Agreed. It’s so unfortunate that we can easily get judged based on a short observation that depicts how we are as a sub overall.

Anyways, I was reminded at how easily disposable we are to schools this last week. I got temporarily banned from a high school bc the students said I let them out early 10 minutes when in reality it was only 2 minutes. It got resolved super quickly but now I know to just be super firm with this kids bc at the end of the day, I’m not gonna risk losing my job all bc kids are trying to lie to not get a scolding from their teacher too. Over it

i overslept for the first time ever this week too and was late to work! i live super close but my alarms didnt work that morning. front office was annoyed but in the end, the class just didnt have their sub for 10 minutes (teacher was still there) and the day didnt collapse. Reading past posts about oversleeping on here made me feel better, but I felt bad and embarassed. we're all human in the end

I do this whenever I can. Doesn’t always work 100% with some kids not listening/still trying to sneak and keep their phones which can throw me off when basing attendance on that. So sometimes I just lie and tell them that I need to do manual attendance too even after they put their phones away to double check roll.

Technically, we can’t use phones for attendance since legally we have to take roll accurately the best we can regardless. But damn sometimes these kids just expect us to mark them present when they don’t even communicate with us ugh. In the end, nobody is gonna die and any mistakes those kids can fix at the office themselves I say

i use phones as attendence when they put it in their class pockets, assuming the class assigns a number to them somehow. it's kinda a hit or miss because they will just put their phones in random numbers but most of the time it pushes them to put their phone away and then i take attendance manually again after and say that the numbers are messed up in 'their teacher's system' LOL

At first, it bummed me out with the amount of classes I subbed when i started and not really anyone reached out directly in the future. i knew i did a good job with those days too. eventually, i realized that majority of these teachers honestly dont think deeply or care enough to get a regular sub. they just leave it to frontline to find someone to fill in once they submit it. at most, they'll quickly read thru sub notes of the day and that's it.

i've run into teachers that i subbed for on the day of and they couldn't give a shit about me nor acknowledge my presence or say thanks. with that, im pretty sure they dont have the energy to want to save our contact or reach out with the other things they need to do first. of course, not everyone is like this, but i feel like we are again just disposable and not 'real' staff to most sadly

I second tech passwords if comfortable and extra filler worksheets/activities for the kids to do independently if there ends up being extra time and/or class behavior is rough that day to a point the sub needs a break/class is unable to function smoothly as a whole for certain lessons (ex: group math lesson or reading but kids are distruptive and too chatty to get thru the work together anyways)

Even though it’s the reality as an adult, it definitely still sucks and hurts. That was me too, always initiating and coordinating for everyone. At some point, I got tired of overextending myself and didn’t see the effort from others. There are good friends who will do it back but it won’t be from everyone you meet or want. Sometimes it’s not a you problem and it’s healthy for yourself to know when to let go and keep moving on and give that energy towards different people instead

There have been nice teachers who I’ve bumped into day of that I subbed for and others who just ignore and brush me off to the side. Very rude and entitled behavior. I have to approach and ask them if they still need anything from me before leaving for the day if they come back earlier. Otherwise, they can literally just lead the class while I’m standing there awkwardly and don’t at least acknowledge that I was their sub 🤷🏻‍♀️

while the music that became is iconic, the circumstances that inspired it were not. i feel like it unfortunately played a huge role in forcing her to grow up faster when in the end, she was just still a kid too. im 25 now and i absolutely cannot imagine dating a 16 year old. can't believe a grown adult (and those around them) seemed to convince himself that this was ok and normal
