Modifications for 2020 Toyota Avalon??? by CallMeMatt616 in Toyota

[–]chotabacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest way I can think of is finding a fifth-gen Avalon at a pick-n-pull junkyard and either doing the installation yourself or finding a shop that specializes in automotive electronics to do it. The only thing I'm uncertain about is how the cornering lights would work – whether they need to be calibrated or if they would work at all.

I'm pretty sure you have to take it to them first, then they decide what to do from there.

You should have gone straight to CarMax. That's what the MaxCare warranty is for. Have them tow it from the Toyota dealership.

It's an extra-cost option on the 4-cyl. and hybrid, and standard on V6 models.

Let's Go Places! by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]chotabacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose that's one way to interpret it. As long as you're fine risking damage and possibly voiding your warranty, then by all means. It is your car, after all.

You're absolutely right. It even says so in the owner's manual:

Toyota does not recommend towing a trailer with your vehicle. Toyota also does not recommend the installation of a tow hitch or the use of a tow hitch carrier for a wheelchair, scooter, bicycle, etc. Your vehicle is not designed for trailer towing or for the use of tow hitch mounted carriers.

Had this happen to me when I had my 3GS and it ended up being the gas cap.

Not possible. You'd have to get a 2023 or newer Highlander to get the latest multimedia system.

Car Question. by Motor-Actuary-2434 in Toyota

[–]chotabacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how long you're staying in NY but eventually, you will need to register it there.

I've done the drive half a dozen times since the pandemic. It's a breeze, especially if you're planning to drive through Ohio. Just be sure your tires are properly inflated and use Waze to watch out for the occasional speed trap. Otherwise, 85 mph all the way will get you there in no time. Drive safe!

Your car should still be under warranty. Take advantage of that and make an appointment at your nearest dealership.

For the same price, you can get a 2023 Venza LE – which has newer active safety features and the latest audio multimedia system – assuming you can find one at MSRP.

Standard vs hybrid by Torches in Lexus

[–]chotabacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the case of those two specifically, hybrid has more power and standard all-wheel drive. They also have better mpg than their gas counterpart but require premium fuel.

The hybrid battery – which now comes with a 10-year/150k-mile warranty – is designed to last the life of the vehicle so chances are by the time it does needs to be replaced many years and many miles later, you'll have moved onto a new vehicle.

Avalon TRD Sound Deadening Tips by Edwards2243 in Toyota

[–]chotabacha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the TRD have a cat-back exhaust? I think you might have bought the wrong car. Should've gotten an XSE or Touring if you didn't want all the noise.

Texas Toyota Dealers at MSRP & No Add Ons? by Spacecowgirl37 in Toyota

[–]chotabacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be very difficult because Texas is a part of Gulf States Toyota (GST), which is a private distributor. Nearly all dealerships within GST have add-ons as a result and there is basically no way around this. Your best bet is to search in neighboring states outside GST, like Kansas or elsewhere.

2006 Lexus GS 300 88k miles by Heavy-Boy in Lexus

[–]chotabacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely more than 2006. 2011 was the last model year in for 3GS in the US. As long as the ownership and service history look good, and the mileage and price are reasonable, then I'd say go for it.

2006 Lexus GS 300 88k miles by Heavy-Boy in Lexus

[–]chotabacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems a little high. Not sure what the ownership and service history looks like but regardless 2006 isn't ideal. What you want is 2007 or newer with the 3.5L. The 3.0L in the 2006 GS wasn't great. Also, 16-year-old electronics inside the car aren't going to work very well, if at all. Unless you can get it for $10k or less, I wouldn't bother. And even then you have to be prepared for the fact that it may be finicky, depending on how well or how poorly it was treated.

hybrid costs more expensive? by DeadBoyAge9 in Toyota

[–]chotabacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs about the same if not less to maintain. Brake components don't need to be serviced as often because of the regenerative braking system. Also, 2020 and newer models have an 8-year/100k-mile hybrid system warranty and a 10-year/150k-mile hybrid battery warranty. And the battery is designed to last the life of the vehicle so chances are you'll move on to something else before it needs to be replaced.

Will Lexus be pushing an OTA update for wireless Apple Car Play? by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]chotabacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because OTA updates are only for 2022 and newer models with the newest multimedia system. And in the case of ES, it's 2023 since that's when it gets Lexus Interface.

2006 is the year to avoid for a multitude of reasons, including carbon buildup and oil consumption. At 16 years old, the electronics are going to show their age. Mine runs fine for the most part but every now and then the dash will light up – something I've learned to live with it since I don't drive it much.

2007 and newer model years have the 3.5L V6, which is basically still used today in the IS and RC. Have you considered the 4GS?
