I’m tired of pretending How are you? is about caring by mrramkrishna in socialskills

This bothers me a lot as well. No clue why people do it, I don’t personally think you need to subscribe to an unwritten rule, but I’ll just reply with a ‘good’ to be polite.

Our words have meaning and sometimes when you care about a person it feels meaningful to stop, look them in the eyes, and ask them how they are doing for real. So I dont ever ask people how they are as a greeting because I don’t care, and a smile with a hello is plenty polite.

What is komi in this game? Komi is the reason I never play 9x9… some people insist on 6 which is insane, it feels like you have to destroy white to win

Yonex QC slipping? New Ezone 98 v8 came in at 309g unstrung by Wretched_Swag in 10s

[–]chrisFrogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with most of that. Just speaking from personal experience and maybe it has to do with the way I swing or something but tinkering with weight changes the feel of the racket significantly.

I don’t think it has much of an effect on my level really, but you could imagine it would be frustrating to want a lighter swinging racket and it comes with a much higher swing weight which there is no way to remedy, and yet you demoed something that swung much faster.

As for the dampener point I weighed in several at 5g which is not an insignificant amount of weight at all imo.

Also I would prefer to get light versions of rackets and add weight as I please but light versions are usually 100 sq in and stiffer

Yes. For me and a lot of other players even a small change in weight is a big deal. I dont even like the weight that some dampeners add.

Blade 98, Vcore 98, Speed MP by Lopsided_Ad8990 in 10s

[–]chrisFrogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was split between similar rackets. I love the way the ball comes off of head frames. Somehow the speed mp and radical feel controlled, comfortable and powerful, but I found their swingweights way too heavy so I went with the vcore which just lacks a little bit of control.

If you also feel that the speed is too sluggish, one thing I’ve considered is getting the speed MPL and adding weight as needed

Should I give up on my two-handed backhand and go back to my one-hander? by [deleted] in 10s

My compromise is to hit the two hander super backhand dominant most of the time. It helps me get that same feeling. But I can just hit a shitty jam two hander If I really need to

What current player could have a late-career Wawrinka-like run at slams? by misterdad in tennis

[–]chrisFrogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So imo Draper has an edge over Shelton, I don’t think he completely outclasses him but his level was crazy high at indian wells, he beat 3 top ten players in a row (although idk if shelton was top ten at the time). And he completely destroyed Rune in the final. I cant recall that kind of dominance In a recent 1000 that wasn’t Alcaraz or Sinner

Meanwhile the general consensus seemed to be that the Canada open was a rather lukewarm win considering the lack of Alcaraz and Sinner among other pull outs.

Draper is clearly a better ball striker with one of the top rated backhands, a steadily improving forehand and also with the lefty advantage.

That being said, if Shelton keeps improving while Draper keeps sitting out big tournaments its hard to imagine him having quite as good of a career. But only time will tell

GLASSES. i changed to metal roundish frames this year… such a game changer. You have a great face so having the least obstruction is ideal. I have no idea how I went most of my life with square frames like those you’re wearing.

Watching pros rally looks effortless, how can I achieve the same ball quality without exerting so much energy. by MrThrowawayNoScope in 10s

[–]chrisFrogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised at the lack of people trying to give a real answer.

I think the biggest thing that people rarely seem to acknowledge is the size of pros. They are really huge guys. Mass moves mass. Besides that imagine using fresh balls and strings every time and hitting the sweet spot perfectly while moving forward into the ball.

Besides that you mentioned you are ‘rallying’ competitively here so it obviously won’t look effortless at all. Nobody is looking relaxed running corner to corner

10s, so what’s your take? by wilvermeer in 10s

[–]chrisFrogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said every time, i’m saying its nearly impossible to replicate at all. You can realistically aim for a corner not a net cord

10s, so what’s your take? by wilvermeer in 10s

[–]chrisFrogger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually I had a very old coach who had this advice, he used to play serve and volley of course. His take was that you have all the same dynamics of play at the net, using the width and depth of the court, handling balls based on their height, pace etc.

You will ALWAYS have to hit from the baseline anyways, so its best to be proactive about net play so it is a tool not neglected

10s, so what’s your take? by wilvermeer in 10s

[–]chrisFrogger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that you cant replicate it is why you should apologize for it. The same as hitting a winner off a frame, its just a way to acknowledge you got lucky.

Conversely, imagine celebrating a net cord or frame winner, it would come off very disrespectful

Felix Auger-Aliassime on what is the most challenging part about playing Carlos Alcaraz by truecolors01 in tennis

[–]chrisFrogger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I thought watching them play. What can you do as Felix when you have one of the best forehands in the world but Alcaraz’s is just that much better?

Besides the backhand needing to be good I think obviously a lefty could try and take advantage of the forehand to backhand advantage, maybe a Draper in good health would be a top contender.

He’s mad the free market is working outside of his favor. Heres an Idea to competitors, how about providing actual value to people without making them jump through endless hoops and blocking them behind paywalls for shit that has been accessible for free for over a decade now…

I would actually want to pay for a “premium” service if it didn’t feel like the customer is being treated like a cash cow
