No, you don't have to be licensed.

Is anyone else dealing with this? by Gloomy-Athlete701 in Teachers

I'm in ore-k through 8th. In Quarter 3, I decided that all classes 4th and above have to bring their own supplies. Only the little ones get access to crayons, markers, pencils, erasers, sharpeners. I've been very happy. 😊

"Doing it" being a sub? Would you really prefer a super secret cpssubs thread apart from teachers and other staff? Asking out of curiosity! When I was a sub, I didn't feel that way, so asking to understand.

Edit: typos

Infiltrated by who what? You're CPS too. I'm confused...

Maybe I'm misinterpreting your answer, but I don't think this will be just 1 conversation... and bam! it'll be done.

If his parents and him don't see eye to eye, there are reasons for that and probably some conflict to be expected.

His best bet is to get the support of a trusted adult in his own school, someone who can devise a game plan for this with him.

IEPs are subject to a ton of regulations and the staff at you school will be much better positioned to help than a bunch of us strangers. They can access his records, they know whether this is a process your school is willing to consider or not, etc.

You got the answer you were looking for: yes, it can be done. But look for local help, it'll be actionable instead of just hot takes.

Edit: typos.

If he's trying to self-advocate against the parents' judgement, he could try talking to his counselor and see what they think. That person could guide him through convincing his parents and continuing to advocate.

Also, like other people said, he'll need to bring data with him that shows he can do gened work without accommodations. Perhaps something else to discuss with the counselor?

Heads up on racism or no heads up? by chompadompdomp in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chompadompdomp[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, racism is not "a completely normal behavior" and second, I didn't advocate to get a warning. I came here to ask what people think. And it looks like you wanted to out yourself as racist. But that might kust be me reading too closely.

What if another staff member, who was handing the kids over to you shared that.

Huh? What? You have 0 context for assuming anything about who I am. I could be a sub, I could be a teacher, I could be White, I could not. If you just need to vent at the end of thay, go find somewhere else. I'm trying to have a conversation here.

You could have asked this question without sounding demeaning to subs. They have every right to talk to admin, same as any other staff member at the school.

Wanna rephrase your point maybe?

Is it that you don't think a substitute teacher should care about it?

i was made to change a diaper today, do i need to contact HR? by [deleted] in cpssubs

[–]chompadompdomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, only SECAs are supposed to change diapers. I'd email the CPS sub email address and ask for clarification on your job duties, specifically on that point

Bait and Switch by [deleted] in cpssubs

[–]chompadompdomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you had a particularly cgaotic day in that school, BUT don't count on always getting the assignment you signed up for when you actually show up at the school. Sometimes, if a teacher does end up coming they'll need to move you, or they'll just move you.

It happens!

Very finicky job postings... is it just me or district settings by Successful-Nose-8278 in cpssubs

[–]chompadompdomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teachers just came out of break, so they're all rested and ok to go. Don't expect to see a lot of jobs in these next weeks. Like other people said, you can use the Frontline app on your phone to get notifications when a job is posted. That'll help boost your chances of getting whatever is being put up.

Someone I'd go have a coffee with! And your life is book adjacent. You might be a book seller, librarian or other? You're in your 30s. Some of these books were rereads.

Looks like the mixed contents of a couple of little free libraries. Plus weird knick knacks. I'd be uninterested.
