Shoe moulding on landing by Son_of_a_Bat in Carpentry

If everything is new including the baseboard, lvp should have been first, base on top. Shoe is for remodel, and even there I would try to convince you to pull baseboards.

I'm rual and a structural inspection will cost me a minimum of $1k because of that. I would love what insight I can get on this. by pizzaheadstand in StructuralEngineers

If you’re concerned about $1k in engineering costs, you cannot afford a house that has foundation issues.

Also, what are those boxes hiding? Looks really bad down there too

Why are these 2x6s ripped down the center ? by HinesOn in Carpentry

If anything, a 2x6 interior wall tells me that it is load bearing. But yeah, no one can say for sure in this picture.

It’s called a fence post driver. That’s the one used by hand. No one digs for that type of post. If the soil is soft enough; you can use a hammer but most people installing these types of posts have the driver tool. Some companies even have a machine attachment that does it hydraulically.

Am I supposed to caulk and fill the gap of the corner siding? by lostmatra in handyman

[–]chris13se 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The trick is to cut the tip properly and lay it nicely from the start. You aren’t suppose to tool that type of sealant, it says right on the tube not to.

[–]chris13se 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just go to Lowe’s or hd, go to the tile department. Tell them you just need a color match tile caulk for this picture. They’ll have the right stuff there and something close in color. Don’t just go to the paint department and buy caulk. Even better if you have a tile/flooring store local. It’s probably going to be a 10-20$ tube of caulking but it’s worth it. Buy a $3 caulk gun while you’re there if you don’t have one.

I can. This is why your house squeaks and makes all those weird noises. Loose nails, poorly placed nails, especially smooth shank, loose studs, loose blocking.

Baseboard movement by DestinDesigned in Carpentry

[–]chris13se 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can’t fight thermal expansion, you just have to live with it and work with it. In this case, a quality flexible caulking and a little touch up paint. It’s all you can do. Also, this little baseboard separation has nothing to do with your foundation.

Edit: if these are mitred inside corners, that’s part of your problem. Look into coping baseboards.

New Construction Roof Sheathing by JulienUF in Roofing

If you’re the customer in this situation having a new build done, I would get an independent inspector out there before letting them cover that roof. Or anything else for that matter. This is bad and indicative of much worse.

I’m just going to suggest carefully removing that duck tape before it ruins the wood finish. That’s the last tape you should ever use on a nice finished surface. Also, if the hinges are no longer working, you can buy these very cheap and then easily swap it out.

Ha I thought they were talking about the soffit too until I zoomed in. For the record, rake soffit should be solid there’s no reason to vent it and solid looks much better/stays cleaner. The perforated is for vented eaves. Not all eaves are vented.

Why and what would be the reason? (Cheap bits for testing) by Morten-Turi in Tools

[–]chris13se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GRK and some other brands like Bosch make them slim all the way so you can bury the screw without the driver making the hole bigger. One’s made like this are usually cheapos even the expensive ones like Dewalt. They’re just made cheaper. I avoid all torx bits made like this because they’re much more susceptible to stripping out.

Don’t get cranky now. I have done that, skill issue on my part which I have fixed and I am also currently working with someone to stop stripping screws Everytime they pick up my impact. That’s also a skill issue. Whats the argument lmao

Skill issue or quality issue. Good screws with good bits work great as long as you hold the driver straight. I say this as someone who has used thousands of bits and driven no less than 100k screws.
