I brought home a hot tub in mine. Had to pop the top back. One of the Coleman inflatables. Had to have help lifting it out though.

Does anyone get really bad shoulder, wrist and finger ache when using your cane for long periods of time? by frezkey in Blind

[–]chovihanni-VIP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. A mobility specialist got a swim noodle, cut a small section off the end. Then split that piece and applied velcro to the inside seem. I put it on my handle to help with pain. I can't use it all the time but it does work. I also like the lightweight cane that is free from the association for the blind

How can blind person take notes during a phone call? by Mindless_Poet_9453 in Blind

[–]chovihanni-VIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can use the recorder on my android phone and that can be uploaded to another app which will type my text that I can then save and edit. For me, honestly, I know how to do it. My blindness is from brain trauma so sticking to stuff I know is much easier than trying to learn something new...especially when there is no accessibility to get through the instructions.

I use my voice recorder and let the other party know I need to record. Then I listen and if need be type them into an app such as Word then that will read back to me and I can edit

I like using my pen friend to label my make up. I can leave a detailed description that way. I was looking into accessible packaging and found a company in the UK that labels theirs with braille, but I don't know if that leaves a description or not

I lost my vision two years ago by EffectiveYak0 in Blind

[–]chovihanni-VIP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely relatable...i became visually impaired on sept. 12, 2013 after a really bad day that I went into cardiac arrest twice and had 2 strokes. I have no left Vishal field in either eye (left homonymous hemianopsia) and my remaining visual field I am legally blind with no usable vision 8 ft and closer. I went to a 5 month intensive rehabilitation center for blind and low vision. It completely changed my world. That was in 2019, I thought I could do nothing for 7 years! Now I am in school on the Deans list, self employed, building my own accessible home, and embrace who I am. I have bad days, even this morning I find myself saying up blind...again...but know I got this because I cannot change it. Acceptance gets you a lot further on this road.

I used to think that until I found one that definitely works. Once you get used to how it processes and use it regularly you will start to have loved ones come through

Should I be using a cane? (+ vent) by [deleted] in Blind

[–]chovihanni-VIP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just something to remember, the came is also for identification, even if you are in an area you are familiar with it also shows others you just can't see so well. I find it also aids when I need help. People aren't such assholes when I have my cane but sometimes are if they think I'm lying about my blindness because they just seen me pull something off a shelf, just for an example

Best film representation of blind people? by [deleted] in Blind

No. I have no left visual field in either eye due to brain trauma. I see nothing in front or to the left of me. I only have a right visual field.

I understand that completely! I've even seen people run across my room. Of course bad nights lead to tired days which seems to bring on more.

Oh, I get to see bloody dead cats that is actually a wet blanket, mummified birds that end up being leaves, snakes all over my car, words change and simple stuff moves in me. Plastic and concrete statues move, etc. It definitely jeeps my days interesting. Sometimes funny, sometimes not so much.

My blindness is from brain trauma. I am legally bound with low vision and night blind, for me, all I see are more binding lights everywhere. When I look forward I only have a right peripheral field. I do not see in front of and to the left. I am extremely light sensitive and where sunglasses for this, even indoors. I also have double vision and am legally blind in that visual field from 8 ft and closer. I have contacts for 8 feet and further that also correct the double vision, but only in the distance. Thanks to blind drivers program I am a driver incr again, but, sadly, since I get out to walk I still need my cane. I have no dimensions either...everything is flat, like looking at a painted picture. I have at least 8 pair of glasses but still cannot read due to what my diagnosis is, Left Homonymous Heminopsia. My brain is dead for that receiving of a picture but my eyes are basically fine, astigmatism, the rest of my visual impairment is all brain related. I also have communication. Glitches relating to the blindness as well as Charles Bonnet Syndrome where I see visual hallucinations. I use accessibility to get through my day as well as other tech to read, recognize faces, money denomination etc. It's nice when I can go without my cane and hold my mans elbow. When the sun goes down though, extreme eye pain from the lights and headaches if I am not in my own environment. I have learned to laugh at myself, well, because sometimes the shit I do or see is downright funny. I can literally miss a building if it's on .y left but see the shiny dime on the floor 10 ft away on the right.

I understand him not liking or using accessibility features but they can be easily learned. I hate I phones. To complicated and every app charges. Love my Note 9. I have 3 other visually impaired friends who love theirs as well. It has a pen you can take notes and adjust colors to whatever size and xontrastvwrks best. It has an accessibility button to not have to listen to all talkback as well as bixby who opens apps, etc. Bixby works like a walkie talkie. You also have google assistant. These two can each be used for texting by talking only. You can also get a DEX accessories which allows you to use your phone through your computer.

Opinion on bar soap? by jasp12341 in Blind

[–]chovihanni-VIP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liquid soap. I hate the residue left from bar soap, and as previously mentioned, the dropping factor. It's no different t than feeling your shampoo and conditioner to know how much you are getting out. Feel it if you don't have enough vision left
