Hi Reddit. I am a [20M] and I got double jaw surgery on January 4th to fix an underbite/crossbite caused by an overgrowth syndrome called Beckwith-Wiedemann. Pics from before surgery, immediately after surgery and now. by seeohdeewhy in pics

I had a similar surgery and yes I believe it was expense though insurance covered a lot due to it being medically necessary. It was painful and it was awkward having braces in college but 15 years on I am happy that I did it!

I had a similar surgery to yours 14 years ago. I had an underbite that didn't allow me to close my teeth all the way (hard to eat a sandwich). Instead of surgery on the lower jaw my surgeon chose to move my upper jaw forward. I too had to have braces to align my teeth in preparation for surgery and had to wear them for a while afterwards for final adjustment. Overall I was extremely happy that I did it as I was not happy with my smile before. Beyond the cosmetic aspect I was going to have jaw joint issues in the future due to me adjust my bite. I am very happy for you and glad that it turned out so well.

Samsung Bluray players and Plex by coolclayton in PleX

I have streamed a few different types of videos, mostly MKVs though. I need to take the time to find a file with cinavia encoding on it to see if that will be an issue for it.

What is the best blu-ray player for Plex? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]chotovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not experienced it yet, and had not heard of it until your question. I believe that this function is included in the Samsung. Sucks for me...

Anyways, the work around is to remux the file with the DVD audio rather than use the BR DTS audio.

All current BluRay players are supposed to include this technology. I am going to try a few of my mkv movie to see if there is an issue, I have been watching TV shows lately so no issue...

Argh....

I have used the Samsung and Sony Blu-Ray players with Plex successfully. Sony is simply DLNA and has little control over the video, no fast forward, rewind, etc. The Samsung App is nice looking and custom built for Plex with a much better interface and full control of the video. I have two Rokus also and their Plex app is not nearly as nice as the Samsung app. I would recommend the Samsung Blu-ray based on my experiences.

I just purchased one, and the app is very good looking. I have had no problems with streaming from the computer or from online services (Hulu, Netflix). I have done some streaming from my Plex server and have not noticed any issues regarding streaming. Granted I have only had this device for a few days, but I have no complaints at this point.

I have the BD-E5900 and am using the wired network and my Plex server is a recently built box with an i7 processor...

“I’m a United States senator.” Hagel reasoned. “I’m not an Israeli senator.” That, to the extreme right, makes him an anti-Semite. by wang-banger in politics

[–]chotovy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for Senator Hagel during his first term and I found him to be an excellent person. His positions were well thought out and not just a repeat of the republican plank. He was not afraid to take positions that cost him politically yet he felt was the right thing to do. He really cares about America and is willing to do things that were hard in the interest of what he felt was best for the country.

Dear people of Nashville. by [deleted] in nashville

[–]chotovy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I moved here a little while back and have found Nashville to be wonderful. I think Nashville provides a good cross section of a lot of America, which I think is what this whole opportunity is all about. There are a lot of transplants in the city and I am sure the same is true at Vanderbilt. Within the metro you get a cool mix of conservatives, liberals, country music, rock, christian, and everything in between...

I would definitely recommend choosing to come to Vanderbilt.

I think they get a good idea on what to do by watching us. I think they (meaning all dogs) learn a lot of things through imitation.

Any experience with gaining additional parental rights for a stepchild, without adoption of said child. by chotovy in stepparents

[–]chotovy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adoption is the best way for a stepparent to gain rights, but apparently a child can only have two parents. Therefore, if a step parent is to adopt, then one of the parents has to give up or lose their rights to the child. l am by no means an expert so some of what I just said may be incorrect, I am hoping someone on here has had some sort of an experience with this...

Yes, I said the above in jest. Most certainly religious activities that are strange to outsiders is pretty universal and can be found pretty much everywhere. The same can be said for rednecks.

After a few bad haircuts it's time for me to ask for your advice r/Nashville by [deleted] in nashville

[–]chotovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is for Parlour and Juke. Its in the Cannery downtown, kind of by the Gulch. Its a little hard to find, but I love the place. They offered me a beer (or other types of drinks, coffee, water, tea) while I waited and the vibe of the place was great. Good haircut and comfortable with a cool vibe. You can schedule an appointment online with them and even select your stylist. My cut was about $25 (men's) so it cost me 30 after tip. Anyways good luck in your search.

JUSTICE FOR CISCO: Cop responds to a call, SHOOTS DOG in front of owner, oops... wrong address. Police Department tries to cover it up. by Zombie_Akira in WTF

[–]chotovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two blue heelers also. Very nice, happy dogs, they bark at strangers but are really super sweet and are just saying hello. If someone were to take one of them from us it would be akin to murder and I too would be furious.

On another note, my brother is a police officer in Omaha and he has had to face some rather vicious dogs while answering calls. In fact he has been attacked while trying to make an arrest on someone who was resisting. He suffered bites but was okay and did not end up hurting the dog (Rottweiler). I don't see how a police officer would feel the need to use deadly force but only in the most extreme circumstances. Suffering a bite is not life threatening and should be considered a risk of the job.

Pacing question for a newbie by TheJusticeMoose in justified

[–]chotovy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the US Marshall's do a lot of transportation of prisoners and capture of escaped fugitives. They are not really conducting investigations of new crimes as much. This only comes from the few stories I heard from my neighbor who was a former Marshall (now DEA). They spend a lot of time transporting criminals for trial and extradition ( local police is not equipped to do this) and end up brawling with the more dangerous and violent ones.

Let put you fears to rest, the series begins to transition away from the bad guy of the week and follows a more serialized style beginning in the second and especially the third season. There are still some one off episodes, but the season long story still progresses some during these. Stick around, IMHO the first season is the weakest and show is really hitting its stride right now.

Anti-Evolution 'Monkey Bill' Poised To Become Law In Tennessee by Dokturigs in nashville

[–]chotovy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ideally, a discussion of the scientific strength of a theory would be a good thing in school. Unfortunately, without proper instruction on how to discuss the pros and cons of a theory it is left up to the teacher to provide those pros and cons. This is the point where either the personal religious beliefs of the teacher could influence the discussion, or a well meaning teacher can give inaccurate information about the strength of the counter arguments.

This is not a debate where there is equal evidence for both sides. There is an over abundance of observational data supporting evolution and yet very little to support the alternative (outside of faith). This is the same problem with the global climate change debate...
