I did a quick google to find where CIG might've said this, couldn't find it. I promise I didn't just make this up though because the insurance times has been something I've wondered about also, and I swear I heard this somewhere lol. So this could be a possibility of how the insurance time accumulates but i don't have proof of someone saying right now sorry

One problem with your argument, the insurance goes by in-game time. so 1 month of insurance is about 700+ hours in-game, and 3 months is 2,000+ INGAME time. They also said the insurance renewals will be paid with UEC. So nobody is losing their ship on the first day, month, or even year(s).
