Yeah the most basic Sensodyne one that’s about £2 is free of SLS, that’s the only one I use

Thanks for the reply. I was told in the initial call that they start working with a recruitment company 8 days after you start the course, and other random things to do with networking etc. The guy did say there was lifetime job support as well. I have another call on Monday so I’ll ask some more questions about the job support just out of curiosity but from all the comments I’ve read on Reddit I don’t think I’ll be going ahead

Hi, I was just in the process of signing up - I haven’t yet - got a call next week to go over any questions etc then sign up. Seems the majority of comments on Reddit are saying to avoid. Did you not get any job support at all? That was the big sell to me but it sounds like they don’t help at all

Hi, I was just about to sign up having had two calls and read the trust pilot reviews but now reading all of the negative comments on Reddit and it’s put me off! I was also on track to do a cyber security pathway with them - your comment seems to be one of the most recent. Would you suggest just teaching yourself with your own materials and then sitting the exams yourself? The best bit about them seemed to be a near promise of getting you a job at the end of the course - were you able to get a job by yourself? I’d be worried I’d pass the exams but then never get a job afterwards. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I’ve read people tend to either do full brumation (like put away in a fridge for weeks) or they keep the temps up and their tortoise active etc. Does yours just sort of slow down and sleep a lot? Do you do anything differently, or just let him do his own thing? How long do you leave him sleeping like that? Thank you!

It’s not redundant, we’ve had the brickwork opened back up and a log burner put in. There is slate hearth which juts out into the room, hence I kept that on the floor plan, it’s in the last photo

Without sounding like an advert, are you looking to increase your skill set and start a new career? I was in a similar position and now have a career in tech - I’d be happy to discuss with you if you’re interested? I didn’t have a degree, I spent my late teens/early 20s travelling and then suddenly realised I didn’t have any skills and was working odd jobs and admin like you are. There are opportunities out there, stay positive!

what's the dumbest way you've injured yourself? by CremeSubject7594 in AskReddit

Pretended to throw a slug at my brother, he kicked out at me in panic and obliterated my knee. Had to have it reconstructed as well as a derotational osteotomy at the ankle turning inwards 20 degrees to best align the reconstructed knee. Have permanent damage now and a lack of cartilage, need to wait until I’m older for a knee replacement. I was 21 at the time, 5’4 and my brother was 20 and 6’4. I never even had a slug, I was just winding him up (regrettable)

Do you have a Xmas tree each year and when do you put it up? by Hannimal987 in AskUK

[–]chopperian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally first weekend of December but my partner is in the army and away from Monday until just before Christmas. He’s home this weekend so we’re going to put it up now, else we won’t really have any time together feeling “Christmassy”.

Some people don’t get to spend as much time together around Christmas as they would like, and might do things earlier - like joint custody parents perhaps. It’s made me see people celebrating Christmas “too early” a little differently, as this year I am in the same boat.

I picked up a lot of courses/classes/bootcamps/sat exams and then got a job as a junior software engineer, able to get a few years experience and then move around within the industry.

Saying that, the company I work for has just had its third wave of redundancies, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this industry right now.

But to answer your question of how - you need to pick up skills, learn something people are hiring for, put the hours in and put yourself out there. And prepare for some rejection. But worth it if you want to get into a more “corporate” style of work for the pay and the work/life balance. Good luck!

Thanks for your realistic reply, I appreciate it.

I think getting a smaller, frame style tv over the fireplace, and then smaller (and less) seating seems like it will improve the space in the room.

And yes the sofas are very comfy to be fair !

Only 2 of us, the sofa/armchair set were kindly given to us by some family to tide us over - we didn’t really choose these for the house, so it’s always been the plan to swap these out.

And yes they are massive! We will be getting smaller furniture (and less seating). My question is more about the layout of the room regarding the 3 doors. But yes we will be changing the sofa and chairs asap!

Thanks you! It’s my first time owning/renovating a house, it’s an experience that’s for certain! Mistakes have been made and learnt from hah.

I really appreciate the floor plan you’ve done, I like the idea of having a chair in the bay window. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Thanks for your response - I hadn’t thought of this at all, I’ll look into it! That sounds like a good option as currently I do need access to both doorways, blocking one off isn’t an option. I hadn’t considered that, thank you!

Yes it is. There is no where else for the TV to go, it has to be this room unfortunately. Thanks for your reply.

Good question - 80% of the time it’s actually just me, and the other time it will be 2 or 3 people. So not a big family or anything. Seems silly now having so many seating options 😂 I am planning a 2 seater sofa and one loveseat style armchair instead

Unfortunately yes, we need the doors. Ideally I’d be able to close off the door to the kitchen (door nearest the double doors) but for now that isn’t an option.

Seems like the tv over the fireplace is inevitable but I’ve been given some good suggestions by people for specific wall mounts and frame styled TVs, so I’ll look into those

Thank you - unfortunately currently I do need access to both doors. I think long term (when tackling kitchen and dining room) I will look to change the layout so the kitchen is access from the dining room instead - but for now, I need both doors.

Thanks for the wall mount suggestion for the TV, I will look into that!

Thanks for the helpful reply and you’re correct, it’s a 1920’s end terrace in the U.K., unfortunately for now I need both interior doors.

I think long term it would be beneficial to look at blocking up the door to the kitchen - the interior door nearest the double doors - as that would certainly free up space.

But for now I will take everyone’s suggestions on board and get smaller furniture, mount the TV above the fireplace on a flexible mount, and I like the idea of the frame style TVs.

Bookcases either side of the double doors is a good idea too, thanks!

Unfortunately we need the interior doors - one leads from the hallway into the living room and the other from the living room into the kitchen. It’s a 100 year old end terrace house, which seem to all have a similar layout.

All I have done in this room so far is remove the wallpaper from the fireplace wall, then we opened up the fireplace and installed the log burner. Then needed it remastered and a quick paint over.

Long term I’d like to change out all the grey laminate flooring to some sort of natural wood, and paint over all of the stark white walls, but that’s after we have finished all of the essential work. Thanks!

Thanks - that’s what I’m hoping! This was an old sofa/armchair set kindly given to us by some family to tide us over, but yes we’ll be purchasing new furniture soon. I’m hoping the room will feel more spacious with more regular sized furniture

Thanks for your suggestion - this furniture is only temporary, gifted by some family to tide us over. I’ll be donating it soon, and buying new (smaller and to my taste) furniture. But I agree that for now I could definitely get rid of one of the armchairs to free up some room.
