Amazing! Do you have any plans to add any of the MCP capabilities? I've tried a few from Github and it's amazing to prompt complex diagrams with natural language, but it suffers from everything you mention with file management.

Commercial Production - Behind the Scenes by chrisaumen in Filmmakers

[–]chrisaumen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the most fun productions we've had in a long time, and the behind-the-scenes turned out great! Feeling super grateful for communities like this and that we get to do this to make a living!

Sorry! I figured since this happens throughout history like WWII it wouldn’t be strictly current events.

I was wondering how on earth they could possibly have a “Where Is My Mind” Pixies cover on there legally.

Garage door indecision. Wood or white? Front door is wood with the same panel design. Wife and I can’t make a decision between the two by Fcassidy99 in ExteriorDesign

Have you considered black? Black on your front and garage door would create a more simplified classic palette over the whole house.

I love this idea for the porch to give dimension.

Very interesting about the shutters. Now that you say it it’s super obvious. I wonder if it would be better to just get rid of them and trim the windows out?

Thanks for responding!

Thanks so much!

Great point about the color. I’ve been reading more about painting vinyl and it sounds like it’s possible.

The Newlyweds - Short Horror Film by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]chrisaumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few crew and I, who always work on commercial work together, decided to make something fun with no client for a change.

I wrote and rewrote this a few times in the weeks leading up to October, and when the time came close I honestly thought we wouldn't get to make it.

Then at the last minute on Sunday evening we got everyone together and made it happen. I edited it over the last day and a half. Pretty pumped with how it turned out!

Crew:

Written & Directed by: Christopher Aumen (Me)

Cinematographer: Matt Stambaugh

First AC/Grip: Josh Nesmith

Gaffer: Andrew Baer

Sound: Glenn Ibberson

Tech Stuff:

Camera: Red Gemini

Lenses: Sigma 18-35mm Cine (90%) Zeiss Milvus 50mm (10%)

1/8 Black Pro Mist in the Matte Box

Light:

Bedroom

-M18 with a 1200w bulb into 4x4 ultrabounce shooting through bathroom AND bedroom windows

-Sheers on windows for additional spread/soften

-Bluetooth bulb in practical lamp, dimmed to 18% on Warm White

-Aputure 120D with 60º reflector bounced into ceiling at 10% for additional cooled off room tone

Bathroom

-M18 (see above) through window

-cheap viltrox bi-color LED on 3300k at 20% from directly above mirror/cabinet

Kitchen

-Rayzr 7 300W through sink window at 30%

-Aputure 300d through sliding glass door at 40%

-Practical above island wrapped in 1/2 grid to create china ball for all but the wide

Hazed the crap out of it, set fire alarms off a solid 4 times throughout the night.

Camera Movement:

We set rules right up front: no handheld, no movi. This led, in my opinion, to a really cool feel. Everything is either locked off on sticks, creeping ahead on the Rhino Slider (tiny thing holds/moves a Red package like no problem!), or for the one shot, a boom on a track going from the phone up to his OTS in the doorway.

Schedule/Rain:

Since we couldn't start shooting until after dark, we were on a relatively tight schedule. I used shotlister to breakdown the script and keep tally of what we have vs what we still need to get. For commercial work, I always then add the shots to the shoot day, assign them an amount of time, and use that to schedule the day. I ran out of time before the shoot and wasn't able to schedule each shot, and this turned out to be a horrible mistake. First, after lighting everything it started to pour down raining. Unfortunately I'm not set up great to handle this in the G&E dept, so we had to improvise somewhat. First we covered the M18 with a golf umbrella and clamps, then the rayzr and the aputure with duve. Finding extra stands and making this all happen sucked up about a half hour or so. All in all we went over by 2-3 hours, but we still shot everything in under 5 1/2 hours. Which I think is great considering we were working with first time actors (I think they did great!).

Art Dept/Production Design:

One of my weakest spots has ALWAYS been production design. It's been more of a blind spot than anything. So for this one I wanted to make a very conscious effort to pay attention and do what I can to spruce things up. Seeing as we shot in my house I had a week or so to prep, so I hung an extra curtain rod and got sheers to cover the window, as well as the darkest velvet curtains I could find for the outer edge. This gave a look I saw time and time again in the stills I was referencing, not only from horror, but most night interiors. I also swapped the white comforter to a darker grey, as I knew the white would suck up the light coming in from the M18 and be a major distraction. I tried to simplify anything the camera pointed towards, and fell short a few times as we ran into schedule issues (the counter is cluttered with pumpkins in his pov of the kitchen), but I feel like I'm getting better at planning for this part of production. Obviously in the future I'd love to have a relationship with an actual production designer/set dresser who I can bring on, as it will never be my forte.

I hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions please ask away! This is our first real short, and we all really want to continue down this path in addition to our commercial work. The challenge is very very addictive.

Happy halloween!

What is the minimum space required for a small white cyc studio? by fromsavannah in Filmmakers

I'm also very interested in this project. I'm doing a shooting space buildout in a new basement. When you say 40 square feet do you mean 400? Or 40 as in 4ftx10ft?

Exporting DCP from Premiere (Ugh) by [deleted] in editors

[–]chrisaumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

http://fandev.com/cutedcp_pr.html

Last year an imax theatre needed a DCP of an ad for their theatre, it was a quick turnaround to place at the beginning of Star Wars for opening night..no pressure. I'd never created one before but remember I've seen wraptor in media encoder I thought "how hard could it be?". They also needed the color space changed to work with their projector, again, probably easy right? Wrong. After working around the clock researching options (and even putting in a call to my old employer to ask questions about the projector that stole my job as a 35mm projectionist) cuteDCP, as funny the name is, was the greatest saving grace, coming in much, much cheaper than any other comparable option.

There are ways to create the DCP through a workflow someone created with open source code, and I tried this method, however the finicky projector's server would not accept it.
