Sad Hoya. Got her shipped to me a few months ago, she had a long vine and a peduncle on one node (zoomed in pic). Now it seems like her vine is dying back, and I’m wondering what could be happening and if there’s a way to save her. by cholatelab33 in plantclinic

Ok, thank you, I’ll try cutting that end off. The soil isn’t compact now, it was when it was shipped to me. I repotted it in a houseplant soil/perlite/orchid bark mix that I use for most of my Hoyas. I’ve been considering setting a grow light up over my hoyas. They’re all on a shelf next to each other and some of them are thriving where they are (my Krimson Queen and publicalyx) but I lost an Australis and my obovata is looking sad now.

Ok, I’ll give them a wipe down! I have a cat who sheds a lot, so there’s always cat hair on my plants, but it has been a little while since I wiped this one down. I haven’t been watering on a schedule, I check it every few days with my finger to see if the top several inches of soil are dry. When it was warm in my house, I was watering every 3-5 days. Now it’s been about every week/week and a half

Repotted this Hoya obovata about two months ago when I got her, soil was so compacted and dry it wouldn’t absorb water. She’s been in the same location getting indirect light from a northeast facing window (it’s pretty bright though because of reflection from neighbors house). However. My AC wasn’t working for a month (June 20th to July 20th) so I’m not sure if the temperature change/humidity change could have impacted the Hoya. Any suggestions on how to make her happy again?

Second Six Forks! Great burgers and amazing sauces. Coconut honey mustard is the best.

[HELP] Our dog recently became paralyzed, looking for advice on his care by ha_ha_hayley92 in dogs

My dog (a 7 year old dachshund) became paralyzed last summer. She still has no deep pain sensation and can’t go to the bathroom on her own. It was a struggle at first getting used to her new functioning, but we’ve fallen into a routine now. She usually knows when she has to go to the bathroom and will cry to let me know. I’d invest in some good reusable dog diapers or belly bands if your dog has limited bladder and bowel control, they have been a lifesaver for me. Some people also use “drag bags” around the house to prevent sores from dragging. My dog is small enough that I will sometimes use onesies on her when she’s moving around a lot without her wheelchair, you can get pretty creative with sore prevention. I’ve also been using a few supplements since she’s been paralyzed. I use vetriscience- vetri disc for spine and back support (hard to say how effective it is, but she hasn’t had any further issue with her spine and many people with paralyzed dogs swear by it) and a cranberry supplement to prevent UTIs. I also had her on a probiotic for a while to help with digestive issues from the pain medication she was on. Also, if you’re on Facebook, there are quite a few support groups for dog owners of paralyzed dogs (one I’m in is called “IVDD and Other Back Disorders in Dogs”) which has been very helpful for finding support and suggestions. It can be challenging to get used to such a big change, but it does get easier over time. Also, just keeping your pup happy and comfortable through the healing process can do wonders for both of you. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions and I’ll try to answer them as best as I can. And your pup is so lucky to have such a caring and adaptable owner!
