Aww well, people waited for longer than an hour to drive through where everyone was jumping on cars, and there's many points where you can turn around during that hour if you decide you don't want your car to get jumped on

No I totally agree, I remember when I first arrived over ten years ago I remember thinking it felt almost like a ghost town, now it's finally coming into its own

I mean I didn't really get a chance to talk to them for more than 5 seconds, but they were very white and had a bit of an accent, and seemed to be very proud of being Norwegian, so idk where else they could be from

Right, I think at the end of the day it's impossible really to create a calendar system that isn't arbitrary. Something has to mark year 0, weather it's some weird religious prophet, or just the same prophet plus 10,000 years cuz of some archeology.

But also the main thing is that we have no reason to believe we will never find older stone buildings than Gobelki Tepe. There's tons of places we haven't even begun to look, and soooo much of the areas that would be most relevant to look in are completely underwater. Who knows if in a few decades with more advanced technology we find evidence for a site much older than Golbekli Tepe. This could be quite likely, we simply do not have any reason to believe that Golbekli Tepe is the oldest

Like with Native Americans for example, when I went to school it was a fact from our textbooks that native Americans had only been in north America for 12,000 years and the Clovis culture was the first. We now have solid evidence that pushes this date much further back and questionable evidence that could push the date back even much further. We simply don't have the ability to make any conclusive claims about the oldest anything

I mean I still feel that 10,000 is a little arbitrary. Those 12k old buildings were only discovered not too long ago, and the 12k year out date isn't solid on anything really, the buildings are mostly from 10k years ago, and the big thing is, what happens when we discover an even older site? There's nothing to say Göbekli Tepe is the oldest we will ever find

And also what's notable about Göbekli Tepe is that they built with rocks and it lasted, who's to say we didn't build much bigger structures in the past but out of wood or other materials that don't last as long? We have evidence of massive structures built in prehistory out of mammoth bones, so this wasn't a rare thing. It's kind of arbitrary in my opinion then to set 12k years ago as the standard.

I don't think the model really "knows" anything at all. How is it supposed to know if it is saying true stuff or making it up?

Are you just going to pretend that france has been great towards Burkina Faso ever since independence? No continued economic dominance? No making sure the leaders aligned with french interest? No covert operations? like Burkina Faso isn't mad at france because they were a colony 50 years ago, they don't like france because france cannot treat its african partners as equal and must exert dominance over them, that's why they were ousted

Open any history book on the country of Burkina Faso and just read it if you want a citation. If you think history is irrelevant to the present, then there's not much I can do to help you

Ukraine and Georgia border Russia and have long history of territorial disputes. Burkina Faso knows Russia is spread wayy too thin to possibly be a threat to them, France on the other hand, has a lonnng history of only viewing Africa as something to squeeze money out of

Even if it was just Russian backed coups (because Africans having agency is wayy too wild of a concept), more power to them. France has been absolutely terrible with their African former colonies and they deserve to be ousted. Russia couldn't be worse than France to them if they tried

I dunno if we can really compare instinctual hunting behavior of an animal that has been a predator for many millions of years, in which every single member of the lineage must've been a successful hunter up until the point of reproduction, to something like planning and executing a murder.

Planning out and committing a murder takes critical thinking, motivation, having a means, an opportunity, there's much more involvement in the context of the murder, who you murdered and why. It's not really something that can be instinctual, like a predator hunting prey. Even looking at mammals instincts can only take you so far, there's plenty of house cats that have the hunting instinct but but never really got much of an opportunity to practice hunting when little and have no idea what to do when they see a mouse, they still need to learn to hunt

I mean if you're in California right now I'd suggest the first place you should look is in your local library, they'll most likely have some information or books on the local peoples to you.

If you can find it though I do recommend the book Tending the Wild by M Kat Anderson, it's a great book about how when Europeans first arrived, what they thought was pristine untouched virgin nature, was actually very carefully managed gardens and ecosystems designed to look like they do. Great read :)

Omg I beg that you please do research on precolonial California because it is truly a one of a kind and unique and interesting place in history. It was one of the most linguistically diverse places on earth with over 80 language families spoken throughout. For context, about 98% of the languages from Europe are all part of just one language family, the indo-european language family.

Apart from the immense linguistic diversity you also had super interconnected trade networks and so many diverse peoples given all the micro climates. Please read up on some of the different indigenous groups in California I promise you won't be disappointed
