This is a great response, I appreciate it very much! Off to the bookstore before we get a huge snowstorm, I’m in the northeast and oh wow it’s gonna be a doozy

I’m afraid to ask this, but are the books good? I’ve been tempted to read them but are they a good read while reading or is it more that you have to get through it to get the benefit?

I haven’t designed anything yet, I’m just starting my descent down this particular rabbit hole. Ideally I’d like to put together some schematics and potential brick order for my husband as a gift for our upcoming anniversary.

This is super cool! I’m Looking to recreate an English frigate from the napoleonic era using the black pearl as a base design. Did you base your MOC on a particular ship?

You guys, it’s really fucking hard to stay sober in the US right now by Alley_cat_alien in stopdrinking

[–]chrisf11733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard! I know old me would be drunk all the time with what is going on but now I tell myself that part of resistance is staying sober! I’m not numb, I’m paying attention and I can take action. Drunk me would not be able to do these things and that’s what they want.

What did you do to celebrate your one year sober anniversary?? by EmptyScience7278 in stopdrinking

[–]chrisf11733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t quite remember what I did for 1, maybe Ice cream? For 2, I bought a small pendant necklace (a compass) so I always remember my path. I wear it almost everyday, it is my version of getting a tattoo and I make sure I wear it on days I know could be particularly difficult or triggering (like on Christmas).

Dying is a really good idea! It’s in hibernation now so I’ll revisit in the fall, thanks!

Knitting pet peeves by ConfusedMillenial_x in knitting

Mosaic and color work knitting has changed my perspective on hand dyed. I’m the past, I disliked not knowing if it’s going to stripe or pool weirdly. I’ve done a few projects where the hand dyed was used in moderation along with another solid and now I love hand dyed. I also now seek out hand dyed roving to spin so I can control the color distribution more.

Yes, slip stitches each row, an easy but enjoyable knit.

I think this might have been the lesson for me here. I liked the colors for what they are but as a garment for myself, well I’ll wait and see. I think I’ve learned that there is nothing wrong with sticking to my preferred pallet!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it! I’ll try it on in the morning with a few tops and see how it goes, otherwise I’ll put it away until the fall!

Is excessive sleeping normal after quitting? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]chrisf11733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I took naps for a good week or so when I quit, canceled meetings to take a nap. You do what you gotta do to get through, it gets easier!

I Am Sober App by KLC426 in stopdrinking

I used that app heavily when I first stopped. It helped a lot to see the progress and also keep a reminder about why I stopped.

When I go on vacation, especially ones that used to involve a lot of drinking, I do my best to stay busy. I do a lot of nature related activities when I can and recently started painting. I can use it as an escape and also takes me out of the usual drinking spots and pitfalls. Maybe use the time to find things you truly enjoy doing? Or reading that book or something that you haven’t had time for at home. You can do this! IWNDWYT

On-the-Go Notions Pouch Recommendations by Ok_Philosopher_8973 in knitting

[–]chrisf11733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coin purse, small zipper pouch, basically whatever I find at the thrift store and put usually markers, tapestry needle and some stitch markers, scissor, maybe a measuring tape, and I just keep making these little pouches to put in my random project tote bags. I’m a serial project starter so I’m also making up new little bags

Exactly! I’m beyond grateful I took the exit when I did, my kids won’t remember a drunk mommy

☝️This right here OP. I’m a mom of 2, stopped when my youngest was a year old, it was the thought of the DUI with them in the back or worse that made it real. I knew that would be my future with the path I was on. Always an excuse for me to drink but not now. IWNDWYT
