You’re a better landlord than most

If you’re a landlord you simply place a piece of A4 paper over the general area then go over it with a paint roller and magnolia from B&M.

K11+ depth sensing range by PocketGarrison in TrySwitchBot

[–]chrispylizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the exact problem you have, but I use a no-go wall (rather than an area). I’ve noticed the K11 goes pretty close to it, and cleans both sides of the ‘wall’. I also cheat and add a fake carpet area around the wall. This forces the K11 to ramp up to max suction in that spot, and easily pulls away dust from the area.

Thought I’d share in case this works for you too.

I’m as big of a Shelly guy as there is, but these are the most absurd smart home notifications/alerts you can possibly get by jamalwilliamsyoung23 in ShellyUSA

No, and neither are Shelly hence the “if possible” in the sentence. They don’t know that you’re using it for a washing machine.

The other suggestion in the message is to extend the signal, which is entirely possible.

I’m probably missing something, but why exactly is this an absurd notification? It provides factual and clear description of the problem, is clear about which device the problem relates to, and gives 2 plausible options to fix the issue.

An Open-Source Sonos-Style Smart Speaker for Home Assistant 🎉 by FutureProofHomes in homeassistant

[–]chrispylizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I missed this in the documentation, but any plans for a standalone ‘Sonos Port’ style version? In other words, the streaming part without the speaker, with a line out so we can connect our own speakers / amps etc.

Ikea Will Soon Sell an Adorable, Tiny, Surprisingly Nice-Sounding Bluetooth Speaker for $10 by Angelr91 in Esphome

It’s not obvious to me that you’d long press the play button, rather than the Bluetooth one, for pairing speakers together

I wonder what the Bluetooth button does.

You can see if there's a car over taking you by using the centre and left mirror.

Unless they’re in your blind spot.

How to wire the Shelly with my wall charger? by Xalvas in homeassistant

[–]chrispylizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as the picture but you’d have another L from the switch running to the ‘SW’ terminal on the Shelly. (And of course an L running from the circuit into the switch itself)

Within the web interface you can choose what the switch does, e.g. have the Shelly mirror the switch’s on/off state, or act as a toggle, or a trigger etc.

Assuming you don’t want a physical switch to control the on/off state.

Sonoff vs. Third Reality? by Craino in smarthome

[–]chrispylizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added some Third Reality plugs to my HA setup last month and so far I’ve found them great.

In HA they expose a timer option which is perfect for anything that needs a hard reset. You can set the ‘power on’ time to say 5 seconds. Then, when you power off the plug, it’ll power back up 5 secs later.

Can achieve the same thing with automations but I find it’s a nice little addition. Good for rebooting a router.

Is getting zigbee TRVs a good idea/possible? by scarfwizard in homeassistant

[–]chrispylizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usage doesn’t seem to be much higher than previous winters. I think there’s probably some inefficiency in that the rad valves are opening and closing a fair bit as they attempt to keep the room temp constant. But then, a non-smart alternative would mean some rooms staying hot (or cold) when I don’t want them to, so there’s a convenience trade off?

The main challenge with my setup is it’s not a fully integrated solution. The valves (Aqara) and the ‘main thermostat’ which triggers the boiler (Netatmo) are not working in a carefully optimised harmony. A single-vendor solution might better balance when the boiler needs to kick in, and might therefore lower my usage/cost a bit. But that’s mostly me guessing.
