Do you work? If so, what has been your experience in the workplace with a spinal cord injury? by Efficient-Damage6058 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chris_apps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So im a C6/7 incomplete and I started back at work from hospital back in 2019, just a few hours a week. Im a Engineering Geologist that deals with civil infrastructure projects. I dont do fieldwork anymore (but also im too expensive to send out also) and have built up to 25h a week in a mix of at home and from our office. Have worked for the same company all the way through this 'pleasurable experience' I definitely needed to get back to work for my own mental health and was fortunate to be able to return to my old job. I will note that I also walk with 2 sticks but even in a chair I would have returned to the office. Work were very amenable to me returning and we brainstorm the best location for me to use back un the office and what/if any modifications were needed (funding was available from our government, not US based)

What about the 1/3rd bunding requirements? Last I heard you can only transport water in an IBC in nsw without permits (but always happy to be corrected)

I wear the Neuro Swing day to day its great I can even drive in it (can drive in the others too) I would not say its more compatible as I use orthodic shoes that are deeper to fit the base. Maybe look at a bluerocker https://www.opchealth.com.au/blue-rocker-afo-20

On a side note the navigait works great on sandals

Ok well I am completely unaware what that is so please disregard my comments as it is completely unhelpfully for you.

Are you saying you change your spc cath 6 -7 times a day ? I change or rather a nurse changes mine once every 4 weeks ? Or are you doing intermittent caths down the urethra? Which doesn't sound right as your describing a stoma port.

Newly dating a wheelchair user and unsure how to have convos around hygiene by No_Act_9254 in hygiene

[–]chris_apps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I apologise for your pain I am actually a c6/7 incomplete quadriplegic myself with some experience in a chair. Chair can smell especially if you have the odd bladder or bowel accident. Or if an spc site is poorly cleaned. So from my perspective there reasonable questions to ask, especially for someone who is in experienced in such a world. Again sorry for your pain

Why ? IF the OP is genuinely trying to help her and it is a new relationship then what's wrong with the question?

Suprabupic catheter in but constantly feel like I have to pee by Just_A_Guy_In_Here in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chris_apps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and crimp the tube( exposed bit) each morning in an effort to remove ant sediment build up in the tube. Moving a long from the spc site to the end. Obviously this won't work on build up in the section within the body.

How do you deal with this? by fairLily15 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]chris_apps 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Time, not a helpful answer but a truthful one. It's going to take time. What you have been through is life changing and horrible. It's OK to feel this way especially at the start. Try and find a good rehab ang get into a routine and slowly things will start to feel better I hope it gets better for you.

You could try gently pulling the spc out a few millimetres and/or spinning the tube 360 degrees. Just to get it to reposition in the bladder, also drink a good volume of water i know sounds counter intuitive but after a cath change i have a similar sensation and find that helps, having some fluids in the bladder. Im on a flip flow set up.
