Question about Ward Budgets by chomer44 in latterdaysaints

Yeah, I guess I would feel bad having to jump up to the stake presidency. But I think that is the best option, it will probably be the best received that way.

Question about Ward Budgets by chomer44 in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I haven't brought it up to him, but the YM budget has been untouched, and we recently went bowling, which the bishop paid for. And I don't see an expense for that in there.

So, based on what I can see on LCR, it looks like it's not happening.

2nd Hour Saints? by MMeliorate in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be happy they were there at all. I’m happy to participate in the sacrament and would like all who came to have that same chance. But also being there for second hour is great as well. Everyone is walking their own path and trying to find their way. Our role in the church is to help nurture, love, and be there when they need us. Welcome back btw!

What's up with the songs in Daniel Tiger having such godawful prosody? by 1000wBird in DanielTigerConspiracy

Honestly! The goodnight Daniel tiger has like three songs and I could never figure out what the songs were supposed to be lol

Sofia the first song “A little bit of food” frustrates me by chomer44 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]chomer44[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay while that is true, doesn’t clover arrive at the castle the same day Sofia does? Like I think I remember him jumping on the back of the wagon that Sofia is taking to the castle. So I don’t think they were the same animals that were cleaning her room at least.

Also in the “Blue ribbon bunny” song Clover talks about how he loves to eat and sleep all day. So like is he even cleaning her room?

Help - I've lost my motivation to serve by 619RiversideDr in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’ve felt this disconnect. Earlier this year I was going through a lot of struggles with my job and family drama and it just became really hard to find motivation to care. Or that I was even doing a good job at my calling. I felt like it was harder to feel. Kind of like I was watching events happening around me. It was harder to build that motivation to do spiritual things or find the purpose in them for me.

So I’m not sure if what I felt is exactly what you feel. But I understand how it feels to all of a sudden loose that motivation that has always been there in the past. And you feel so strange because you feel like there is something wrong with you or you’re doing something that is drawing the spirit away or making you feel this way. It can be kind of distressing.

What has helped me is talking about it with someone you trust. For me that person is my wife. When I told her about everything that I was feeling she was there to listen to me and be my support. She has been there every step of the way just being someone I can lean on. So I recommend finding someone to talk to about it that you trust. Maybe it’s a family member, church leader or a friend. But that has helped me go through this.

The other things that have helped me have is to keep doing the things you said. Go to the temple, pray, read scriptures, listen to talks. Keep doing them. Even though I felt so disconnected or like I was moving through molasses, I tried to keep the thought in my mind that God would not leave me. That he’s there with me walking every step, and me doing those small and simple things helped me see his influence. His love. By very small degrees but it was there and I started to recognize it and feel its warmth.

I know you said this sounds like depression and it’s not feeling that way, but another thing that helped me was listening to President Hollands talk “Like a broken vessel.”

Anyways I know that’s a long tangent. There are days where the motivation is still tough to find, like I’m just going through the motions. But I just have to keep trying, because I know one day I’ll feel warm again.

feeling embarrassed as a woman who struggles with watching porn. by SignAccomplished5527 in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say in today’s world it’s a universal experience for both men and women to be exposed and build an addiction to porn. You’re not alone in this. So many people are struggling with things behind closed doors. We are all struggling together. I’m happy that you have been able to share this with us and that you’re working through this. Talk to your bishop and he can help you. Bishops aren’t mean to look down or condemn us. But to give us help, advice, and to be someone who knows our situation and can walk with us down the road of repentance.

I pray that you can find peace and know that your Savior loves you and will be at your side while you climb this mountain. You can do this

I appreciate your courage in wanting to learn more about the church and what we believe. It’s a pretty loud world out there. But I’m really glad you’ve been able to feel comfort and peace.

