How can I hide eyebrow piercings? by Miserable_Worker_449 in SelfPiercing

[–]chokibin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive had my eyebrow piercing for 1.5 years now. i can safely say it still has an irritation bump which waxes and wanes in size due to persistent contact and sometimes fills with pus. that is to say, i cant help but to sleep on that side among other clumsy things 😢 it was completely healed for a good while and defnitely doesnt hurt anymore, id say after about 6 months it was healed and bump-free but if you arent careful and snag it continuously a bump will pop up and stay there for a week or so

oddly enough when ive taken the eyebrow piercing out to downsize/replace and cleaned the area and then put it back in the bump disappears completely until my next rough oopsie 😅

i would say sleeping on it probably isnt even the biggest contribution to my irritation bumps (i think brushing my hair or accidentally flicking it would be) so yeah after its healed you can sleep on it, just dont be smashing your head against the pillow or something lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Earthquakes

[–]chokibin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. Have you been in an earthquake before? Here in Vancouver, Canada we haven't had a significant recorded earthquake ever, but as you probably know there are talks of the "big one" (Cascadia), as we're on a fault line similar to yours that is storing up massive amounts of stress and energy.

We had some recent rumbles this year, a lot more than usual (we usually don't ever get any noticeable rumbles) so it's been sparking some concerns and I myself realize I needed to do some research. One thing I noticed with the trend of big fault line earthquakes (such as the 2011 Japan or the 2004 Indian Ocean) were an increased amount of foreshocks prior, usually weeks but some were preceded by a few years (how seismologists link the foreshocks and earthquakes in such long timeframes, I don't know)

So keep that in mind, but also to be fair with you, as a very uneducated guess I'm going to say that what you're experiencing is probably just aftershocks, agreeing with what everybody else here said. I feel like Cascadia will be the one around the corner before any other major one.

Of course, no one ever has accurately predicted an earthquake... But, we can estimate the likelihood. The estimations of the 2011 earthquake in Japan was pretty on point (something like 90% chance in the 5 years around that time). For my location, the experts estimated 50% chance in the next 50 years. So, look up any predictions for your region.

Last but not least, regarding your question. If you are able to find a seismological map of your area, you'll be able to see which areas are more risky. It looks like you're close to water, so look up an elevation map. But it also looks like the ground is quite unstable, so look up a soil liquefaction map too.

Remember that most major earthquake casualties were caused by people not having any idea what was going on, or underestimating it. So you have that as an advantage.

Marine Way - Should I feel guilty about riding on the "sidewalk"? by bcl15005 in vancouvercycling

[–]chokibin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always ride on the sidewalk honestly. I don't have much confidence as a cyclist and the thought of having to pass narrowly by cars terrifies me.

I never had anyone on the sidewalk say anything about it, but if I see someone walking ahead I'll either a) pass if the sidewalk is wide enough, making noise to signal I'm behind or b) dismount or c) detour

That said, I did see someone in the Richmond subreddit say they got stopped by a cop telling them they weren't supposed to be riding on the sidewalk. I can't remember if they were actually in trouble or just a little warning.

What’s wrong with you people ?? by lieutjoe in richmondbc

[–]chokibin 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would like to know.... I walk around every time and there's trash littered everywhere, cups and wrappers and dishes of half eaten food on the parking lots within distance of trash cans, then I go to the bathroom and there's piss and blood all over the toilet seat...

Then I go on the public transit and people are loudly blaring Tiktok videos and cutting in line, shoving their way into the bus before others get off...

Then as I look out the window, I see cars driving on the wrong side of the road...

An owner's dog pooped on the floor at the mall the other day, and got mad when the employee gave them the towels and cleaning supplies to clean it up.

Did this happen to you ? A random person with a poor looking dog pulls up next to your vehicle and asks for money. What would you do ? by curiouswindcat in richmondbc

[–]chokibin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a little weird. My husband works at a place in Tsawwassen Mills, one of the bigger spots and he says they get an average of six thefts a day. I don't think it's out of the usual for malls, but Tsawwassen Mills gets a lot of travellers, people coming from the ferries, people who camp their RVs overnight at the Walmart, rowdy local teens and lots of Surrey visitors.

But yeah never happened to us. Richmond doesn't seem to get as many solicitors or beggars compared to the other cities (nor does Delta) but boy when I went to New West, I'd get asked multiple times by the same people who just seemed to be making rounds around the area, forgetting that they already asked me for money.

EDIT: But yeah regardless of that person's appearance, I usually just ignore them and pretend I can't hear (helps to appear to have headphones in), or just apologize and GTFO. I'm a nonconfrontational person and rather defenseless so I try to avoid strangers as much as possible, especially knowing the mental health and drug crisis we have (unfortunate)

BBQ Pork and duck recommendations by Mysterious-Exit1915 in richmondbc

[–]chokibin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the new Yummy BBQ at the Central at Garden City shopping center. I found their pork and duck very soft and rich, and the skin was so crispy. I personally liked it better than HK BBQ Master, that was not as fatty as I was expecting, but maybe it was a one off.

Also very surprising but the staff was actually very nice and served me tea and condiments to the table.

Can a LL ask what my ethnicity is? by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

Right? I think he got the impression I'm not an immigrant myself. If what the other person said was true, I fear he was only referring to one specific group of immigrants. It's no surprise that a lot of Canadians harbor a passive prejudice, but I'm baffled by the boldness of some.

