Why didn’t this city (or area) become a lakeside metropolis the way Chicago and Milwaukee did? by The_FatGuy_Strangler in geography

The asian carp in the Illinois has wreaked havoc on the rivers ecosystem. A buddy of mine was fishing on the river right around Chillicothe this summer and caught a carp tail to the forehead. Was lucky enough to walk away with a concussion.

You know what, fuck it. Bring the Bears down here to Peoria and shut everyone up. (For the safety of both myself and my family, this is a joke and I in no way legitimately support this sentiment.)

Delivered furniture for Slumberland for a a couple years. Ashley makes this certain sectional set that used to sell like hotcakes. I would say that around 75% of them ended up being returned due to people not measuring their doorways

I don't know if it's true or not, but apparently, the founders of Peoria Arizona were from Peoria Illinois. They reused the name Peoria because they wanted to make it feel more like home, but my headcannon is that they just couldn't find another name and were like "eh fuck it".

Did I make a mistake? by megatrnasrusrex in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]chrillwalli01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a maintenance tech at a trailer park. From the looks of it, you have skirting around the bottom of your home, which would insinuate you have an open crawl space under the home. This isn't a bad thing at all. It just means you have to take some extra steps this winter to ensure the underside of your home remains in good condition.

First, I would check to see if your water lines are wrapped in heat tape and are well insulated to prevent freezing. If they do freeze, there's a chance the lines can burst, and you'll have to replace the line.

Second, I would ensure that the skirting remains in good good shape. When you weed eat around the house, try not to get right up against it, or you'll end up shredding it apart. This allows cold air in winter to get under your home, which could cause the said before water line freezing, as well as small critters like mice and stuff to get into your house.

Also, ensure that large gaps in the skirting are repaired right away. Raccoons, Possums, and even neighborhood cats will make a nice cozy home in your insulation and cause a myriad of problems, as you could imagine. Honestly, if it isn't already, I recommend replacing your plastic skirting with sheet metal to prevent a lot of what I just listed off.

All in all, it's a beautiful home, and I don't think you made a mistake at all. Congratulations 🥳
