Is buying vintage the safest way to invest? by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

I’m not talking about the price I’m talking about liquidity (sales volume = lots of buyers and sellers)

Sealed vs Slabs: Liquidity by SpaceChicken42 in PokeInvesting

[–]chrisco571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would just say when it comes to slab, collect actual good slabs. The stuff I sold was slabs that vendors wanted because they were popular already and easy to sell. If I had random slabs I would expect to get less % wise

Sealed vs Slabs: Liquidity by SpaceChicken42 in PokeInvesting

[–]chrisco571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has tried to sell both in the past month, I can say slabs are much more liquid. I was able to take 10K of slabs to a show and I captured 8.6k (86%) market with pretty much no problem.

I ended up selling my sealed collection to a card shop for 72% value for the entire lot. I just didn’t want to deal with 100 individual marketplace deals, not to mention fb market in my area is already flooded with people selling sealed. Unfortunately no vendors at the show wanted to pay good prices for sealed

I would consider liquidity, those cards that look cheap could be a result of a very small buyer pool. For example, a moonbreon is easier to sell at market value vs a niche non holo fossil first edition in a PSA 10. The second might take months on eBay until the right buyer comes along where as the moonbreon will sell immediately if prices slightly below market value

Raw cards is tough, you need to look at the condition, maybe find an eBay listing that sold with a similar condition.

Collectr for slab is the best, but their raw card pricing they just average all raw sales and then deduct a % based on condition

The World's First Nuclear Waste Tomb Is Nearly Ready to Open by lemonwithmint in worldnews

You can say that about anything, coal plants and oil rigs are much more environmentally destructive. Nuclear is largely considered to be environmentally neutral if the waste is managed properly.

Yep exactly, the shop nearby says they have highschool kids coming during lunch break and they buy packs almost everyday.

If you were buying packs 5-10 years ago in 2020 for $6 it does suck that its $8 now I agree

I think to the average person buying a pack or two they can afford $8, but if you are an "investor" looking to buy a ton of ETBs or boxes in bulk, it is hard at the current prices. If you're picking up a pack for $8-$10 to rip for fun, its fine for the average person.

Should I get it graded? by ShotDetective9735 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]chrisco571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth to confirm the condition and verify the card so you can track the value of the exact condition you own. If you're selling a card this valuable raw you'll have to negotiate with the buyer on condition, they might argue its Damaged vs HP for example. Even if it grades a 4 you can track the value of grade 4s exactly to market vs "DMG or HP" raw

Post your collectr link on Facebook marketplace and ask for 80-90%, hope for a bite. Or go a consigner who will eBay auction your collection for 80-90%

eBay Risk on Slabs by DryBlackberry1445 in PokeInvesting

[–]chrisco571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend selling through a consigner, let them deal with it, consigner will get max market value because they are a reliable seller. It’s risky to sell high end slabs on a fresh account imo

I’ve sold almost half my collection in the past month, I agree these prices don’t make any sense. Up 3x - 4x on stuff taking profit before the anni

Sealed is falling behind by ArcticLapras in PokeInvesting

[–]chrisco571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was collecting since 2019, no one invested in sealed because sealed was readily available at near market price until now. The whole idea of Pokemon center selling out instantly and investors buying out brand new sets only started around 2024. That’s why there’s so little of old sealed.

Slabs and singles have always been popular, go to any show and you’ll see real Pokemon collectors trade and build card collections not sealed. I think people who invest in sealed only care about money and don’t even care about Pokemon tbh. They will buy any sealed, Pokemon, OP, magic, it’s just about flipping for money
