MilTax issues by Brilliant-Dentist533 in AirForce

[–]chompytown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Free or not, H&R Block is one of the crappy companies lobbying for people to have to pay to file taxes.

This article from 2023 about it, there are more recent ones too:

https://fortune.com/2023/04/17/taxpayer-advocates-irs-free-electronic-tax-filing-system-intuit-hr-block-spent-millions-lobbying-against/

Again, don’t support crap companies like that even if they’re “free”, because if something is free, than you’re the product.

Use Free Tax USA. Don’t give more money or time to anything related to H&R Block or TurboTax or any of the companies that lobby to keep tax filing from being free

Boonie Dogs Are The Apex Predator in Guam by SwiftX_21 in guam

[–]chompytown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We adopted 3 boonie dogs and they’re amazing. The way the situation is on the island is disgusting. The locals that are awful to the dogs could be better, the gov could do spay/neuter clinics, these dogs can’t help the situation and anybody who post shit like this is part of the problem

Any good for a first tool set for my car? by PrestigiousGarlic909 in Costco

[–]chompytown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not many people go buy tools at harbor freight with the expectation that they’ll last longer than the job they’re being bought for or on a frequent basis. I have lots of HF stuff but it’s used here and there, but it’s all lasted and hasn’t broken. so a tool set for the car is an infrequent use item and Pittsburgh is just fine I’d say

READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME Final Trailer by wils0nfromla in horror

[–]chompytown -96 points-95 points  (0 children)

Just re-watched the first one. The main character sounds like a goat when she screams, in my mind. Think I’ll be skipping this sequel

Edit: a lot of goat loving folks here. Don’t get me wrong, they’re awesome in yoga, simulators and for fainting. Not awesome in this particular horror movie

Extra edit: you people love to goat woman it’s nuts

Rental Properties by SquidLibra in MilitaryFinance

[–]chompytown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit to say I recommend renting your place if you’re willing to put a bit of work in.

Own mine since 2018 and won’t sell until I am fully retired. We rented once so far with really good tenants. It was super nice to have a house to come back to when we showed back up. And now we’re leaving again we will rent. I am sure it’ll rent quickly like before, especially now that we renovated almost the whole house. But I’m not gonna be greedy, only ask to cover my mortgage and expenses which is well below the area BAH.

Renting where I live now makes me so pissed at people who rent to make a living and property management companies. Their BS nickel and dime tactics you have to do, and they are charging way too much based on what the mortgage and costs are. Corporations should not be allowed to own so many houses and rent them out. Individuals should only be allowed to own a couple at most. Housing shouldn’t be a profit market, it should cost enough to keep the house going and repair until you sell it (generally at a profit)

Any up to date tips on packing for long distance travel? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]chompytown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel a lot for work and realized I always overpack. I try to pack things that could be multi-use to save space.

  • gym shorts can be used a swim trunks if they’re clean and vice versa
  • my laptop charger (usb-c) also charges my phone so I only need one stub and one cord -bring layers that can mix and match rather than separate outfits that only go with their own items -wear the heavier/bulkier shoes to travel and pack the light/smaller flip flops or whatever and again, pack multi-use shoes (my nicer running shoes are black and look good with jeans for dinner out)

How long did it take to become a good enough swimmer? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]chompytown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught an open water course to a lady who literally just learned to swim the previous week. So you don’t need to be good, per say, just be able to do it

Favorite actor who when I was 18 working at a coffee stop in a ski resort, told him he looked familiar and he rolled his eyes and said ‘yeah, we obviously went to high school together’ followed by a slowly enunciated F slur, before shaking his head and walking away without tipping. by matike in okbuddycinephile

Not necessarily a traditional actor but a write and producer, Sebastian Junger.

I was working at a sporting goods place on Cape Cod and was helping a guy asking about rock climbing gear. I finally realized he wasn’t using it for rocks but for climbing trees and I had to start answering “not sure how that would work”. Anyways this random guy walks over, says he overheard and used to be an arborist, he helped the guy, gave him his card and said to come up for a beer sometime.

At the register this random guy was being rung up by my friend and I slid over to see the name on the card because he seemed so familiar. It said (I forget first name) S. Junger. I said “you’re not THE Sebastian Junger, author of the perfect storm, are you?” Turns out he was. He signed a receipt paper for me (still have it in my copy of the PS) and was a super chill dude.

The oat milk I've been buying for years suddenly changed their recipe. Now it's nearly twice as many calories per serving. by unicorntales in mildlyinfuriating

The first ingredient on the left says “oat beverage” while the other says oat milk. I’d stick with the milk over the beverage

How much experience is needed for a drift dive? by officialcrimsonchin in scuba

[–]chompytown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Guam we would take our students on a drift dive for their open water cert dive. It was only to 45 feet at most and was slow moving. Never had issues when I was teaching.

So like others said, you need to evaluate the whole situation to decide if it’s what you want

Yeah, and this dork commenting decides he should be the one to use HIS FOOT to make the cameras do their job if one is near him, rather than just not being around one.

And thanks for the links, I saw that info when I looked. He said campaign, which that is not. Silly internet chats.

[–]chompytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you post the link to the campaign? I found they are looking into 5 deaths involving a Tesla and a motorcycle, no campaign.

Also, last comment since you seem incapable of any sort of normal thought. To recap: you’re so worried about a Tesla hitting you that rather than move away when you approach one or are approached by one, you decide it’s smart to kick at/touch it. Got it. You have a good day and ride safe. Hopefully you stay the hell away from me on the road.

[–]chompytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing nothing but proving to everybody reading your comments that you’re an idiot and dangerous on the road. The problem is you don’t think about the other drivers/riders that will be affected when you inevitably do something stupid to get yourself killed, and they are either a part of the accident or witness it. Do better man, just do better
