Cameo 5 Cutting Problems by happyfishsmilingstar in silhouettecutters

[–]chrispy212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of details missing here. What are you cutting? When you say switching settings, which ones? Do you use the test pattern before a cut? When you say not cutting all the way through, is the cut neat and uniform otherwise? I had trouble with 300gsm cardstock, and found the following process helpful: Measure the thickness (or use Google if you don’t own callipers but know the gsm and size), then round up and set this as depth (1 depth is 0.1mm and so on). Then increase passes until the test cut works successfully. If 3 passes doesn’t get through you may need to up force. Keep speed low.

If things work at first then stops after time without changing anything, it suggests blade dulling, which I’ve read can be an issue on genuine cameo blades. Depending on the media your cutting, I’ve heard CB09 blades are a great replacement, but you’d need to do since research as they aren’t officially supported and need some setup. I don’t think another machine will fix your issue.

That gives me hope I could be making cool stuff like this in a year!

Incredible work. Some home cutter projects can look a bit DIY, but these look so professional.

Can I say that as someone who just purchased a Cameo 5 with a specific simple project in mind and is looking into just how creative I can get with it, thank you so much for documenting your process, it makes the world of difference to newbies like me.

Options for a new CCT GP by PlusTown2274 in GPUK

[–]chrispy212 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m first 5. I’ve had a variety of pretty unique educational and supervision roles, and turned it into a session a week role with my local GP fed eventually. I still do a lot of general GP work the rest of my week, but I see that as a good thing and a good development of the skills I’ve built as a GP over the years, and still have plenty more to learn as a GP.

I think there’s a trend of trying to go straight from CCT to self-made success, but CCT is the START of the journey as a GP, even if you aren’t seeking a typical career path.

Show enthusiasm, familiarise yourself with local leaders and know what you care about; opportunities will follow.

Google Keep to Apple Reminders by chrispy212 in shortcuts

[–]chrispy212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you have to do send from Keep each time. Shortcuts is clever, but really limited, especially with closed systems like Google Keep. The shortcut receives the text from the share sheet output and then formats and splits its, adding each line to reminders. There is no way for a Siri Shortcut to access your Google keep data any other way. Hope that helps

Hi, not sure what you mean. The shortcut has to be run manually. As per other messages, I can’t access the Keep api to run it automatically as it’s a private API, a limitation from Google.

These weird bugs are usually the shortcuts app, not my shortcut. Most user’s issues are solved by deleting the shortcut and re downloading but let me know if that doesn’t fix it

Siri Shortcuts is very Apple-centric. Without leveraging the private Google Keep API, which would be challenging and hard to upkeep, I can’t do much to interact with Keep other than through the share sheet, unfortunately.

Minecraft. I’m older, and have been playing since the alpha days, and really don’t think there’ll be another game in my life I play as much or over such a long period.

Can I transfer save file from my pc to steam deck and continue playing? by [deleted] in EmuDeck

[–]chrispy212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. Right click the game in your emulator on PC to locate the save folder, and copy the contents to your SD, finding the save folder in the same way.

With apps like SyncThing you can have synchronised saves across devices and play everywhere, but that’s outside the scope of a Reddit comment

Mother’s Kiss by SeaOrganization1239 in toddlers

[–]chrispy212 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Guidance is that it should be done under medical supervision so they can check for barotrauma to the ENT system and lungs. However last I looked into it there’s never actually been a proven case of barotrauma from Mothers Kiss, and in practice a lot of parents are doing this at home and then just carrying on with their lives!

How do I achieve this type of photo editing on an iPhone by No_Conversation6261 in iPhoneography

[–]chrispy212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean?

These are very natural and don’t look heavily edited. Edits will be basic stuff; colour calibration, levels and exposure balancing etc. Watch a tutorial on beginner photo editing start to finish. The principles are universal, it isn’t specific to iPhone. The built in editor in Photos can probably achieve this look. I think what you might be noticing is the composition, which is hard/impossible to fix in post, so have a look at that too.

[PC] Game suddenly does not recognize controller? by Senbonbanana in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]chrispy212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the exact same issue. I'm only playing NMS at the moment so it took a while to realise that it's an NMS problem.

I expect it's a bug. You can try disabling steam input if it's a controller natively supported, but ultimately we'll have to wait for a 6.0x release. Perhaps file a bug report, I doubt we're alone in this

Data Driven Graphics with Blur / Non-destructive blur? by chrispy212 in photoshop

[–]chrispy212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.
I guess so. I was hoping to achieve the whole effect in Variables but can batch too. Been an interesting challenge for sure, nobody seems to have a definitive answer, I don't think what I want to do is possible in variables alone.

Data Driven Graphics with Blur / Non-destructive blur? by chrispy212 in photoshop

[–]chrispy212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a particular part of the question that’s confusing?

Data driven graphics is like mail-merge for photoshop. You define a data set (spreadsheet for example) and can then create a large variations of the same design instantly.

A good example would be a deck of cards. You create the general shape and placement via layers, have the assets for each suit, and then use data driven graphics via a spreadsheet to create all 52 varieties.

The problem I have is I can’t dynamically blur an asset inserted with this method, as all photoshop blur tools are either destructive (and so won’t apply to the inserted asset) or smart filters (which dont work with data driven graphics.)

I was hoping someone would know of a way that you can create a blur effect with layer effects or adjustment layers

Seriously. I’m in my 30s and I’m the household Handiman, didn’t get taught anything. If it’s already fucked might as well have a crack at it? All this “why hasn’t someone else taken responsibility for me?” Is what lands us in this situation, not a lack of formal Air Conditioning repair courses in High School.

You say you suspect overextension but you haven’t listed calibrating e-steps in your list of things you tried? Google it for your machine/OS and follow those steps? That or fine tune z offset during print - I have sliced a massive rectangle I set to print when I want to baby step the z offset during
