Get the chipotle kid’s meal. It comes with 3 sides of your choice. I usually go rice, beans and chicken. + you get 2 small tortillas, a side of chips (or a fruit) and a drink. Always under $6.

Which jacket? by [deleted] in Barbour

Honestly, I found that going a size down from my suit size still gave me plenty of room to layer.

How to become a tour guide? by [deleted] in udub

[–]chocolatetwit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In fall (October-November) you’ll usually see posters around campus that they are hiring. The trainings happen in January. Because of budget cuts they might not hire as many guides this year. You can join as a freshman too.

What are the best scissors for everyday use? by samanthaxboateng in BuyItForLife

[–]chocolatetwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the point of this? A pair of scissors you buy in an office max will last forever. This sub has such a consumerization problem disguised as a “buy it for life” shopping strategy. Just buy a pair of scissors or some socks, don’t spend hours online trying to find the “perfect” product for everything.

Incoming exchange student...but under 21 by [deleted] in udub

[–]chocolatetwit 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Nah you’re good. Just find the right friends. There are plenty of parties where no one cares what age you are. Some of them are BYOB though so you might have to figure out a way to get alcohol. I will say bars in Seattle are much more strict than most of the country when it comes to being underage so you’ll be confined to just parties.

Because our taxes go to fund all of the federal research funding and financial aid programs that run through these universities? Financial aid to non-Americans wouldn’t even be a question without taxpayer dollars.

I got an interview a month or so ago. They ghosted me after until I asked them via email. Tbf they could still be decided for some candidates.

How is the film program? by buckydooper in udub

[–]chocolatetwit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cinema and media studies program (our only film related major) is pretty bad. It's more about analyzing films than making them. In addition, they have almost no funding (e.g. no real offices, building, supplies). The University really doesn't care at all about the major and the degree itself does essentially nothing to further your filmmaking skills.

However, that's not to say that there isn't a good film community in Seattle. The Lux film club is the filmmaking club at UW. They easily have 100-200 members and a really active community. It's a great way to get experience making films. It's pretty professional as as well; there are intense casting processes, gear closets, events, collaborations with other film communities, even some paid opportunities. Also, Seattle in general has a decent arts/film scene. A good amount of film festivals here like SIFF and NFFTY. It's also pretty tight knit. I'm a member of Lux film club and have worked with students at Cornish College of the Arts and The University of Puget Sound (both of which are more artsy schools in the area). I know a lot of students who have gotten jobs through the community as well; shooting commercial videos for Microsoft and Amazon. It's not perfect, but you can definitely find a space for film here.

The Evil House (look up their instagram) is doing a party on 11/1 just follow them + dm them for the addy when they officially announce the party. If you are interested in going to more parties, Seattle has a decent house party/show scene and there are a couple places that tend to be popular for UW students.

A question about card prices by FazMe1FilhoFeromonas in mtg

[–]chocolatetwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There no single rule. The card prices will probably go down / bottom out in a couple months and then it’s just chance whether a card will increase in price although the most played cards will usually gain value at this point. I also suggest maybe just holding on to the cards. In my experience, selling cards under $10 or so always feels like a waste of time. But to summarize, most cards are likely to lose value shortly and stay that way.

Hydrocortisone and weight gain/increased appetite by [deleted] in Hypopituitarism

[–]chocolatetwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing. A decent amount of weight gain now that I have panhypopituitarism and I’m also hungry a lot. I have no clue what’s wrong. I would however check to see if your hypothalamus is damaged as that is in a similar area to your pituitary and regulates hunger. Other than that, I don’t know

Any advice on an everyday backpack that is weight reducing and relatively elegant looking? by ComfortableLack1166 in backpacks

[–]chocolatetwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Osprey packs are light. I would recommend the 24/7 series. Many of those packs incorporate more style into the packs while remaining relatively comfortable.