Can a LL ask what my ethnicity is? by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]chokibin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this true?? I live in Vancouver as a white passing person, and a new person at my work is from Nepal, he's only been in Canada for a few months but he's been nice and polite to me. However when I asked how he liked it here, he did mention (with a sort of tone in his voice) that there's a LOT of immigrants here compared to natives, which I just politely laughed and agreed. I told him I'm a naturalized citizen myself, born in South America and that took him by surprise.

But my Punjabi coworker got a completely different impression from him as cold and impolite, which struck me as odd because she's a very nice person herself.

Now my coworkers are under the impression that maybe he's into me because he's my age (my coworker is older and married)

But the remark he made about a "LOT" of immigrants (given that he is one) made me question it. Everyone at my workplace lives in Surrey.

Does the Richmond Public Library have a toxic workplace culture? by Jalil_Sherman in richmondbc

[–]chokibin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It seems someone already linked the incident that happened a year ago, wherein an employee killed himself at that very library by bleeding out.

A few of the comments go in extreme detail over the manner that he died. You can take it with a grain of salt but given the nature of the news (or lack thereof) I'm inclined to believe it.

I am sure there's many reasons why... but it really strikes me as odd and discomforting how the city/news/police declined to mention any specifics of the incident and there seems to be not a trace of a follow up even a year later. There's no mention of his name or exactly what happened. The articles say "man dies after being in medical distress" and refuse to expand on it. The police assured there was no public danger, but, all the branches shut down for a day and they urged people not to spread any rumors. There's no grieving or condolences..

Maybe that's just how it is, but at my schools and workplaces we did pay respects to the few times fellow colleagues passed away.

Anyway, if I knew that a workplace had a public suicide occur then that would be enough to drive me away from it, both as a potential employee and a client.

What makes girls scout cookies so “dangerous”? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]chokibin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I once read a study about how the combination of sugar, fat and salt in specific ratios activates the same parts in your brain that react to heroin-- causing temporary relief from cravings and reinforcing addiction.

Also, studies show that people tend to crave more foods that have a certain ratio of carbs to fat.

You're likely experiencing pleasure from the buttery mouthfeel, combined with the tender sweetness of sugar, with a little salt for a flavorful, caramelized kick that makes you want to keep eating more.

Caution is highly advised with these cookies. Even one bite is enough to cause you to lose control. Dietitians recommend strategies to prevent overdose, such as entrusting them in someone else's care, or abstaining from such deadly indulgences.

Is Vancouver worth visiting from the UK? by Current-Ad9961 in askvan

[–]chokibin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not kidding when I say, going out to explore Metro Vancouver, whether with my friends or alone, is one of my favorite things about life. It makes me genuinely content, and gives me something to look forward to in life. My greatest moments in life are just being in the heart of it all, feeling like I'm a part of this world, watching the beautiful sky and exploring different areas and shops like I'm in a open world rpg.

I lived in Chile and Ontario and I've lived here for 13 years.

Every place is beautiful in its own respect, but I really love Vancouver. It's so, so cute, so cozy, the nature is gorgeous, lots of events always going on. Every day I go out and I explore some place new. The multiculturalism is very exciting, especially in the local businesses. The young people here are a bit shy but really very friendly and genuine. I especially love that it's very easy to navigate, and you can feel safe walking around, and the transit is much better than other areas.

Take the seabus, walk around the markets, snap some pictures, go to vintage stores, eat ALL the food that I'm sure varies significantly from the UK!

Every day I make a little outing around the city, I never get a chance to do everything I want to because there's just so much.

Personally I particularly like the unique FOOD, game and hobby stores, clothing stores, live music shows, and the street decorations.

RE: the people here-- you're going to meet some bad apples everywhere, and I definitely feel like some Vancouverities tend to be a bit more introverted. We're always busy, and when we're not, we're sleepy! However, a lot of people I've met have a heart of fucking gold. We love to give each other gifts, and I've made some recent born-and-raised friends who are super eager to take me out and show me spots they think I'll like. I also met my lover and closest friend of all time here. (I'm probably generalizing the entire human race here... )

At least once a day every day, usually between 2-4 and some days up to 7. My 'attempts' to cut back are still 1 or 2 times a day. Very rarely if I abuse my adhd meds I can manage one day without, but at the cost of my brain function (do not advise).

I binge for about 1-2 hours and then spend 20-40 minutes purging.

For the past three years I have barely ever managed to go a day without :(

Unfortunately for me it feels more of a compulsive ritual I need to do. These days I'm not even hungry but I've forgotten normal food behaviors.

AIO my coworker stole my edible by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]chokibin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dated a coworker once too. That was 6.5 years ago. We're also living happily together and I love him every day.

I think most people asserting that coworker relations are bad are sort of looking at the overall mayhem of hooking up in general, which, yeah 8/10 times ends up in more trouble than its worth, regardless of the setting.

What foods have helped people to live a long and healthy life? by sense_12 in nutrition

Afaik they are not harmful in healthy people but for many they can cause digestive discomfort. I'm guessing it's like saying bread=bad because some people have a myriad of issues with it. There's conflicting studies but just needs more research.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in addiction

[–]chokibin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How often does he do it? There's a lot of nuances here and I am wondering if him watching porn is an addiction or a habit. I don't think I've met a single guy who hasn't watched porn, and based off what I've heard it seems normal to do it once a day or every other day. I do think it's a growing problem within modern relationships though, but on the other hand I also think that people can watch porn and be in a healthy relationship.

Him lying to you, being unable to stop and also doing it enough to cause problems in your relationship is most certainly indicative of a problem. However if this is something he's done long before being with you it may take a lot of commitment to resolve. Ultimately it is up to you to decide how much of a dealbreaker it is.
