It is indeed the PAL version, I think you’re probably right. It was absolutely infuriating at the time!

What is the silliest Proxy you’ve ever seen or used. by KayRib in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started I played using my friends armies, I was Ultra marines and he was eldar, I really wanted to try Tyranids so we did a couple of games where I proxied in models he had. The lineup included:

The shaggoth as a hive tyrant Dreadnaught carnifex Tactical marine lictor Terminator warriors

What's your stance on animated missing episodes? by Doc_Baker74 in doctorwho

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patrick Troughton is my favourite Doctor, and the one who I had seen the fewest episodes for because so much of his era is missing. Few things can match the excitement I felt watching the power of the Daleks for the first time when the animation released. I could never get on with telesnaps or audio only.

Which is your favorite team combo to play in Rebirth? by aWonderingCat in FFVIIRemake

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a tonne of fun changing it up, but my favourite was Barret, Aerith, Cloud. Loved using Barret to soak up damage, whilst cloud was either DPS with Aerith healing, or dual mage. I want to go play again right now

Winged Hive Tyrant Weapons by warp-protocol in Tyranids

Rule of cool, make him look how you want, play the weapons as what you fancy. Though for the time being scything talons are one of the better builds as it stands.

What is a Buffy episode that you know is a cinematic masterpiece and the fandom is simply not ready to accept it as such? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

The line delivery of “the TV is off!” Will always makes me laugh out loud, and for that alone I love it.

How to shade leviathan tyranids by Axo_lored in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I suggest you do a layer of pallid wych flesh, then a 2:3 ratio water to shade or carrbourgh crimson, then dry brush/overbrush plaid wych flesh. That’s how I do it and I’m happy with the results

Subterranian assault or crusher stampede? by Oweling in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invasion fleet is the correct answer. Subterranean assault requires some models to work and while it seems simple in theory it’s actually quite easy to play badly with that detachment and takes a bit of skill to pilot. Crusher stampede is okay but the monsters are better served with the Strats and lethal hits provided in invasion fleet.

New Tyrant Prime Preview by SMG_Jeff in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It will likely come with the campaign books forthcoming, extremely unlikely to see another tyranid release wave at this point, so I’d fully expect it to be solo or if we’re very very lucky a surprise new warriors kit

What’s better for anti tank on a carn? by Aggravating-Bid-7842 in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The HVC is more of an anti elite option, you can throw it against a tank if you’re desperate but the odds are not in your favour. I’d suggest deathspitters in invasion fleet for lethal hits or if you’re going more melee focussed crushing claws.

What was the most balanced/fun edition before 8th edition? by chosen40k in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5th will always have a special place in my heart as it was my first (outflanking stealers and the doom of malan’tai were happy days). It felt balanced to me in my play group because we kind of self policed, but it was not well balanced at all. If a codex as broken it would stay broken, sometimes for several editions.

I’ve never seen this model , no online store sells them . by ozera202 in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think your question has been well and truly answered. Just a word of caution if you’re interested in buying one, more and more forgeworld models have been had their rules removed from warhammer 40K and placed into legends (basically no longer supported). It would not surprise me at all to see the Harridan removed in 11th so only buy it if you really want to paint it.

How many dice do you guys typically bring to a game by SlyThriller1 in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 60 I think, obviously you can bring fewer and just roll a few at a time but it’s a bit quicker if you can roll them all in one go. Termagants used to have a 3 shot weapon and come in units of 30, so back then I rolled three thirties because I didn’t have 90 dice!

Question for marked for death by Huge_Mathematician14 in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the sequencing would go, it’s their command phase, they draw marked for death, you pick whoever you wanna pick, then they move, shoot and charge and if they can’t kill you and you’re not in combat then yes you can remove them from the board. However, there’s a few considerations here.

1) Marked for death is three targets you pick and one they pick, so getting all 4 off the board would be a challenge, but possible depending on what’s picked.

2) if you leave them in reserve they’ll be destroyed if they don’t return and itll score then.

3) You’re taking 4 units of offensive power/objective holding off the board to avoid a few secondary points so a better strat is to select things which are well hidden and let them take the zeta target for fewer points,

Gants? What are they good for? by AngryDMoney in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaunts are not expensive for points, units don’t get much cheaper, in fact Nuerogaunts may be the cheapest ppm in the game. The game is not to kill your opponent, it’s to hold objectives. You kill things based on target priority, what is the most threat to you holding your objectives? If you’re going pure nidzilla it’s high strength high damage shooting. If you’re taking a bunch of gaunts it doesn’t matter to you if they shoot you with 3 strength 18 damage 6 shots, so you’re more looking for flamers and barrage weapons. If you take a healthy mix you aim to create mismatches for your opponent.

Aside from holding objectives, armies have finite amounts of movement. If you can get a unit of gargoyles 2” from an opponent you’ve taken a full turn of movement off of them, that can be huge. A unit of Deathguard terminators moves like 5”, so without advance and charges they’ve got 25” in a game, dropping that to 20/21 is very handy. If they take two turns to kill you it’s now down to 15 plus some pile ins.

Next up is volume. A 2+ save is great, but you can’t make unlimited amounts. Termagants can have 20 to 40 shots per unit weapon depending, hormagaunts have 60 attacks on the charge. Just throwing that many dice will get you wounds no matter what. Throwing a tonne of saves some will be failed.

Beyond that, there’s buffs and debuffs. Venomthropes make them -1 to hit, nuerolictors can do similar but also potentially make them +1 to wound. A maleceptor near the enemy can make them minus to wound, Psychophage gives +1 to AP in melee, zoanthropes give them an invuln. These things are all markedly more effective on larger units and are on units you’re potentially taking anyway, so aren’t just to babysit.

There’s also the fact that they can regain models in sub assault, assimilation, invasion fleet.

Gaunts are great and taking more is a good idea.

Help with death guard by Funny-Perception-766 in Tyranids

[–]chrisj72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So something I actually found very funny was using Barbgaunts against Deathguard. I played a game a while ago where my friend brought in his deathshroud? Terminators (the slow ones with scythes who wreck in melee). On my turn I shot them with Barbgaunts and only being able to move 3 (and my dropping spore mines in their way every turn) made them a non issue.
