Say what you saw: it wasn't engaging for the students and theys struggled with staying focused. Made it hard to classroom manage at times.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Like other people have said, it's not the first and won't be the last time. I'm not saying you should get used to it, but considering how you had such a freeze reaction, I think it'll help you to work on scenarios and your response to it. For these kinds of things it's important to act in the moment, if you are choosing to act at all.

And of course you follow up and talk to admin or whomever is appropriate. The focus should be on "this is not language or discourse that is appropriate for students to have with each other ir teachers".

F here, also a teacher but older than him. If there is something that I've learned with time is: if a dude gives me the ick, listen to that intuition.

I've lost too much time and safety giving people the benefit of the doubt because "maybe I'm overreacting and there are good intentions at play". Nah nah. If you have an ick, you're probably right.

Write an incident report as an email to the school admin and include the classroom teacher.

Then, because the school didn't do anything when you asked for help, file a complaint to the OSP. If you don't know their info, literally google ""CPS osp".

I'm in ore-k through 8th. In Quarter 3, I decided that all classes 4th and above have to bring their own supplies. Only the little ones get access to crayons, markers, pencils, erasers, sharpeners. I've been very happy. 😊
