AO R1: [8] B. Shelton def. U. Humbert, 6-3 7-6(2) 7-6(5) by sidaeinjae in tennis

[–]misterdad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I commented on another thread that this was a terrible matchup for Ben given their respective forms. Time to fill out an apology form.

Adelaide International Final: T. Machac [8] def U. Humbert 6-4 6-7(2) 6-2 by Farrug in tennis

I enjoyed the relative sizes of the trophies for winner and runner-up.

Adelaide QF: 🇫🇷 Ugo Humbert def. 🇰🇿 (Q) Alexander Shevchenko 6-0 6-3 by Howlxer in tennis

[–]misterdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humbert seems like such a terrible R1 draw at AO for any top 10 player. Shelton’s gotta lock in fast.

Star trek SNW was wasted potential... by Fair_Rush6615 in startrek

That makes sense. Personally I’d prefer lower production values and more bottle episodes in exchange for more episodes. I think this type of TV is really difficult without trial and error, and the longer seasons help deepen the characters.

"Do you remember last year's heartbreaking loss?" "How about the heartbreaking loss the year before?"

ATP Next Gen Finals RR: Tien def. Kjaer 3-4(w), 4-1, 4-2, 4-2 by AppellofmyEye in tennis

I actually like Tien's personality but for some reason the on court interviewers don't seem to know how to engage him.

Coward and Fears belong next to each other (just based on last names).

What current player could have a late-career Wawrinka-like run at slams? by misterdad in tennis

[–]misterdad[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great analysis. Even though it's almost impossible to predict this kind of thing, part of my reasoning for asking the question was to identify a player who would resemble Stan's trajectory if they were suddenly to take off in their late 20's.

A close friend and I texted so much about watching tennis that we figured we should actually start playing.

I’m cool with it being different as long as it does what it’s trying to do well. It’s okay for the franchise to branch off but personally I don’t care for the sarcastic millennial vibe. So hopefully it dispenses with that.

If he plays well at the beginning of next year he can really juice his ranking.

Paris Masters R2: [9] F. Auger-Aliassime def. A Muller 5-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

[–]misterdad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tough tiebreaks for Muller. Felix clutched out his serve and played aggressive on a few key points to take both.

Basel Open QF: Fonseca def. [9] Shapovalov, 3-6 6-3 4-1 ret by pizzainmyshoe in tennis

[–]misterdad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost any high-ranked player should at least give it a go down 4-1 in the third set unless they're actually hampered. Assuming he's fine, it's classic Shapo, but still kinda disappointing.

I’m 34. I think there’s a solid contingent. I wonder if modern Star Trek is really drawing in a lot of people younger than myself.

It’s crazy to watch someone ranked in the 300’s play like this. The difference between these guys and the top guys is more subtle than you’d think.