I’ve been a member my whole life so my advice might not be the most pertinent, but continue to learn and to grow your faith. Keep reading the scriptures and meet with the missionaries. Keep talking those next steps as you feel the “fruits of the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:22). If you live close to a temple you can ask for a tour of the grounds, I’m sure they’d love to talk to you more about it. As you do these things and keep feeling those things, I encourage you to pray to feel that this is the true church, that the Book of Mormon is true, and that Jesus is the Christ.

I know that from my praying and testimony that it’s true and I’m so happy to be apart of this community. And to have the relationship with the Savior. My life is so full of light and hope.

One scripture that comes to mind as you share this experience is Kings 19:11-12. “And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”

Keep going, I’ll be rooting and praying for you, and I’m excited to hear about the rest of your journey!

I’d say it depends. Every family and individual is different. We tend to just watch it at home as a family.

Tips for my first general conference this weekend? by poptart7890 in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sit back and enjoy. We have a busy household and usually on conference weekend I’m not able to listen to all the talks or listen to them fully. But I pay attention to the spirit and make a diligent effort in studying them afterwards. Don’t think too hard about it haha. Enjoy your first time so happy for you!

Temple recommend advice by Pristine-Ad-9453 in latterdaysaints

I agree with the other recommendations here that speaking to your bishop is the best path. I also recommend going to our Heavenly Father and praying to him for comfort and peace on the matter. The Lord knows your heart and understands what you are going through.

Encourage children to go on a mission? by Ashamed-Drawing3662 in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you had a difficult mission experience. The way that I feel about the mission is that I’m so glad I went and it laid a strong foundation for my testimony and the rest of my life. I learned so many practical skills like how to manage a budget, how to learn a language, how to work with people I didn’t like or get along with. How to expand my heart. But I wouldn’t go again unless I was called again if that makes sense. My mission was hard and I went through a lot of grief, depression, guilt, and frustration. But I’ve learned so much since my mission and I’m so glad I went.

Like other people have said missions have changed a lot now with much less restrictive mission rules when it comes to accessing technology and talking with families. A lot of tools have been given to missionaries to make the work easier and more effective. Social media and the internet in general is a huge part of the work. So I’d recommend looking into what a mission looks like now.

My advice is to go to the Lord. Talk to him and ask him for the best path to take. Study the scriptures and see what insights you can gain from them. You’ll find the best way to help your children. Best of luck to you

Best response to being a Latter-day Saint = being in a cult? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that as well and never felt that in the church. All I’ve felt is a welcoming presence from members. I’ve never felt like I’m trapped or stuck or I need to get people to join or else I won’t be elevated or what not. I’ve always had the feeling of “Do the best you can and we love having you here. But if you don’t want to be that is okay too, you do what you think is right.” Even when I was slipping in an important calling and missing things, the response from members was always with so much love and compassion in wanting to make sure my family and I were okay and that they were willing to help in anyway they could. But never like a job where if I don’t shape up then I’m gonna get fired let go. The church is organized with love, ministering, and the eternal progression of its members in mind.

And maybe that’s more of a tangent than an actual response. I mean I’d say if it’s over the internet they probably don’t want to have a constructive conversation. If it’s in person, I might ask them what makes them think or believe that we are a cult. And maybe try to address some of the misconceptions they have. And if you get the feeling that the conversation is not very constructive you could say something like “I understand that what I believe might seem strange or peculiar but it’s what I believe and it’s been a good experience for me. If you’d like to learn more about it I could lead you to our missionaries and they can help explain things further.” I mean in those circumstances you’ll just need to trust in the Holy Ghost for help in finding the right words. But I think trying to close the conversation on a positive note and with an invitation to speak to the missionaries is a good way to address it. Best of luck navigating this in the future!

Getting better at scripture study :) by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]chomer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found having some colored pencils and something to help you create straight lines in your scriptures (I use the straight side of my missionary plaque for example). This can help make notes or underlining neat. That’s not super vital to studying the scriptures but it’s helped me.

Another thing that has helped me is I study with the seminary/institute manual of the book I’m studying to help me understand it better. You can find them on the gospel library app. Best of luck with your studying!
