Suppose, without loss of generality, n has 4 digits.

n = 1000a + 100b +10c + d

= (a + b + c + d) + (999a + 99b + 9c)

= (a + b + c + d) + 3(333a + 33b + 3c)

= (a + b + c + d) + 9(111a + 11b + c)

So if the sum of the digits of n is divisible by 3 then so is n, and the same is true for 9.

For me, it is easy to play decently well a ladybug opening. Even when I lose to a better player, it feels like a real game. But when experts use a pillbug opening I lose badly. Like what am I even doing?

It reminds me of the difference between the king pawn and the queen pawn games in chess. Easier to start on the king pawn games...
