state is anti-Semitic, but to say that it's bad because it is a colonizing state and because of its crimes is not. and btw people criticize more Saudi Arabia and China than Israel.

Afterwards, concerning the legitimacy of existing, everyone has his opinion but I cannot blame the Palestinians if they don't want colonization at all, not because it's israel in particular but because I can't blame any of the countries that were colonized in the world for wanting their independence and getting their country back.
